I am pretty sure that the only smoke free casino in Mississippi is The Palace in Biloxi.

Believe it or not smoking is illegal in Illinois casinos.

One of the worst things to happen to Nevada over the past 20 years was the flood of people moving here, primarily from California. They moved here, we thought, because they liked the wide-open, "live and let live atmosphere", but then they immediately wanted to change Nevada to something that resembled where they came from. It's been a struggle ever since. I know this post was about smoking in Tunica, but it won't be too long before the "do gooders" in our state will save us from ourselves and restrict smoking in Nevada casinos.

BTW... I'm not, nor never have been a smoker and my politics tend to be pretty "left" leaning. I just hate it when people over-legislate things like smoking, sodas, etc. I am somewhat conflicted about employees of casinos though... a non-smoking dealer who has smoke blown in their face all shift long. I suppose one could say, they don't have to work there and that's true, but out here gaming is such a huge part of the employment scene. BTW, our unemployment rate has "dropped" to 11% (lowest in 3 years)... just a few short years ago we were in the 4-5% neighborhood... what a different economic place we've found ourselves!

In Wisconsin, smoking is banned in bars, restaurants, hotels, government buildings etc, but not in the Indian Casinos. OTH, you can only get soft drinks while gambling at SOME of them, such as the biggie in Milwaukee.

Illinois is why I was thinking smoking was banned in more casinos. Vegas too actually-- when I was in Vegas last Dec I don't recall smoking going on at all. Maybe I just didn't notice it, plus the ventilation is better there.

Metropolis IL casino is different because it's on a boat with lower ceilings do the smoke was more of a nuisance.

But I Agree with you Shifter: smoking goes along with gambling do I don't mind it at all. In fact when I smell a cig now I immediately think of gambling! :)

It is gone in Illinois but I like it better that way. The casino is so much cleaner. In Indiana, the casinos seem grimier because of all the ash. Part of me felt like I should be against bans but it's hard to support smokers when you consider that some of their behaviors are pretty rude and wouldn't be tolerated if others did it. As I non smoker, I was sick of seeing stuff like dumping butts and ashes everywhere because you can't find an ashtray, throwing butts on the ground even when receptacles are available, smoking in non smoking section of restaurants, throwing butts out the windows at other cars, etc, etc. It's nice not to have to deal with it anymore.

As for NV, I don't think it's transplants that will cause a smoking ban, it will be the employees. They have been studying the impact of all the second had smoke on dealers and the first report was kinda alarming. No one studied had cancer but it was clear that there were impacts on their health. Sooner or later, someone is going to decide that the health of the employees is more important, especially when you consider who will have to pay the costs of their health care.
