So, I had bariatric surgery in July; lost 70 lbs, started at the gym and look great now. BUT...and this is a big but...I can only eat a tiny bit of food before I'm full...like a small appetizer. I can only handle alcohol slightly...like, maybe, 2 drinks in a day or the astringent quality to the alcohol makes me not feel too well. I also only plan on having a $3,000 BR for 10 days.
So, I can't eat much. I can't drink much. I can't gamble much. I can have a lot of sex. Is this worth the trip?

I would think it would depend upon how you typically have done Vegas in the past. Are big fancy meals and lots of drinking a big part of what made Vegas enjoyable to you?

I'm wondering whether a shorter trip for your 1st time back be a better option, just to make sure how you can do Vegas now is still enjoyable to you. 10 days seems like a long time to me (haven't been more than 4 nights myself), especially if there is some chance that it isn't going to be as enjoyable as it used to be.

I guess this trip will decide if Las Vegas is the same to me. I always rent a car and really enjoy driving all over the place and to sites around and outside the valley...though I have been to most of them multiple times. I thought I'd bring some star gazer stuff and spend some evenings outside the valley star watching. Very cool when you can make out the Milky Way across the sky.
I travel from the East Coast so it's a long plane flight which makes me want to get all the stay I can. I have enough hotel offers for 3 weeks if I so desired to stay that long but 2 weeks is usually enough. I retired very early so time is not a problem. I could write the ultimate trip report of no meals, no drinking escapes and no gambling. What fun! (Should have done that last trip...I got 3 royals last trip!). I will miss the buffets.

The sex action is good in Vegas no matter which side of the street you drive on. We were just at the drag queen show at senor frogs abs it was a great time.

My wife lost 70lbs through diet and exercise. Just wanted to throw that out because I'm proud of her and she looks fantastic.

Do it! Do it! Do it! :woot:

On the food front, there are options. Look into some small plate kind of restaurants or explore online at the appetizer options at places you have wanted to try.

I had the ahi tuna sliders app at Holsteins with a cider and really enjoyed it and didn't end up feeling stuffed and tired after dinner like some of our group. Bonus, the smaller plates are easier on the budget.

And wander to some places that are new to you that sound interesting. One of the benefits of having a car.

    Hi smerrian,

First of all, congratulations on the weight loss and looking great! Well done!

I think, if the things you can't do anymore now, were in the past what made Vegas do it for you, then maybe you will not enjoy it as much, or even feel bored or sad (for missing out).

On the other hand, if you enjoy Vegas for other things as well and are ok with other people eating and drinking around you, then why would you not have a great time again?!

In any way, like you said yourself, you will need to try to find out. I hope it works out for you!

On the eating: I like what Sonya said, to find the nicer restaurants and chose only the mouth-watering delicious appetizers or small plates, that maybe in the old days would have been over-shaddowed by big entrées and large amounts of food.

On the drinking: I'm not sure if I got it right, but the quality of the alcohol has something to do with if you can handle it well or not? If so, maybe you can try to not drink at all on most days and pick one or two occasions where you will have a few drinks that you can handle slightly better? (Sorry if I got it wrong here, I'm not trying to push you into something that is not good for you!).

On the gambling: I go for 20 days myself (coming all the way from Amsterdam, which is almost 24 hours traveling door-to-door, with lay-overs etc) and only bring a $2000 bankroll. What I plan to do is having only 4 or 5 gambling days (plus a $20 in a bartop VP here and there) and not play too wild, so I still can enjoy it for a while when I do play.

On the lot of sex: Not sure if you are traveling with someone or solo? But you probably save some money on the food/drinks side, so why not use that for your pleasure? When with someone, make it a romantic/erotic trip, with nice shows and good times in the room (a hottub!). Or when solo, there are lots of options for sex in Vegas, when you are willing to pay for it. And even without paying for it I guess, if you are willing to make the effort.

What I do to entertain myself and make my money last longer: I do a lot of pre-planning - it became a hobby - and try to find free/cheap entertainment, good happy hour deals, cheap transportation and other offers and promotions. And I play myVegas and save up loyalty points, which I can use for free entertainment and other things. Then I try to combine various things I found in the same area/direction and make it a day trip.

Also, you jokingly mentioned writing a trip report. But I think it's a great idea and a fun way to pass time! I would love to follow how you're getting along, the things you do and how you like it, and see pictures of fine dining appetizers and small plates. Go for it!

And then a last thing: Unfortunately I don't think you are in Vegas anymore (according to your counter) for the VMB high limit slot pull on the 25th of November, but you can always organise something yourself on the board, like a meet-n-greet, for the days you will be there. There are so many members, I'm sure there will be like-minded people to hang out or share a meal with.

Have lots of fun and please let us know the outcome!

Well, there is a lot of stuff you can do in Vegas besides eating, drinking, and gambling. Book an ATV tour through the desert, jump off the Stratosphere Tower, buy tickest for Vegas shows, drive an army tank, go shopping in the Forum Shops, ride some roller coasters, go indoor skydiving, fly with a helicopter to the Grand Canyon.......and yes, you can have a lot of sex in Vegas too (see the hooker stories section on this board), if that is your thing.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. There are some great ideas there! I have a list of happy hours and appy specials from another poster on the board. Looks like dinners will be set. I love the French bakery on Sahara so it looks like breakfasts are set. (I don't eat lunch in LV). I will miss buffets...I love buffets. I love to drive in the region so that will be a biggie for me.
As for sex, I drive on the left side of the road so expensive hookers aren't needed. This is easy when you take female 'brakes' out of the equation.

    I'd do it..
Just eat until your full (obviously buffet is not the way to go, but at fancy restaurants you only get small plates so it would be perfect)
    Drink whatever you can.
Gamble as much as you like. ($3k for 10 days on quarter vp isn't bad)

Snidely inferred that sex action is good in Vegas whether you're straight or gay ("no matter which side of the street you drive on.")
I responded that I'm gay so I wouldn't have to shovel out a lot of money for hookers. ("I drive on the left side of the road")

    Sorry the euphimisms were confusing.

$3k for isn't enough for sex or gambling 10 days.
Put the trip off. Use these funds for another trip or shorten this trip to 2-3 nights.

Thank you! And no not so much confusing, I kinda got it right, but I was afraid I assumed wrong (and I never know which side is the gay side and which straight, like with earrings too lol).

But I see your point, my gay friends are much more successful when it comes to casual sex than my straight friends. So funny!

Tapas style restaurants would be perfect! Cosmo I believe has a few! They also serve quality drinks and better grade liquor if that helps at Chandelier bar. Get a refrigerator in your room and take leftovers with you. Save you buying dinner the next night since you can eat so little at a time and that keeps money in your pocket. Have a great trip and hell I'd go 10 days on less if it was option. Oh and be safe with all the sex! Lol

Congrats on the weight loss. I think it depends on you whether you will enjoy vegas or not. If you normally are a big eater and drinker then you may not enjoy your trip as much as before. You may also have to rethink what you do in vegas since eating and drinking may not be as high on the priority list anymore.

I am diabetic but before I was diagnosed I used to like eating at the buffets and "pigging" out. After a few years I learned that I needed to cut down on my food intake so nowadays I don't eat as much anymore. I also prefer to eat smaller meals throughout the day instead of big meals. I still love going to vegas but food isn't a big thing anymore, more just for sustenance so I don't spend a lot of money going to nice restaurants or going to places with big meals (so HHAGG isn't on my visit list). I still will go to a buffet but usually it is the seafood buffet at the fremont. I can eat all the crab legs I want but I skip eating a lot of the other starchy foods.

As for the vegas budget, it also depends on you. $3k for 10 days = $300 a day. For some people that is enough to get their vegas and gambling fix but for others who go through $3k a day it could be painfully deficient so it depends on what type of gambler you are. For me, I could live on $300 a day in vegas (as long as the $300 doesn't include my hotel or rental bill). I usually will try to do other things like take drives to the boulder highway casinos or even hoover dam or VOF or RR canyon.

10 days is a little long for some people, I think the average for most of us is probably in the 4 to 7 day range so you may want to cut your stay shorter so your bankroll lasts longer, but that is JMHO.
