My wife loves her morning bloody marys when we travel. In Vegas we have been told my several different bartenders at several different casinos, that a beer chaser must be a Midwest thing, because only us Midwest people request it.

Same thing happened in Seattle, Phoenix and Portland, Maine.

Is this really true? Are we are the only ones who know you need a beer chaser with a BM? Regional thing?

One of our breakfast places we go to gives you a 7oz shorty bottle with the BM.

Out here the regional quirk is to just double the vodka without requesting it.

Cant get past the BM, forget a beer chaser. I could never put something like tomato juice down in my stomach after a night of scotch/rocks. I usually go for an oj/cranberry juice mix.

The beer chaser is mainly a regional play. Living in Illinois (currently) and having lived in Minnesota (2001-04), it's seen in both places.

Breeze147: I'd never heard of red beer until I lived in Idaho for a couple of years. I like tomato juice (and yes, beer), but never thought of marrying the two together. But it's actually pretty good. Out there, you order red beer one of two ways: Tomato or Clamato.

I come from the land of the Michelada and the Bloody Mary That Is Also A Small Meal. I've never heard of a beer chaser except with a shot of Cuervo or Jack.

Not heard of in my area of NY.
The only place, in the world, i order a Bloody Mary = VEGAS !!!
I don't drink mixed drinks ( just beer ) so those BM have a
way of sneaking up on me in Vegas.
I have to remember to have JUST ONE or my all day beer sippin' gets cut short !

here in Mn we almost always get beer chasers, sometimes they'll ask if you want one. bloody mary bars are popular here as well on weekend mornings, they give you the shot of vodka and then you mix your own along with various toppings. Some places put everything but the kitchen sink in bloodies, shrimp, meat sticks, celery with cheese whiz , etc.

Exactly right. Typically there's never been a question about getting a beer chaser with a bloody here in MN but rather what beer would you like as a chaser. Bloody bars are always a good way to start an afternoon!

Just one more reason to love the West! A Bloody Mary isn't doing me any good if I can't see through it!

But that does give me an idea, since I'm sipping on a Bloody Mary as I type. What beer to chase this with? Something cheap, but from the west.

    Oly!
