I will be down at El Cortez on the Saturday night after Christmas. Is it worth making to Atomic? Will it be crowded?

Okay, let me try something else. Has anyone on the board been to Atomic Liquors?

I would wear a bullet proof vest if you do go. And also bring a gallon jug of hand sanitizer.

Also, if a lady with no teeth comes up to you and asks if you want to go to her apartment and have some fun - think twice.

Savage, my wife and I (50 and 51) went to Atomic in August and enjoyed the place. Arrived on a late Saturday afternoon, had a couple of very nice craft brews, looked at the old signs on the wall as well as local artists and bought an Atomic t-shirt. If you go, check out the antique floor safe that has been covered in Plexiglas and lighted, East side of the bar near the back. They have some old stuff in the safe that was found when it was opened by a locksmith during remodel.

The doorman was just starting to set up for the evening crowd as we were leaving so I asked if it was okay to keep the rental parked in their lot while we hit some other places on East Fremont, no problem. They have a buzzer on the front door to keep out the goofs.

Mixed crowd but no bums, crack addicts or other weirdo's. Would I recommend a single woman walk from El Cortez to Atomic unescorted after dark, no. Was Atomic safe and fun, yes.

I heard Atomic Liquors is a Hipster bar now.

    Damn shame.

Yes... it is worth the very short walk to Atomic. It's no longer in the "dive" category, but not sure I'd put it in the "hipster" category. The new owners spent a chuck of change in the place and it's cool.

Agree with SmartOne, not quite (at least yet) a hipster place. More like a mix between a dive and hipster joint.

Certainly a starting point for a pub crawl. Start early at Atomic and walk to The Griffin, Don't Tell Mama, Beauty and maybe El Cortez for a portion of the Elvis show. Then head to the places under the canopy. Perhaps end at 777?

I'm actually going to the El Cortez specifically for Elvis. Saw nearly the entire show a couple of months ago and loved it. But in case its too busy for us to find a table, I'm looking for an alternative place for some drinks. We're walking from the Golden Nugget.

You know, the Container Park is now open at 7th and will actually provide some added lighting and activity. You really only have two blocks between the two. I think you would be fine.

Been a few times since the remodel. Mixture of folks - wouldn't deem it a hipster bar though you may run into a few. Had a few cocktails and enjoyed the drinks and remodel. They are building an outdoor area as well.

Walk is fine and I concur with smartone, xmarksx and chonglosaxon's recommendation to check it out.

I did end up going about 7pm on a Saturday. It was kind of dead. Had a couple of microbrews and left.

    Walk was no problem.

Savage, did it appear as if it would pick up later in the evening? Not that I want to hit the place on a Saturday, just hopeful they are making money. I like the place.

Could have picked up later, not sure. There were 20 or so patrons when I was there, not a lot for a place that size on a Saturday.
