Best choice at Bally's?

With airfares from AUS on SW dropping, we decided to book a trip for next month. I checked the TR site and we had 3 nights comped at either Harrah's, Flamingo, Rio or Bally's. We have stayed at all 3 strip properties before and liked Bally's best, so decided to book there. My options for full comp were South Tower Classic, or North Tower Pet Stay. Although we have a dog we adore, we are not planning to bring her along, but I booked the Pet Stay option anyway, since it's North Tower. I figured when we check in we can tell them we changed our mind on bringing the dog, and they will either put us in a regular North Tower room, or still put us in a Pet room anyway, which will not be an issue as we are not grossed out by or allergic to dogs.

Does this seem like a better option than booking the South Tower and hoping for an upgrade when we check in? We are checking in late (10PM-ish) on a Friday night, so who knows what will be available at that point.

We did the same thing, but booked the south basic, because I wasn't sure if we book the petstay, if they would try to charge the pet fee, even if we didn't have a pet? I didn't know what to do either.
But I know Bally's has a 97% upgrade rate and they are nice about that, but if it is busy when we go, there is always the chance we might get stuck in a south room basic, so I am not sure which way is better. Hope some other responses will help.

I also was wondering if the south strip grand suite has a separate bedroom or is it just a larger room with jacuzzi tub?
My son was there last year, south tower basic booked, and they upgraded him to north tower suite, but I didn't like them because I need the bathroom separate where the light doesn't shine on the bed, since hubby gets up very early and I like to sleep late, he sips coffee for an hour or more in the bathroom and pulls a chair in there, he is so considerate not to wake me, and it works out great. Was curious about pictures or details of the south tower grand suite because there are no pictures on the website?

Book the South Tower. We have been upgraded to a north tower room (or north jr suite) every time on a comp at Ballys. I wouldn't risk the PetStay room.

Sorry, I should have gone on to say I've heard it is quite common place at Ballys to upgrade comps if the space is available. :)

To add to the previous posters statement. I have stayed at Ballys 7 or 8 times, always booked in the south tower, but have always stayed in the north just by asking at check in.

I must be the only one who didn't get upgraded to the North Tower. I does happen.

It's been a few years, but the year that there were no upgrades to the North Tower available, my South Tower room wasn't ready and they offered me an upgrade for like $20 a night to the South Tower suite. It was just a big room (TV seems to be 3 miles away from the bed), and the bathroom area is a step up with a big tub right in the middle and any time you move close to it the lights automatically come on. The sinks and stuff I don't think are enclosed. The only area enclosed is the toilet. So I don't think your hubby would be too comfy in there. The pictures of the grand suite on the web site accurately show the bathroom area - it's just not as nice as in the pictures as I'm sure they are from the North Tower.

Well, we booked the North Tower PetStay, and I'll just tell them at check in that we don't have a dog with us and deal with whatever happens from there. Or maybe I'll call a day or two ahead and let them know, under the guise of not wanting to take up a PS room they may need for someone else.

As I said, if they put us in a PS room it won't bother me, since I am a dog nut anyway. I can't imagine they'd try to charge us the pet fee on a comped room if we don't actually have a pet with us. I just really did not want to get stuck in a South Tower room with our only upgrade option being to pay for it.

Edited to have some manners: Thanks for all the responses!!!

People that book the pet rooms knowing full well they won't bring a pet piss me off. What about the people that actually want to bring a pet, that now can't because the room is booked?

We stayed on the petstay floor at Caesers Palace and actually did have our dogs with us. Most of the people on the petstay floor did not have dogs with them. Since you are comped I wouldn't even mention that you don't have a dog with you. They won't care they just want you there to gamble. We never noticed alot of barking or anything so that wasn't a problem. We took our dogs out to the dog run (buisness) area every 2 or 3 hours and never ran into any other dogs there. Although it did freak people out when the elevator doors opened and two little dogs walked on. Bottom line not many people take dogs and they want those rooms filled.
