LasVegasAdvisor reported June 13 on several of the closings/restaurant revamping at Boyd properties in Las Vegas, including Willy&Jose's at Sam's Town.

In eating at the venerable Billy Bob's steak house on Wednesday night, we asked one of the long-time waiters if he knew what restaurant would be replacing the Mexican restaurant.

He said it would be a 'high-end' steak house, also that Billy Bob's would be closing and replaced by a barbecue restaurant. Both new outlets would be Boyd restaurants, not chain outlets. The new steak house is slated to open mid-August.

The wife and I have eaten more than our share of beef over the years at Billy Bob's, more times than not on a comp. If it does close, we'll miss the place.

Good. The new restaurants that Boyd has been opening have been significant upgrades. Alder and Birch at the Orleans is a prime example. Billy Bob's served a lackluster hunk of meat. Ditto for the Cortez Room at Gold Coast. Out with the old, in with the new!

Well that kind of sucks. I loved the scallops at Billy Bob's! Hoping the new steakhouse will have them on the menu. Give me a good plate of seared scallops over a steak any day!

    Cheers,
    Kelly

Albeit MANY yrs ago I had a GREAT meal there( Billy Bobs) . They had "rocky mountain oysters" as a special app. Me at the time never having heard of them before asked the waiter what it was. I damn near coughed up my beer on myself him and the next 3 surrounding tables....and I did cringe as well....Even today I don't think I could bring myself to trying them... Damn shame place is closing...

According to a reader's post on the LVA website, Billy Bob's is closing July 24th. They had reservations for a later date but were informed of the closing.

Called today to book a future reservation for Billy Bobs and was told that this coming Wed will be their last day for them. The new restaurant will be Angry Butcher. (I'm the one that is angry) They stated they will not have a prime rib special but will have comparable prices .
I always go there when in Vegas. I know that things evolve but not the good stuff.

It's a Boyd wide thing. They are "investing" in upgrading many of their restaurants. Pasta Pirate is gone, Redwood is being redone (who knows if it will have a new name), the Cal Snack Bar is gone, Willy and Jose's is gone, and at least one place in the Orleans has closed and reopened as a more upscale place. They call it "progress".

Sam's was a favorite of mine, but they were slowly moving away from the great values they used to offer.

I would take it as a positive move, replacing the chain outlets with house owned ones.
From gambler's point of view, that's a good thing.
It will be easier to get comps with house owned restaurants.
The prices will go up, that's 100.76% sure.

Actually, all the places mentioned, as well as Billy Bob's, are house owned already, so there is no change there, and it will be no easier getting comps. As to the prices going up, yes, that is certain.
