I usually do the same and then tap the CL if needed. I prefer to go to the cashier and get a couple thousand rather than getting it at the tables

For what you described as your bankroll and buy ins. $5,000 is about perfect for a credit line instead of front money.

No wire fee upfront and no hassles when you leave, just write a check for your markers.

I have $5k credit lines at all the casinos I stay at and it's generally my loss limit per property per stay as well. If I have a trip where I want to play higher, then I'll wire.

I had Caesars once refuse to wire $3k back to my bank that I had left at the end of a trip. They ended up doing it, but that's also a problem you might run into. Setting up a credit line you know is going to be high enough makes it cashless arriving and leaving.

And $5k front money vs $5k credit line isn't going to get you any special treatment.

I usually drop 5k in the MB cage as front money and keep another couple grand in the room safe as backup $. I play on the front money markers, buy in for 1k (pai gow, craps, bacc) usually start at $100 bets. Never a problem using 5k as front money.

These are all great replies. I'm going ahead and doing the paperwork for 5k CL at Mandalay Bay. I plan on bringing 2k in cash when I play at MGM (the other place I like to play pai gow poker at). I will fax the paperwork Monday. Hopefully, that will be enough time to process before my July 8th trip.

So any other "need to know" stuff using CL? What do I do when I first arrive at the casino? I hear I need to bring a blank check with me.

I would agree with others that if you want to deposit front money, and don't feel comfortable carrying the cash, than absolutely go ahead and do it. If it annoys the pit staff too bad. You are the customer, and your sense of well being, and safety is what is important. The casino is happy when you deposit money at their cage.

As far as carrying cash goes, I have found a good way to carry around large amounts of cash without the fear of it dropping out of your pocket, is to put it inside, and utilize zip-up pockets in a fleece. This is a very safe and secure way of making sure it does not fall out, or that someone can easily snatch it. Casino floors are generally cold anyway, so wearing a fleece is not a problem.

They won't say anything to the player but they do get annoyed if people take multiple small markers.
I have seen and heard pit bosses complaining after the player left.
Why not take $1000?Who knows how they might screw up your rating?

I don't have to worry about that. One $500 marker will last me hours at the pai gow poker table. At the Blackjack table it may be different but I'm the type of player where if I lose $500 at a particular table. I just switch tables/games for a bit. I don't like re-buying in on a losing table.

Right--of course they will process the small markers for you, but do you really want to annoy the guy making a judgement about your rating?

Exactly, no need to give them any reason to give you a lower rating.

Go to the cage, tell them you set up a CL and want to activate it, they'll have you sign a form, that's about it. I can't remember if a blank check was required or not, but it won't hurt. Depending on your playing style, you should be bringing a few anyway.

After a certain period of no activity using your line, they may want to re-verify your bank balance. I had this happen at V/P once after not playing there for a year, went to take a marker at a table, they said I needed to go to the credit desk. Took about 10 -15 mins.

Yes, each person should do what works for them.

What I fail to understand is those that think carrying a few thousand in cash around somehow increases their risk of being robbed.

    How does that work?

I don't think a lot of those people think they're more likely to get robbed, just the fact that if they did get robbed they're less likely to lose a good chunk of their bankroll if it's on deposit in the cage rather than in their pockets. If the casino offers it and somebody doesn't feel like walking around with a few grand in their pocket then why not use the resources available if it keeps them in a better state of mind?

I totally understand anyone's hesitation to carry around thousands of $$ or to have thousands in their safe...all about personal preference..in a typical 5 days trip, I usually have a bankroll of 10k-15k. When I go out to play I carry about 3k with me and if I win a couple thousand in a session, I put it in my overstuffed wallet(oh the major problems I suffer there sometime! Lol) and head back to the room safe..in over 10 years of trips I've never had 1 incident or issue w the cash(knock on wood for this Augusts trip!)

I understand the hesitation as well, sometimes I prefer to get shitfaced drunk and don't want to be constantly checking my pocket or socks to verify that I still have all my cash.

I generally take between 12 to 15k a trip I used to take all cash but after a bad experience with tsa at the airport finding the cash and asking me 50 questions and almost trying to say they were keeping it until I could prove we're it came from I almost missed my flight they were complete assholes so now I have a line of credit at the few casinos I go to for 8k each and then I take like 5k in cash so I don't have to worry about the TSA I generally take out markers for 1500 to 2000 at a time
