Any thoughts as to the best options for quarter (or lower) video poker at MGM Grand? Nothing is listed on vpfree2. I know there's full pay JOB at nearby NYNY (w/o pts) and 9/5 JOB at Hooters, Tropicana, and Luxor, but was hoping for something playable at MGM.

I stayed at MGM in September and played VP quite a bit there. No good paytables at the quarter level (typical 8/5 DDB offerings). The 3 places I played the most at were:

    1) Centifuge Bar - its the circular bar near the Strip entrance right outside of Hakkasan. Great place to people watch at night when the club is open.

    2) Crazy Horse Bar - its the long bar across from the David Copperfield theatre. If you are alone and playing VP there after midnight be prepared to be propositioned by hookers often.

    3) Small Bar right near the hotel elevators (cant remember the name, not Whiskey Down). Best bartenders and drink service of the 3. Bonus that the pretty cocktail waitresses wore garter stockings (my kryptonite).

This is kind of a smart-ass reply... take 8 quarters and take the WAX downtown.

It is pretty sad, the quarter VP situation in that part of the strip. I tended to take flyers on short-pay high volatility games like Super Triple Double Fucker Long-shot Bonus hoping for a lightning-strike big hit.

If you don't care about points, those non-point games at NYNY are an option.

There's a bank of 7/5 Bonus progressive that might be somewhat playable at Luxor, depending on the progressive amounts.

Do you check the paytable you saw on that Tens or better unit you found at MGM? That could be one of the better games at the quarter level. 20/6/5/4/3/2/1 = 97.96%. If by some miracle quads were 25 and two pair was still 2 for 1, then it would be 99.13%!

From what I saw from my Sept. visit, I didn't see too much unfortunately. But if you must play at MGM, 8/5 Boner Deluxe (97.40%) is at one of their bars. It was the biggest bar they had I think; I didn't see a name for it (maybe Crazy Horse bar according to RIRugrat). Best nickels, 7/5 Bonus 50-play with Quick Quads (strategy changes needed for optional QQ bet) (98.01% w/o QQ; 98.28% with QQ), no minimum bet requirement though, so you could play 5 lines for "quarter play". They also have 6/5 Bonus w/Double STP (strategy changes NOT needed) (96.87% w/o DSTP; 97.36% w/DSTP) for nickels. I didn't see Super Double Double Bonus, or Super Aces Bonus there, but if you found either of those, the 6/5 versions of those games pay 97.6%+ and are often the picks of the "shortpay litter".

I personally would play QQ unless you want bar service obv, but then again there is something sexy about holding things like 3699.

    7/5 Bonus Quick Quads strategy:

This is spot on. We went to MGM for dinner two weeks and played VP for an hour before and after (and got destroyed). 8/5 DDB was the best offering at the quarter level. Drink service was very good (and entertaining) at the Crazy Horse bar. Consistent with the poster above's experience, I was promptly hit on by a hooker, even though my wife was with me. :poke:

Wow, I'd forgotten about that 10s or Better game. I wonder what the strategy is like for it? Must check the paytable on that sucker.

If someone wants to find it, it is in a bank of VP machines next to the pit just south of the Lion's Share machine. It's on the left hand side in the middle of two banks of really old CRT machines and when you are sitting at it, you are facing the bj tables in the pit, facing east actually.

My remembery might be a bit hazy here but its in that bank somewhere...

Strategy is pretty similar to JoB except that you hold a ten as a high card as well.

Ironically after you wrote about the game. I did stumble across one elsewhere this fall. BUT the game was 10/7/5/3/1/1. The 1 for 1 payout on two pair makes the game unacceptable.

Jump on the monorail in the basement of the MGM. At the end of the line, the LVH has full pay JOB in the sportsbook.
