    My Trip Report

    Saturday Day 1 (part 1)

We decided to make an impromptu trip to Moncton so I could play a poker tournament. Tournament was a bounty tournament 200 entry/200 bounty/40 admin fee. The Mrs was going to play Ultimate Texas Holdem and/or Craps while I put my time in at the poker table. Nice sunny day for a ride and we only had a 2 hour drive which is nice. Get to the Casino and get checked into the hotel no problem, rooms are nice and spacious and the beds are super comfortable, you sink into them when you lay down. After getting situated in the room we head up to the Casino to get registered for the tournament. My wife, L, checks the UTH table, no seats so she lets the Pit know she is waiting for a seat and pulls up a chair at a closed table to wait.
She asks me to check how many seats left in the tournament when I am there as she might want to play as well. Four seats left in the last session (three sessions total) so I just go ahead and register her to play to ensure she gets a seat if she wants it. Really hate to see her disappointed if the session sells out and it looks like it will. I take her registration down to her and head back to the room to have a quick shower and change into some more comfortable clothes. The plan is to meet my buddy D, who is also playing in the tournament and hit the buffet before the evening tournament session begins. As I am heading back to the Casino I run into D in the lobby just checking in and confirm that we will meet at the buffet for dinner before the tournament and off I go.
Get back to the casino and L has just gotten her seat at UTH and is not sure if she is joining us or not but says check back before we go. Off I go to Video Poker, drilling test holes (as Flusher recommends). First $20 nothing, 2nd 20 nothing, 3rd twenty nothing, it just isn't happening so I cut my losses, tuck tail and wander around the casino for a bit losing another 40 in slots before it is time to meet for dinner. Check in with L and she has just run through her first buy-in at UTH and remarks at how well the dealer has been running indicating that he rolled over quads twice in less that 45 minutes. She is ready for dinner.
Meet up with D for the buffet and the three of eat for $35, not many places you can eat this well for that little money. On the menu, Prime Rib, Crab legs, an assortment of seafood including Mussels, and a couple of selections of baked fish and a variety of vegetables to fill your plate with plus dessert. Had our fill and proceeded to the poker room for our tournament. Out of the three of us L was the only one to advance to the final day to play for the money collecting 3 bounties during the session and ending the day with 55K in chips, just a little over the average stack, not a bad start for her. I busted after about 5 hours in an exercise of patience and folding as the of deuce rag continued pretty much the whole evening. That is poker though, you can't always get massive cards and you just have to do the best you can with what you have and ended up busting out short stacked with pocket 10's vs A 6, still a fun way to spend the better part of an evening. L ended up playing 7.5 hours that session to make it to day 2.

More to come, as I wander downstairs to amuse myself.

    Saturday Day1 (part2)

After busting out of the tournament I wander down to the casino to amuse myself for a while. Had a tough time finding an open VP machine but found one, dumped $40 bucks in and still not getting any love. Not even getting anything that afforded me some playing time. Less than 10 minutes and I have run through the $40 and decide to move on. Wander over to the craps table but get there just as the point is rolled. Stick sees me coming and says money coming in but I decline deciding to wait until play is finished on this point so as to not disrupt the flow, I really wish more people would do this. Couple rolls later seven out and I should have taken this as my queue but instead I bought in for $200. First shooter made two points before SO. Next roller was point, 3 rolls and SO. Next shooter was PSO then it was my turn.....PSO. Lucky to be down only $90 at this point so I decide to walk away. I play at this table semi-regularly and either it is running really hot or ice cold and at this point in time it is felling pretty chilly in here so I pick up my chips and move on. I take a walk to the poker room to check on L and she is doing well adding chips to her stack. I watch her in a hand where a young man has just shoved on her for over half her remaining stack which is about 30K. She has top pair weak kicker on a paired board, has a long hard think about it and decides that the kid likely has a better kicker just the way the hand played out and folds. The young fella proudly displays his bluff to the table but in reality she made the right fold for the situation. Side note, this young man went on to bust about 30 minutes later when he tried the same bluff on someone with a much stronger hand.
Back to the casino I go and I decide to sit down at UTH which I rarely play but there must be something to it L routinely makes money playing this game. I put the $110 on the table and over the course of the next 2 hours run it up to 275, not a bad result so I colour up, cash out and head back to the poker room as they should be getting close to the bubble for the session and I want to check on L.
Back in the Poker room L is standing at the poker cashier cashing out her bounty chips with a big smile on her face, she has made it through to day 2 with about 55K in chips. Play starts at 11am the next morning and it is now 1:30am. We should be heading back to the room to get some rest however she wants to get some time in at the UTH table before turning in. She buys in for 200 and runs it up to 300 in about 45 minutes. Time to head to the room and get some rest.

    Sunday Day2 to come.

    Sunday July 5, Day2

I am an early riser so maybe 5 hours sleep for me then up at 9am, get cleaned up and dressed quietly so as not to disturb L. She doesn't play until 11am so the plan is to make my way to the breakfast buffet to start my day and wake her up around 10:30 to give her time to get ready and play at 11. Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day and today was no exception. Bacon, sausage, toast, 3 egg omelet coffee and OJ, was very good and set me up nicely for the day. Probably spent an hour sitting in the buffet digesting and drinking coffee, actually went back for another plate of bacon...yummy. Time to go get L up and get packed to head home after the tournament was over.
I got L situated in the poker room and went and put my name on the list to play cash 1/2 poker when they finally manage to get a table open. Seems this weekend they are short on dealers so they are 45 minutes late getting the cash table opened up, they actually had to wait for the tournament to play down from 36 to 30 so they could collapse a table and free up a dealer. To waste some time I went to UTH again, bought in for $200 played for about an hour and was down $50 so I took a walk for a bit and decided to try VP, my game of choice is DDB for some reason I really don't know why it's just what I started playing after reading on the forums here and deciding to give VP a try however I digress. So I drop a $20 in and 5 minutes it is gone and I get maybe 15 minutes out of the next one however it just doesn't seem to be my trip this time around. I give up on VP and go to the poker room to wait for my seat, L is holding her own in the tournament but says she has been pretty card dead so far. I remember that she has 20 FP waiting for her at the kiosk and grab her players card from her, we routinely do this and the last two times I have turned her 20 FP into $80 so I thought this could be a way to waste oh maybe another 5 minutes while I wait for a seat.
So I saddle up in front of a Game King and load in her 20 FP, select 8/5 DDB on quarters. Start playing and this is feeling a little different, hitting a couple 3OAK and couple straights keeping me playing for a while. This is exciting, the first hint that I am going to get some playtime instead of flushing my buyin or her buyin as it were. After about 15 minutes of holding my own I am 94444, I know right? I have had a fair number of quads but have never had quads with kicker before so this is exciting. So with Aces held I push the button and

BAM!! Ace kicker and a quick $200 which is really cool, but what to do with the money? Anyway I play down to $200 even and being a savvy player (because I read Flushers reports) I cash out and take the money and run. I look up at the poker listing and my name is flashing meaning there is a seat available for me so off I head to the poker room.

    Sunday Part 2

I do a quick check on L before hitting the cash table, she is holding her own but not able to chip up very much which is vital at this point in the tournament. Day 2 started with 36 players and they were paying 18 so she had her work cut out for her. Off to the cash table to see if I could turn things around a bit. Long story short for me, played for about 2.5 - 3 hours, made a few hands and managed to double my buyin so up 200. L walked in after 5 hours of playing day 2 busted shoving short stack with 88 in late position in an unopened pot running into Aces in the small blind...basically just bad luck. She had finished 18th and managed a min cash and with her 3 $200 bounties she had managed to pay for our tournaments and walked away with a little profit to boot.
I also ended up giving her the $200 I had parlayed her 20 FP into earlier and this brought a prety wide smile to her face. All in all it was a nice little getaway
    Thanks for reading :)
