Going to be in Vegas in a month and car rental prices are nuts. Wanted a car between Mar 1 at noon until 10pm on the 5th. Best rate I got was $190 for a fullsize car through Total Rewards for those dates when I checked 2 months ago. Held off hoping they would fall. Prices on all sites fluctuate daily but now the cheapest was $400 for the same car and duration. Have checked TR, Costco, Hotwire, Expedia and the agencies, etc.

Last March through TR we had a car for 6 days costing $104 total. Double this yr is steep enough but 4x the amount seems insane for a week that isn't very busy.

Any tips from the pros for hunting for a better rate? Maybe clearly cookies or using a different computer will yield a different result? Wife really wanted to do Red Rock, Hoover and Neon Boneyard this time. Any help would be appreciated.

Carrentalsavers.com gives me 212-219 with Fox (bleh). Around $300 with a decent outfit like budget or enterprise. Alamo has a van listed for 285. That was with your dates and times.

I've always had good luck with carrentalsavers. It's sorta like a kayak or Expedia that uses coupon codes already.

I know those prices are nowhere close to what you are looking for, but your running into nascar week and lots of people who fly into town for that have to drive to get to the track, unlike heavy convention dates. When you consider the fees at LAS, $104 last year sounds like a absolute steal.

Ive been monitoring the prices for a trip landing on March 2nd thru March 5th. Rates flat blow from now until March. I did notice that about 10 to 14 days before arrival the rates do drop. It looks like about one to two weeks prior to your landing will probably be the best rates. Between this and SWA (as well as other airlines) this is far from the cheapest trip. Thankful that Orleans doesnt have their heads completely up their butts like CET. At least casino rate was reasonable.

I booked an economy vehicle through Payless for $109 total for March 1-5. Went through SWA site on Jan 11. That same vehicle would cost over double now, though Fox has something similar for $124. However, stay away from Fox if at all possible. Not worth the price savings.
Hang on and don't get too stressed out. Very good chance rental prices will drop.

I was pleasantly shocked by the $104 last yr especially since it was actually Nascar weekend and the massive construction convention week as well. Wasn't expecting to get that sweet deal again. Since I didn't book at $200 the Canadian dollar is in a free fall rental prices have gone in the opposite direction.

Will keep checking and will have a look at carrentalsavers too. Thx

I always check daily up to my trip. For our two week trip last May, I changed the reservation at least 4 times, the last one within two weeks. I think you still have a good chance to see if drop. But I would make a non credit card res now with the cheapest you can find just in case.

Payless for your dates and times has a mini van (cheapest thing strangely) for $298 total after taxes. Compacts are higher. Have no idea why, usually mini vans are high.

Just got the same rate again. It might be time of day or perhaps you put the codes in wrong?

Was just checking for my March trip again, and prices had dropped. So I checked your dates again as well, and as of noon eastern, there's a standard size with Dollar for 228. Like I said earlier, go ahead and reserve it. Carrentalsavers lets you make multiple reservations and you can cancel anytime you find something cheaper.

I found my options opened up when I started looking at Sam's Club, Costco and American Express Travel for car rentals.

If you get there Saturday night instead of Sunday the rates will be cheaper. I noticed a significant savings picking up my car when I got there on Saturday vs picking it up on Sunday morning. The drop off was the same time in both my price checks. I'll be there Feb 28 through March 4

I tend to check priceline daily to see how the rental car prices are trending and then if I notice something cheaper, I go directly to that rental companies website as they tend to give a better discount if you're a member of their "club". I also check TR periodically. Never hurts to check the morning of your flight. I've already switched a reservation 10 minutes before boarding the plane and saved over $100.

I've also noticed that 2 days was the same price as 4. There is no rhyme or reason behind this. Nissan Altima just dropped to $48 a day taxes included through Total Rewards so booking that and hoping it falls. Cheers
