Sorry if its been posted before. My search showed up nothing.

I'm looking for the cheapest place to play day time around mgm and the cheapest places at night downtown.

Really just care about table minimums. Want to play with 100-200 and have it last a while.

Craps always looked fun but I was too intimidated to play. Been reading up on the rules and am ready to give it a try.

Most casinos (I know of at least NYNY and Monte Carlo, though I imagine Excalibur, Luxor, and MGM will have the same) have a craps lesson around 11 AM for an hour and immediately open a $5 table right after. Casino Royale also offers $3 craps, if you're willing to go that far.

Around MGM, I'd say Excal, Luxor, or Hooters for $5 craps.
Downtown, at Night, a LOT of places will have $5 craps.
Any cheaper and you'll have to go to SamsTown for $3 craps, or Jokers Wild for $1 (or $2) craps.
I'd say for cheapest and best experience (odds included) SamsTown will be your best bet...but like you said...around MGM and downtown...

Excalibur is the cheapest near MGM. Usually $5 but they sometimes jack it $10 if things get busy. You can $5 elsewhere at times but Excalibur is your best bet if it's Saturday night and you want to get your fix.

Downtown you can usually find $5 anywhere except Golden Nugget but other places can and will raise limits under the right circumstances. I've never not been able to find a $5 game downtown though.

Fremont and El Cortez often have $3 games. They are as low as you can go downtown.

You don't say whether you'll be there on weeknights or a weekend but that matters. Hard to find $5 craps on the strip on the weekends. Casino Royale of course always has $3 craps but only one table. Excal is probably your best bet close to MGM. Lux sometimes but I was surprised to find $10 only tables there during the week the last time I was at that casino (April).

I played in Excalibur a few weeks ago, $5.

Harrah's had a couple of $5 tables but they stayed packed, I ended up at a $10 table near the piano bar.

Casino Royale does have $3 craps but they are down to one table and the table was packed on the Thursday I went at midnight.

Downtown, Fremont always has a $3 table. Probably El Cortez too.

I do remember back in the day (20+) years ago that the Fremont and some other DT casinos would have .25 cents and $1 craps. The type of people playing it though fit the picture perfectly. Talking about going nowhere fast. Once you get the hang of it and get ahead do not be afraid of risking your profit by increasing your odds bet. Another pretty safe bet (besides pass line) will be to place the 6 and/or the 8. If you win on those numbers and are ahead you could also press them once in a while . Just remember that if you bet small you will win small.

Weekends: Strip: Excalibur will have at least one $5 table during the day.
Harrahs craps table by the Piano bar usually is $5 all the time.
Planet Hollywood may have one early a.m.

Slightly off the Strip, Palms and Hard Rock will have $5 tables during part of the day.

A good way to learn and ease your way in would be to play the electronic Shoot to Win games. They are at most strip casinos.

The Quad has at least two $5 tables day/night weekday/weekend. Its a fun place to play craps and its where I spent my time learning the game!

If I may, please let me expand on the OP's initial question by asking, where is the best place for a new player? Is one particular casino going to be more friendly to the newbie craps player than another? Not talking about dealers (but them as well, I guess) but also the other surrounding players?

I realize no one can predict human behavior at any point in time, but thinking maybe in general, one place may tend to cater to rookies more than another

I've seen newbies treated great and poorly at the same casinos. It just depends on the crew and how busy the table is. Most craps crews are happy to help newbies if the table is uncrowded. It gives them something to do. Find an empty or almost empty table, tell them you're new and if for some reason they won't help you out give your business to someone else. Definitely find a place that has craps lessons (usually weekday mornings), great way to learn.

A friendly and competent crew makes a big difference in my enjoyment. I've played a long time and know what I'm doing but it's still easy to foget something. I like when a dealer will learn your game and remind you if you forget to say take odds on your come bet or forget to place a number you usually place, stuff like that.
