I've seen dealers assume I didn't want a card and pass me by. These situations were basic strategy no-brainers (like having a 18 when the deal up-card is a 5), but it still annoys me when they don't wait for my input. If I wanted to play a completely passive game I'd be playing slots. ;-)

Had a soft19 once on the two-deck shoe game at LVC, and dealer had 6 showing. When she passed me up, I immediately put my double-bet out there. She noticed immediately, of course, and came back to me & asked (incredulously) if I was sure I wanted to do that.
I said yes, drew a face card, and she still busted.
    Her remark: "you got lucky!"
I chuckled (silently), and said, "yeah - I'm sure it was all luck."

Another case of somebody else wanting to play your hand for you...

This just reminded me of something. Some players thing you must wait for the dealer to come to you to make a double or split bet. This isn't true. If I'm around the table a ways and I know I'm increasing my bet, I always just put it on the table right away. When the dealer gets to me, they'll know I need the single double-down card or to do the split. This speeds the game up a little bit.

Wade...I typically do that as well.
In this situation, there was only one other player & I was first.
She just breezed right by me and was waiting on the other player when I got my double out there.

Unless I know the dealer, if I intend to play anything even approaching a "controversial" hand, I'm extremely attentive and ready to pounce! Once at Harrah's New Orleans, the dealer tried to pass me when I had an A, 7. I wanted to double down and immediately slammed on the brakes. Even then, he tried to talk me out of it. Doubling and getting a 3 was icing on the cake. And yes, I had already slid out the additional chips! Obviously, we're talking about games dealt face up.

I have a rule. If ever there is a question about whether or not to call the floor: call the floor.

Bear case: they rule against you.
Base case: they see how much action you're giving them and remember your face. COMPS, BABY!
    Bull case: Money back!

    Santé,

I would bet if you ask any boss about how the dealers are trained, they INSIST that the player give them a hand signal on every hand, regardless of how trivial (like TTvT). If they blast by without getting a signal from the player, they're being lazy and not following the correct procedure.

Pitch games are easier as when the cards are already tucked in the betting circle, the 'signal' has already been made.
