It looks like the days of bars and restaurants having to charge LET on the tab while a band is playing are over -- I haven't yet read the bill itself, but based on the article, it looks like the tax is going to be simplified to just be 9% of the admission fee. That means that free venues will no longer need to charge, and a flat percentage will be added to ticket prices. On the other hand, outdoor events like EDC and Burning Man are no longer exempt, which will probably more than offset the taxes they had been collecting from bars and restaurants. As someone who doesn't go to a lot of concerts, and does spend a lot of time at bars with cover bands, I view this as a pretty good thing overall (plus, this was a system that was too discretionary and badly in need of simplification).

Doesn't affect me much either way, except it will save me 1%. I like the simplification as well.

I fucking hate this tax. Table min at mosts club have been applied this tax. Imagine getting a main floor table at XS or hak with a well known dj. Table min is damn approximate 10k. After all the grat, tax, live tax, you are paying an near extra 40% tax not including host, bouncer, etc fees. Fuck that. Take edc elsewhere. Fuck this tax.
