Charge to the room or use the TR Visa card?

Does it matter - one way or the other - if you charge to your room, and ultimately check out and settle using the TR Visa, or if you use the TR Visa incrementally (e.g. pay for cocktails at the bars, dinners at restaurants, snacks at shops, etc.) as incurred?

Is there any sort of increased reward either way - given that you have to spend $X/year to maintain current status?

    Thanks in advance.

If it's all going to the card either way, just charge to your room for convenience of having one bill at the end. I can't recall any reason why you'd not do it that way.

Plus if you get back-end comps you may get some charges removed

Ditto that. If you think there's a remote chance of getting a back-end comp AND don't care about carrying RCs forward, then charge to your room.

The reason that I made the comment about RCs is that it is standard policy at CET to always zero out your RC balance before giving back-end comps.

Always charge everything to your room. It's the best way to ensure you get full credit for purchases and the best shot for back-end comps.

1 - Always charge to your room. No benefit to use your card earier than later.

2 - I get why some people have the TR card (level). But, I have 30+ cards, and this is not one of them. Get a card that offers your 25,000 or more points. Get a card with cash back. do not be restricted to TR points.

I use reward credits in restaurants because tax is not charged if you use points. Now I'm not positive about this but if you charge say your restaurant bill to your room, you will be charged tax right then, and aren't you taxed on the total hotel bill when you check out?

You may be right on the Reward Credits. That is different than using a TR Visa that the OP mentioned.
