    Hey all,

I'm planning a surprise trip to Las Vegas for my wife for her birthday in late October. I'm generally a low rent player when I'm by myself, but I know she'd love to be in a very high class casino near center strip. I've heard her speak very highly of her impression of both of these properties. I've never been at either property and want to know what you'd recommend. Or, what you think are the better features of each relative to the other. It would be just the two of us for a 5 day/4 night stay over the weekend. Thanks.

Cosmo is a more hip, generally younger crowd. Bellagio attracts an older crowd than cosmo in general. I actually prefer the casino at Bellagio better. It's not as loud or as "flashy". A lot of people on the board like cosmo though. Seems like Cosmo just has too much going on for my taste. I've never stayed at either so I can't comment on the rooms. Whichever property you choose just make sure you get a fountain view room.

Cosmo for nicer rooms and balcony, also make sure to get a fountain view. The casinos are located next to each other so you can spend time at both properties without walking far no matter which one you choose to stay at.

    I never liked Cosmo.
I predict soon Cosmo will be sold to Glen Straub so that he can turn it into a public bath house.

Neither of us are very flashy either. I'll be 39 and she'll be 34. She'd love a fountain view room.

Another question: For the Bellagio, are the "Deluxe Fountain View" rooms any different than the standard rooms, other than having the fountain view?

Stayed at both many times, would always choose Cosmo over Bellagio all else being equal. Employee attitude hasn't been mentioned, much better at Cosmo, generally. Also the Bellagio base room is a little disappointing to me, while Cosmo rooms are incredible

Just be aware, if you book at Bellagio, that what they call the "fountain view" room is in the Spa Tower--not the main tower overlooking the lake.

    http://www.bellagio.com/hotel/guest-rooms.aspx

Bellagio was my first hotel in Vegas, and the first place I took my wife to. I think it's the consummate "surprise your wife" place. Every time I book someplace else (including for this upcoming trip) I have second thoughts and consider switching to the B. I still might! [EDIT: two weeks later--I did!]

I do like walking through Cosmo, seeing all the hip Beautiful People (and wondering Who are these people?). And the buffet at Cosmo is much better than Bellagio. But the B is just classier, despite the tourist crowds. Plus, there's $10 3:2 blackjack at the B, and I think two 25c full-pay video poker machines! So there's a little bit there for the low-roller, too.

Finally, you might consider Vdara. I've not stayed there, but it's minutes from Aria, Cosmo, and Bellagio and the value for what you pay looks fantastic.

Have not stayed at Bellagio, but have done Wynn, Caesars, Cosmo.
I would choose Cosmo over these 2 every day of the week--if for nothing else, the terrace. I am not one to spend much time in my room in Vegas (too much to do!), but that terrace drew me in & I probably spent more time in my room at Cosmo than any other!.
(btw, I am 49 & DM is 70--we both love the youthful vibe at Cosmo!)

Thanks everyone for the advice. It sounds like the Bellagio is the way to go.

I stayed at the Bellagio with the wife for the first time last June, and the Cosmo for the first time last month. We are in our early 40s.

Bellagio is very "classic" in every sense of the word, and it definitely has a more mature crowd. The pool was fantastic and very relaxing. We paid extra for a premium fountain view room in the main tower and enjoyed it.

Cosmo is very young and hip. Every inch of that property is well designed. We stayed in the east tower in a terrace one-bedroom on the strip side. The room was great, and it was really nice to step out of the elevators with direct access to the restaurants, casino, or strip.

My opinion: either property will be fine for what you are looking for. The Bellagio pool is better. I agree some of the other posters... everyone should stay at a fountain view room at B at least once. However... I have a strong preference for Aria over Bellagio, and I would absolutely stay in Cosmopolitan again. I love the restaurants, people watching, rooms, and vibe.

What you said is what I was getting. It sounds like you really can't go wrong with either property.

I've stayed at Vdara a dozen times or more, great place, but for wowing the SO?
nothing beats the fountain view terrace at Cosmo, plus as a 34 yr old? she's solidly in that demographic
plus as mentioned you're steps away from the B

There's nothing wrong with the Spa Tower rooms per se, but it's toward the back corner of the property and thus doesn't have a head-on, unobstructed view of the fountains the way the rooms in the main tower do. I also personally think it's a little bit of a hike from the main floor and the restaurants in my opinion, but no worse than at a lot of other places. If you're not prioritizing the fountain view there isn't much of a difference, but the main tower rooms definitely have better fountain views.

EDIT: I just looked on the website and the Premier Fountain View rooms are indeed in the main tower, so this is somewhat of an academic discussion. Whoops.
