    My Trip Report

Ahh, the pre-Vegas crappy sleep, I have been up since 2:40am. The alarm is set to go off at 4:15am, Texas time. After pushing one of the crappiest projects I have dealt with in a long time out the door yesterday at 4:30pm, and making a mad dash out of the office as soon as it was out my outbox and I could shut down, I feel like this trip is well deserved.

The wife and I celebrated our 10th anniversary back in April. With a pre-k and a kindergartener (now a pre-k 4 and 1st grader) making up the rest of our family, going somewhere during the school year didn't make sense. Back in February, I convinced the wife we should search for the cheapest week based on airfare during the summer, book the flight, and plan from there. She wasn't too keen on Vegas, but spending a night at the Grand Canyon sealed the deal.

Our first 2 nights will be at the Mirage thanks to MyVegas. We each have a night there booked and hopefully they will link them for us. For Friday night, we're moving to Aquarius in Laughlin before making our way to the Grand Canyon and spending Saturday night at the Bright Angel Lodge. On Sunday, we will come back to Vegas and spend Sunday and Monday nights at Caesars.

    A few things planned:
MyVegas Stuff - We each have Aria and Bellagio buffets via MyVegas. We also each grabbed Cucina and Puck MGM BOGO entrees. I have a Red Rock buffet and matchplay, and the same for GVR. I picked up a Monorail BOGO week pass as well. We'll definitely cash in the Aria and Bellagio buffets and probably one or 2 of the Puck ones. The GVR stuff may get refunded or go to waste and we're planning to do the scenic loop at Red Rock and if we do, we'll stop in to the resort for the buffet and matchplay.

Grand Canyon - We rented a car and have a room booked at the Bright Angel Lodge. We're both looking really forward to this quite a bit. I think we're going to make the 20+ mile drive in the park to Desert View while we're there and check out the typical stuff in the park. We decided to rent a car and go this route because we'd like to take in a sunrise and sunset. We plan to hit the road for the 4 hour trip back to Vegas shortly after sunrise Sunday morning.

Laughlin - The wife isn't as high on Vegas as I typically am, so this was appealing to her. It's a nice compromise, getting out of Vegas on a high-dollar Friday night, but still being able to drink and gamble the night away. From my understanding, it's about 90 minutes out of Vegas but will put us an hour closer to the Grand Canyon. (Side note, just heard the 4:15 alarm go off!! Wife is up!)

Gaming - Planning to play quite a bit of Pai Gow as this is our game of choice and typically let's the bankroll stretch a bit. We'll be low rolling our way round the strip and not focusing play at any specific joint. We'll hit downtown a night or 2 as well. We'll sprinkle in some blackjack, maybe a little Let it Ride, a slot here and there, and I may play a little poker (and hopefully some poke her! Sorry).

Other stuff - As mentioned Red Rock Canyon, Grand Canyon, and Laughlin are in the plans. Red Rock may or may not happen, but if things turn out like we plan, which they never do, we're going to head out there one morning. I am envisioning doing 'stuff' in the mornings like pool, Red Rock, shopping, etc., then getting stupid after late lunches or dinners and starting the drinking and gambling. I want this trip to be relaxing and balls to the wall, all at the same time. I know, I can't have it all. I typically come home from Vegas feeling like I need a vacation from the vacation.

I plan to post random thoughts, updates, and photos (if Tapatalk will let me) during our kid-free belated anniversary trip. I apologize in advance for poor grammar, typos, randomness, incomplete thoughts and so forth.

I was frisked at LAS while stepping out of the body scanner last Wednesday night. "I'm sorry, sir. You have a little bulge in your shorts that I need to pat down."
That did wonders for my self-esteem...

Great pre-TR. I hope you and your wife have a fantastic trip!

I thought Red Rock was a nice diversion for a morning away from the casinos. It's only about 20 minutes away from The Strip and if you aren't doing a ton of hiking, you can be back by lunchtime.

My husband isn't keen on Vegas either, so I go without him. ;) But when we do go together, we do non-casino stuff in the mornings together and then when I want to be playing VP, he will wander, or go see a show.

    Have a great trip!

Lunch! Rental car process through hertz was mostly painless. Not hard upsells.

Offered $20 and asked for resort tower King with volcano view. Ended up with the volcano view portion of my request. 16th floor.

Feels good to be in early for sure. Like Robert Earl Keen says, "It feels so good feelin good again". We have the AC set on 63. Going to go see the Pai Gow situation here, maybe get a bit of gambling in and then maybe go enjoy the pool after that.

Was last in Vegas 3 years ago and it was partially a work trip. The wife did join me the last few nights of it but it's good to be back on my terms.
