I have to train for 3 weeks in LV, and I need to pay for lodging myself.

I'm checking out these two places based on reasonable prices. They are close. I'm guessing Sam's Town is going to be nicer. I'm looking for a decent room (preferably South Point quality), strong air conditioning, and something quiet. Lots of times when I stay in cheap motels, traffic or cars starting wake me up.

I will MyVegas one weekend priceline one weekend.

    Any advice,

Sam's Town is the better option. The rooms are likely in better condition (I haven't stayed at Arizona Charlies Decatur).

The public area of Sam's Town (casino, dining options) is better. I've been to both casinos and Sam's Town was better in the public areas. AC Decatur was very smoky and not a large property.

I thought the South Point rooms were nicer than Sam's Town (they are nicer than many other mid level strip properties), but Sam's Town rooms are clean and comfortable.

If location is an issue and you want to be north / northwest, check rates at SunCoast or Aliante Casino (PKA Aliante Station).

You won't find South Point quality on the Boulder Highway. Another option is Eastside Cannery which is newer than the 2 casinos you are considering. Seniors/AARP rates are offered. Also, Boulder Station's rooms have recently been renovated but be aware of the resort fee.

I have always been happy with Sam's, but very disappointed with the cleanliness/noise level at Arizona Charlies the one and only we stayed there. The Eastside Cannery has nice rooms though we experienced plumbing problems 2 out of the 3 times we stayed there which goes back to when it first opened.

We play a reasonable amount of time at Sams Town since a couple we know well stays there and is often in the same time we are. I have trouble finding fault there. I finally saw a room and it was nicer than I expected. It was of the class you would find in a ROTH room at Bally's or Flamingo.

Casino is fun and they have a real good selection of lower-limit slots and VP. The cocktail service can be hit and miss but is usually good. They usually have a band in the casino bar Friday and Saturday. Don't forget that the casino extends to the second floor too.

The light show is indeed entertaining the first couple of times you see it. Which reminds me, if you are a light sleeper, request a room away from the court. I took a power nap in our friends' room and the roaring at the beginning of the show woke me up, and I'm one who can easily sleep through nearby railroad noise.

Let's see -- downsides, and it's hard to think of them. They closed the coffee shop and put it yet another TGIF (twirling index finger). They also closed the Italian place, which was very good if someone else was paying. :) :) My brother got into an argument with a bartender who was extremely slow which escalated to management. I was within earshot and the bartender was indeed being a jerk about it. It's way out in the toolies, that's why we don't stay there. We prefer center Strip.

I assume you're talking Arizona Charlies Boulder and not Decatur. AZC on Boulder is the smallest of the Boulder Strip casinos. IIRC it was built up from a motel. From Sams Town, Eastside Cannery, which is new, nice,a and fun, is the only place in walking distance and that assumes you like to walk.

The Sams Town buffet is surprisingly good for the price. Large selection for all meals and mostly all well prepared. They can do a vile job on the steamtable scrambled eggs, which is one of my pet peeves. The prime rib for dinner is usually quite good for a buffet. Billy-Bob's, the Sams Town higher-end place is very good, assuming someone else is paying. :) :)

    That's my quickie review, anyway.

I'm going to echo what wetsie said about Eastside Cannery. After staying at both Sam's and EC, I opt for Eastside.
But, if price is substantially higher than Sam's, stick with Sam's. It's perfectly fine and will be quiet enough.

I don't know where I'll be training yet. I'm leaning toward Sam's Town. If I stay there, can I get around the city ok at 7AM?

Anyone know about the Sam's Town Wal Mart deal?

I do not know anything about a Walmart deal, but if you book your rooms via the Boyd's B-Connected website, you can save $5+ night (if you have a B-connected players club card).

Sams town is also generous with room comps. We stayed there two nights in February. I probably put $100 in different slots and a played BJ/Craps ($5-$10) for @ 10 hours total. Since then, I have been receiving offers for 2 free night (including weekends) and food credits.

I'm thinking of staying at Sam's Town during the week and then either staying with locals, camping, or heading home on the weekends.
