Who has stayed at the Casino Royale? I was surprised by the number of good reviews that I have read about the casino. I know the casino is dingy and cheap, but that seems to be what people like about the place.
But, I cannot get too much info on the rooms or the hotel itself. What's the deal on the hotel? Any ideas?

I stayed there about 15 years ago when it used to be a Travelodge. It was fine if you are not looking for a luxurious stay.

I saw a room there about 10 years ago and they were just fine. I heard they have renovated since. It's all about reasonable expectations. Best .25 vp on the strip.

I have never stayed in teh rooms but have been through the casino a number of times, I think there are a few rooms almost literally in the casino. The hallway goes from the casino...immediately there are rooms. So long as you are not on the first floor you should be fine.

The impression I've always gotten is that the hotel only exists because they aren't allowed to operate a casino without it, and that's how they treat it. Not many rooms, and not very nice.

But people love the casino because its tough to find a low-roller joint in that location.

I'll fess up. I stayed there a couple years ago. Honestly, it's not that bad. Like another poster stated, its all in your expectations. Expect a Travellodge, a decent, clean Travellodge. Check-in and the players club use the same lines, didn't take too long mid-week, might be a wait on the weekend. It's a bit of a pain getting to rooms because you need security access to the hallways (though this also keeps the riff raff that do not have a room from camping out there). I think they can print boarding passes, but that's about it for amenities. The location is fantastic if you want to be on the strip, prices are low, and the casino is a lot of fun, in a dive bar sort of way. I would consider it again if it were cheaper than Imperial Palace/Quad and I wanted to be on the strip.

The posters above are all on the money.

I stayed there about 10 years ago for one night. Some buddies and I left for a bachelor party a night earlier than the rest of our group, so we decided to stay at Casino Royale for that first night and then move to MGM Grand for the rest of the weekened after the rest of the group arrived.

The location is fantastic, and it takes no time to get from your room to the strip. The room itself is basic Comfort Inn type accomodations. We were on the second floor (there may only be two floors?), and the only elevator was out of service, so be prepared if you aren't able to climb stairs. There is actually a pool, but it is tiny.

Truth be told, we had a great time that night at the CR. We arrived late and intended on just walking downt the strip for an hour or so and then heading to bed to rest up for the big bachelor party weekend. Well, we did arrive back at the CR after walking around for about an hour, but we decided we would play $3 craps for "just a few minutes." We ended up going to bed several hours and beers later; it was one of the most fun craps sessions I've ever had!

We were all hurting the next morning when we woke up and had to change hotels. We were young and cheap (and stupid!) and decided it would be better to walk from CR to MGM Grand with our luggage, rather than take a cab. Ugh, that was a rough walk!

Not sure about his hotel, but most hotels do not have a "typical rate". They can double and triple on some days vs others.

I do notice on their website that the do not show rates.

    Never stayed there.

    Never won there.

    Used the Tix4tnite there.

Best thing I can say about CR is their ATM machine only has a 1.00 fee vs. the normal 6.00 at most machines.

I did notice that their website does not allow you check rates, you have to call a phone number. I have also had a hard time finding rates at Hotels.com , Travelocity, and Expedia. The hotel is not even listed on some travel websites. I should not have to jump through a bunch of hoops to find room rates. I wanted to see rates at other sites and compare and not have call the hotel directly. This alone is enough to turn me off. It has been a long time since I have seen a hotel website that did not allow you make reservations online. What are they hiding? My interest is quickly fading.

Have stayed there several times during CES and for New Year's Eve. Rooms are nothing fancy, but the location is fantastic. Stayed on the first/ground floor once and the window opened out into the underground parking garage. Stayed on the second floor the next year and we could climb out the window and walk across to the McDonald's as required.

It is best to ask for a room on the south side - that way you can get free wifi from the McDonald's next door.

I used to check rates at Casino Royale just for the heck of it. They were surprisingly high for a small hotel. For instance, when other budget hotels would be $49 a night, they would be $89. Now I see they don't even want to list their high rates on their website.

I have stayed there lots of times.
The rooms are just fine. They remodeled a couple of years back and the rooms are as "cute" as any I have stayed in. Not Venetian fancy, but certainly no worn carpet or dirty drapes are anything like that.
They also have things that all the big resorts don't have. Room safes, coffee makers, refrigerators.
The location is great. You can get from your room to the Strip in one minute. The rooms at Casino Royale are actually closer to Harrah's casino than rooms at Harrahs. I have never stepped it off, but I would be willing to bet that a room at Casino Royale would be closer to the casino in Mirage than some of the rooms at Mirage. I'm not kidding.

I like the cheap craps. I wish they had a real blackjack game, one with just mediocre rules, though.

Although I prefer Bellagio or Mirage, I still think that Casino Royale is a great place to stay.

My wife and I stayed there years ago, when we were pushed there when our reservation at the Riviera was screwed up.

Is it Fancy? no! But the room was adequate.

Was I able to park my car and walk 50 steps to my room? YES

Was I able to leave my room, take 50 steps and be on the strip? YES

I agree! It seemed like I was closer to the Mirage and Harrah's Casinos, then I was in many rooms that I have stayed at in those casinos!

And for some reason we always take time out to Visit and gamble at Casino Royale, no matter where we stay.

I've stayed there many times, but only once since they remodeled the rooms and casino rear. Prices became way too high after that. Bill's is a much better value now. Until they get remodeled as well, and there won't be any "cheap" places left on the center of the strip.

We stayed there a few years back. The rooms are not fancy but they were fine with us. And I love that it is not a far walk from sidewalk or casino to your room. And that you have to have your room key to get back to the rooms so not just anyone can.

Personally I didn't even know they had rooms till my husband told me. I never noticed the door going to the rooms.
