Makes sense. Few Statesiders could pronounce it! :)

Does anybody go there anymore? I haven't been there in decades.

I was there Monday and the casino was empty. 1 of the 8 tables was open and only a couple of people at the machines. I thought about spending some of my comp dollars but didn't. I hope my $163 balance will be around under the new system since I won't be back until April.

That Westin changed names to Westin Las Vegas from Westin Causuarina over a year ago. No idea why it took them so long to change the name of the casino.

Used to go there 5+ years ago as a nice break from the strip debris. Once they decimated the VP schedules we quit the place.

It sure was called Maxims, used to have bright blue neon sign if I remember correctly? and a kind of SE asian theme. I was never in it as Maxim, but had one visit as the Westin, nothing there that would make me walk off the strip to go there again. Very quiet casino and kind of corporate feel to the hotel.

I have a silver strike from the old Maxim, they used to share their pool with Bourbon Street (man what a dump Bourbon Street was). That location just has never made sense to me. I stopped by in August and it still suffers from what I think is an identity crisis. They don't know if they want to be a Weston or a casino hotel.

The place is not very nice. I stayed there on a couple of business trips when I wanted to give the impression that I was not staying at a luxury casino resort. I wasn't. The casino is completely dead. The rooms are below average for a Westin. However, there was a happy hour for Starwood platinum members with free beer and wine which was nice.

I love how big businesses think. They are sitting around the board room and cant for the life of them figure out why their casino sucks.

Then they hit on it, its the name!! Nothing to do with the casino being boring or hard to get to, it has to be the name.

Then they decide to invest thousands of dollars into renaming it like this magically will increase revenues.

Same people will be finger pointing and wracking their brain a year from now when they realize that the new name for some reason did not bring in the desired results. It must be the employees then, yeah thats what is is, the employees are somehow scaring off the customers. get rid of them and then we will be rolling in money.

better yet, get rid of them and hire all new cheaper ones, thats obviously the fix for this.

I honestly think this is how some companies are run. You know we have all seen it time and time again.

i like the idea that the name change is part of an overall strategy to enhance the player experience. yeah, that's what has been holding me back.

not sure why expanding the sports book is going to drive business to the Max, but do'hkay!

flight attendants from United were staying there two years ago. (they may still, i don't know, my friend is no longer a FA.) her room was pretty nice, i thought, and the comped drinks during the happy hour for guests was a nice bonus. free beer for me.

i vaguely remember setting foot inside the property back in 1997 for Mac King's magic show. it seemed like a lively place that had a lot going. it must have been broke, good thing they've fixed it over the past 16+ years.

Why would the casino need a different name from the hotel?

I don't recall that any other hotels in Vegas have "named" their casino...the Flamingo Hotel's casino is the Flamingo Hotel casino..blah blah blah..

Funny you should mention the Flamingo... they have the Margaritaville Casino as a section of their bigger casino: http://www.margaritavillelasvegas.com/casino.html

Also, Ellis Island is just a casino; the nearby hotel is a Super 8.

    Marketing.

The Weston has a very marketable name. At the same time they want to attract a Las Vegas crowd. It makes sense.

I am staying there my next trip. I always have a good experience at Sheraton/Westin hotels.
