I see a few Catholic churches on Google maps but would like to know if anyone has been to any of them. How early do you have to get there before mass begins? Is it difficult to get a cab once it lets out? Since I will be in town on a Sunday I figure I will either be giving thanks or praying for a change of luck! Thanks in advance for any info.

There is Guardian Angel Cathedral just south of Convention Center Drive on cathedral drive which has a vigil mass on sat and sunday masses. Fifteen minutes before mass time should be fine. I'm not sure about taxis since I usually take a bus there and walk over. There are bus stops on both sides just a few minutes walk from the Strip,(Circus Circus, Riviera, Cathedral or Convention Center Drive). My names may be off a bit. There is also another church around the corner from Tropicana Hotel a block south of Tropicana going east, if you are on the south end of the strip. You can probably google a list and directions.

I have never had a problem getting a seat at the Guardian Angle if you arrive 10 minutes before Mass. Afterwards you can get a cab back to your hotel, by going across the street (Desert Inn Road) to the Encore. You can see the Encore from the steps of the church about 1 1/2 blocks away. Slightly south and west of the church.

Have attended Saturday and Sunday masses at both of the previously mentioned churches and have never had a problem getting a seat. The church behind the Tropicana is the larger of the two. As mentioned before, Guardian Angel is located next to the Encore so you can catch a cab there. If you go to the church behind the Tropicana, you can cross the strip to the Luxor or go to the Tropicana to get a cab. Both churches have mass times listed in the Yellow Pages or you can call and they have a recording. One of them has an earlier Sat. mass (4:00 p.m. I think). Both are very nice churches with very friendly people.

I LOVE the Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer (near Tropicana)! You can arrive at the time mass is scheduled to start-no need to arrive early. It's funny when you see casino chips in the collection basket!

And they have special monks that count the chips. They are called chip monks.

Here is a site for Guardian Angel:

I believe the 11 A.M. mass on Sunday has the choir and orchestra. They are very good.

    The shrine site is here:

The shrine was built for tourists. It is not a parish. The priest explained this when we were at Mass and I found it quite interesting.

I have been to Guardian Angel Cathedral many times over the years. There are usually plenty of seats unless it is Christmas or Easter.

The first vigil Mass is Saturday at 2:30pm. There are 2 more at 4pm and 5:30pm. The 2:30 Mass is the one we usually attend. We fly in from the east coast early on a Saturday, check in and head to Mass and we're done for the week.

If you go, take a few extra minutes to look around, the stained glass and mosaics are marvelous. Also it should be noted that the cantors, choir and musicians are mostly professionals who work in the various hotels and clubs aroun town.

You can get a cabbies card and call them to pick you up.

They would rather have a sure fare then sit in line waiting for one.
