I was reading an old thread the other day and it got me to thinking about how many hotels in LV possibly have a this type of area in their hotel. I am sure when slow season comes around alot of the hotels shut down floors and such but I wonder which ones specifically have areas they just dont keep up with possibly because they just dont have the money or amount of guests to warrant the attention to it. I am sure it is more prevalent maybe downtown or on the mid strip than toward the south end.

I do remember reading a trip report once that was never finished about Circus Circus and Jay Sarnos penthouse. The OP had said that he had finally found out from a manager at the hotel where exactly the PH was but it had been shuttered years ago and was in bad shape. Makes me wonder what other places have this type of issue, I would LOVE to see that old PH and see what shape it is in today! The only other one off hand that comes to mind is the old Binions hotel, not the Mint side. ALthough the Mint side is closed as well, the Binions side hasnt been used in quite awhile.

As quiet as it was kept, a lot of hotels shut down floors during the downturn. It looked like even though they grand opened Aria, they were holding back floors to inflate the occupancy rate. It seems to me that CP was trying to avoid renting the old Centurion Tower when it could. One that may be holding rooms back is Cosmo. They were supposed to be slowly ramping up their inventory and I don't know if they ever went to renting them all out.

Seems like it would be easiest for Ceasars to do something like this as they have separate towers. Dont know if it was part of the plan when building, but would work out!

not sure about hotel rooms/floors, but they definitely have excess space at times. For example, the space that used to be Rum Jungle and will soon be Light at Mandalay Bay was sealed off and hidden for years.

Las Vegas Club downtown has supposedly only been using the north tower during their weekends-only operating scheme, at least part of the time. Sahara shut down one tower the year before their full closure, I believe. Flamingo had a massive area just beyond the buffet on the north side of the property that looked like a former check-in desk. It was walled off in December when I was there, but had sat, seemingly unused, for years.

I remember walking out that way at the flamingo and noticing that old check in area a few years ago. It seemed like an awful waste of space to me. I am guessing older places like Caesars, Riv, old Sahara, maybe even Flamingo have places and maybe even floors in their towers they never use anymore.

I've been able to squeeze a view of the Harmon lobby through the spaces in the doors. Not enough to get a proper photo, but definitely enough to get the feel. Creepy.

Ya thats kind of what I thought when I was looking over there from cosmo on the walkway. I could see some floors had piles of junk stacked up and it looked like it was filthy in there.

I am sure everything is covered in concrete dust

    Unused space

The one area I always think of that isn't used anymore is the old Star Trek area where Quarks was at the LVH. We used to go there every trip and the space casino next door was always active. Now when you walk by there, it's boarded up and the casino has been decimated down to a few machines. Maybe now that the economy is turning, someone will put something new in that area.

I think that area of the Flamingo was used to check in conventions and large groups that would come in by bus and shuttle. You know, find your badge and step to the counter, please.

They closed it because revenues had dropped in the final years. Yet, no revenue is the superior option? Much like Disney cancelling the Narnia series after the second one "only made 100 million profit". And then they made John Carter :nono:

I understand closing it, but to have it sit vacant for so many years doesn't make sense. They could have at least re-themed the restaurant and kept some life in that area. It's sad to walk through there.
