Now, I've seen the 20 dollar trick done on numerous occasions years ago when I used to frequent vegas, but was wondering if it still worked or if the casinos have been tightening down on that practice.

I have a luxury suite booked next weekend at the Palazzo with a buddy of mine, but after we booked the rooms we got to thinking that we don't want to share a king bed together and neither of us wants the sofa bed. Now, I have looked through all the google threads on this topic, and it seems that all the reviews of the positive 20 dollar tricks all are from 2011 or earlier. The old threads indicate that I have a pretty high percentage of being able to upgrade to the Bella suites with the 2 queen beds.

Any expertise on the matter from visitors who have stayed at the Palazzo recently?

first off, understand that most of the "suites" at V/P are large rooms, and not a suite as most understand it - meaning walls between rooms.

If I was going with a buddy, I would book the two queens right up front. Not interested in a sausage fest myself.

Also assume you have read this boards and know that v/p appears to not love gamblers as much as some other casinos.

It all depends on what day of the week and what time of the day you are arriving, if you are arriving on a Friday night, forget about the $20 trick, the best it will get you is a high floor facing the strip. When you ask, you need to be specific let the clerk know what you want and also be nice.

    Ningtong, thx for the response.

We will be arriving this coming Friday probably around 2pm or so. Think its worth a shot or does being Friday really hamper my chances of success?

I don't realy care about the view at all, just would like the 2 queen bed suites instead of the king.

Can't say for sure, but it's definitely worth a shot. Ask them if there is a complimentary upgrade for the 2 beds suite, also make up a story saying it is your friend's first time in Vegas won't hurt either.

Have two previous stays at The Palazzo (Oct '10 and Sep '11) with another coming up this August. First trip I was booked in The Venetian through Priceline, the second was booked through Priceline at The Palazzo. Both trips were 4 nights with the first checking in on a Friday and the second on a Thursday. Tried the $20 trick both times. Was really successful the first time and got shot down on the second trip. In my experiences here and elsewhere the $20 trick seems to work better on younger males. The first time I tried I actually checked in at the registration desk at the Venezia tower. Male clerk maybe 25-30 years old. Right away he went to work when he saw the $20 between my cards. We were booked for a one bed no view and we got a bella on the 43rd floor of the Palazzo with a strip view. He waived the resort fees, gave us late check out, sent up a free fridge (the one in the room comes prestocked) and gave us free passes to Tao and LAVO. Best $20 I ever spent in Vegas. The second trip I checked in at the main registration desk in The Palazzo with a younger girl maybe 20-25. Immediately she slid the $20 back and said she could not accept it. Right away I knew I was done. She wanted another $30 a night for a bella and another $30 for strip view. I declined and got probably the best one bed non strip view that was available on the 41st floor facing Wynn and the golf course. This time around I am going to scope out the clerks first and try and get a younger guy who is looking to play ball. There are three non VIP registration desks at V/P. Between the three I should find someone who is willing. Good luck and report back on this thread how you made out, might help me next month.
