...in Vegas for it in 2013, any differences in the atmosphere, parties, sports book etc compared to a normal weekend?

    Cheers

In general, no. You're usually looking at March Madness for college basketball around that time. Otherwise, hockey or NBA basketball will get the interest. I love baseball, but opening day in baseball isn't a huge deal as the first week of NFL season.

Nope. None. Typically, less money is wagered on MLB than NFL, College Football, NBA, and College Basketball. Only time there are special events in the sportsbooks is when they are trying to draw in customers to hang around and place wagers in the casino. That means MM and SB. I have been to Vegas for all sorts of other sports events (BCS championship, NBA Finals, Final Four, World Series, etc.) and none of those events drive significant turnout the way MM and SB do. But hey, that's not a bad thing. If you're a big MLB fan who wants to see a lot of opening weekend action, you should easily be able to grab a comfy seat in a sportsbook and then kick back and watch a bunch of games!
