    So I've arrived in Vegas!

...and come down with a crappy cold. Can anyone recommend a good cold remedy for runny nose/tickly cough as I'm unfamiliar with the brands over here.

Guess all these cvs's and walgreens are going to come in handy after all!

    Thanks :)

DayQuil , lots of electrolytes, hydrate, don't mix with booze, won't make it go away, but makes it bearable. Most important...Carry On.
    Have a great trip.

Get something with an antihistamine. Aside from brands, look at the packaging and get something according to your symptoms. There are different brands with the same ingredients. They all should have the same quality medicine, just the name brands will be more expensive. I would just get the cheapest medicine that fits your symptoms. (If you don't have a sore throat, headache, pain, you don't need one with a pain reliever- acetaminophen or ibuprofen) You can always ask a pharmacist what they recommend based on your symptoms also. Keep in mind, that most cold medicines may make you sleepy even when they say daytime.

Look for that stuff that has zinc in it(forget the name) it wont cure the common cold but it can shorten it. Rest ,fluids, no real cure that I ever found.

Are you sure it's a cold and not an allergy? Lots of pollen in the air that your body might not be familiar with and have antibodies ready to fight against. If it stays as sniffles, hydration with half strength Gatorade, recommended dose of an NSAID for a headache and definitely something like Cold Eze which has Zinc. Avoid really smoky casinos, get lots of rest. If you develop a serious cough, go to a Doc-in-a-box. One head cold for me turned out to be pneumonia in 2009 in Vegas and made an 8 day trip into a 22 day one.

If you don't have high blood pressure and you want a good decongestant - Mucinex - D. The sudafed can be rough on high blood pressure. A soak in Dr Teal's menthol bath salts - they sell it at Walmart and Walgreens or CVS probably has something similar. If you have a fever Motrin or Tylenol and as already mentioned plenty of fluids. I know it is vegas but you will have to get some extra rest.

Anything with sudafed is kept behind the counter in the pharmacy - It is easier to buy pot in this country than it is sudafed - so you will not be able to run into a quick hotel store for sudafed -- God forbid you are running a meth lab in your hotel room.:evillaugh

Personally I don't like anything with sudafed, it makes my heart race badly. But if I can't stop sneezing I'll take it.

OP - During the day take the previously mentioned DayQuil. At night take NyQuil. Don't take WineQuil, NyQuil and wine. It messes up your sleep.

Plenty of water, eat as much as you want to and nap as needed.

If you're willing to lose a night and part of a day, Comtrex. It's industrial strength.

The short version, though, is that anything you need to show ID for will work just great. You're just looking to treat the symptoms, since there's not much you can do about the underlying virus.

Sleeping and drinking an entire carton or more of orange juice seems to work quickest for me.

Order a hot tea with lemon and honey or sugar along with a shot of brandy. Pour that brandy in that tea and drink it. Whiskey would also work. Soup, especially ones with chicken broth, is good for colds. I also agree with Vitamin C. Don't know why I feel better when I drink it when I have a cold but I do.

Go easy on the cold meds as they just ease symptoms and don't make you better faster. Too much will make you feel worse than just the cold. For multi symptom colds I like the DayQuil/NyQuil combo. NyQuil will make you sleep and it either has alcohol or something that works like it in there so don't mix it with liquor. For just a cough I prefer Robitussin. And be careful as many OTC remedies have acetaminophen so you don't want to take even more Tylenol on top of it.
