We're not big gamblers, but enjoy playing jacks or better, black jack and a few other games. We're doing downtown one night this weekend where I like to play at the Boar's Head bar at MSS while downing some of their brews (9/6 last time we were there anyway). Our next two days will be at Bally's. What's the best option for low rolling in that area with at least somewhat decent pay tables? I know Ellis Island is an option, but I'm looking for something on the strip and in the general vicinity of Bally's.

    Thanks!

Good JoB is difficult to find on the strip at quarters, particularly at bars. I would strongly recommend Bonus Poker instead for most casinos. Strategy is virtually unchanged. If you like bartops, hit Bally's casino bar (near the main VP area) and get on the All Star II units. Pick Super Times Pay from the games. Pick 3 play Bonus Poker. The paytable should be 7/5 (98.01%; 98.29% w/STP). Even though this is a three line game, you can choose to play one line via the touch screen and still bet 5 credits (6 for STP).

If you MUST play JoB, 8/5 JoB (97.30%) is at MGM Grand casino bars. Caesars Palace Sportsbook bar also has 8/5 JoB on All Star II games on their Double Super Times Pay games (97.79% w/DSTP 7 credit bet). Bellagio has 9/5 JoB (98.45%) for quarters at the Sportsbook bar, but it's a standard triple play game on an All Star machine, and on those you must play all hands to max bet. Luxor offers 9/6 JoB (99.54%) for dollars at their high limit bar. Most other bars only offer 7/5 JoB (96.15%) at the quarter level.

If you play on the floor, 7/5 Bonus and 8/5 JoB will be at a lot of casinos for quarters, definitely at CET properties. NYNY has 9/6 JoB for quarters near the hotel, but they earn no points. Luxor has a 9/5 JoB w/a Royal Flush progressive with a good meter near Playbar.

Tringlomane, as usual, is on the money. See his treatise on bartop poker for all the information you'd want. I often stay at Bally's. My go-to VP is:

    1) Ellis Island (99.5% JoB)
    2) Bally's (the aforementioned 7/5 BP)
    3) Planet Hollywood (7/5 BP by Planet Daily's)

I like the environment at all three places, even though they differ wildly. I pretty much wear a groove in the pavement along the PH-EI axis. It depends on if I'm in the mood for local's joint full-pay (Ellis), mid-roller mainstream (Bally's) or sort-of-hip with more beautiful people (PH).

I found some 8/5 JoB Progressive right outside the Carnegie Deli in the Mirage a couple of weeks ago.
