When we (Mlife Sapphire members) stayed at the Excalibur in the summer of 2011, my wife was able to get strawberry daiquiris for free while we played. Our good friends (Mlife Platinum members) were at the Monte Carlo a few weeks ago and were told that you must pay for blended drinks.

Have things changed? Does the policy differ from one casino to the next?

There's no law or universal rule that says they have to give you any free drinks, so, obviously, they can choose what to and not to give you for free and it certainly does vary from place to place.

There's been threads about what places will do what at what levels of play (like the same place might not give you top shelf whatever at a penny slot but might at a higher limit table or machine.) I think I remember a thread about what energy drinks various places would give out.

Your friends probably just walked up to the bar and flashed a slot voucher or something.

It's my impression that if they have a slurpee-type machine running with Margaritas, like Westward Ho used to have all the time, they would be comped just like any other well drink. Now if they don't, and the bartender has to make it individually, they may not comp it.

This happened to me at a video poker bar at Monte Carlo the last time I was there over labor day. My wife wanted a pina colada, and the bartender told me he couldn't comp it. So I charged it to my room and had it comped. But it was odd that it wasn't comped in the first place. At the craps table, they comped those kinds of drinks, but not playing VP.
