Sammy Farha, of poker fame, he is at the aria baccarat room ALL the time nowadays apparently, i visit vegas about every 3wks/month. every time i see him there playing, he should probably focus his time sharping up poker lol.

anyways Sammy placed a 5k bet on banker his hands fully lifted off of the chips. Another person places a wager on 'player'.
dealer announced cards coming out, dealers draws cards out of the shoe still face down.
dealer tosses two cards to the person wagering on 'player.
the person holds the cards in his hands cards still face down no one has seen the cards yet.
suddenly Sammy declares he wants to reduce his bank bet to 2k. the dealer freezes while keeping 'bank' cards face down no one has seen the cards.

the pit lady calls the higher rank boss on the phone.

at this point everybody freezes, everyone is perplexed the casino staff is even entertaining his request.

its taking too long, the pit lady tells the 'player' hand he may look at his cards, turns over a 7 (stands no draw)

    'bank' cards still faced down.

Sammy says send anyone but do NOT send "jennifer" apparently sammy thinks Jennifer is a cooler.
Jennifer comes to the table to hear the explanation of events, she instructions 'bank' hand to be revealed: natural 8.

    Sammy is paid 2k.

Is this even possible? is he getting special treatment?

Yes, its possible and yes he's getting special treatment that we would never get. I've played bacc and bj with him. he's an ass to staff and sometimes other players. He practically lives at Aria now. It used to be Bellagio. He gambles like a fiend and is in every tournament MGM International has and is always autoqualified. So, 'm sure they have no problem honoring such requests to keep him donking his $ off their versus elsewhere.

On a smaller level, I've had dealers allow me to bet after calling out last bet with pitt approval. Same thing with betting a last chip or two on the wheel after its been called off and the ball is dropping, it would be different of course if the player had seen his hand.

Interesting. The second ever time I played HL baccarat, it was at the Aria with Sammy at the table. I didn't know who he was, but one of my poker playing buddies told me later. I remember he was drunk off his ass, but very friendly and in a good mood. He kept ribbing me for betting the opposite side of him. I remember being stunned because I was very new to the HL scene and he was betting 3 or 4 yellow chips a hand. I was nervous betting a couple of black chips, lol. I have only seen him at Aria once since then, but I am usually looking for empty tables and not playing close attention to the other gamblers. I will keep an eye out for him now

I guess I dont see the issue...no cards were revieled...soooooo why does it matter if he changed his bet? is it a potential that he saw a corner or something during the deal?

    Collusion with the other player.

OP said the player had the cards in his hands. The casino doesn't know if they're working together and if the other player has had a peak, even though they're still face down. Unlikely, but they're in his hand now and the casino doesn't control them.

That would be my best guess. It's an interesting situation though.
