A friend went to Vegas in spring and said a waitress @ MB told her that in City Center and some casinos downtown they no longer give you complimentary drinks while gambling. I find this hard to believe. For low rollers like myself that is one of the best comps in Vegas.

    TY for any info.

Some places, like Wynn, have done away with free drinks while playing VP at the bar. Otherwise it's drinks as usual any place we've been.

At Aria I got comped drinks at the bar by the elevator without playing max coin on VP. I forget the pay table, but I'm sure it sucked but I was shocked at the comped drinks and it happened both times I went there.

I got free drinks while playing my $5 freeplay for signing up for a card at cosmo and a bunch of other nice places.

Maybe they just didnt want to serve your friend.

I don't frequent Downtown, but that is completely false as far as City Center is concerned. I just returned from Vegas and had zero problem - there were cocktail waitresses everywhere I went (not as plentiful as in the past, but still there).

There was no problem whatsoever getting drink service at Aria or Bellagio, and there were also cocktails waitresses working the Encore casino when I was there. Even the off Strip properties like the M Resort had plenty of waitresses making the rounds.

I wonder where these rumors get started? They dont give them away to be nice people, they do it because it benefits them overall.

I can tell you exactly where these rumors get started - a cocktail waitress at Mandalay Bay!

The OP said a friend was "told" by said waitress that there was no drink service at other properties....hmmmm, sounds like a scheme to keep customers playing at MB so she can rack up a lot more tips from regulars.

This is Vegas, and not a podunk place in the Midwest. You gamble, you get a free drink. Tip the waitress of course!

Well, she's nuts then, especially when she threw in "some casino's downtown", any casino downtown that stopped giving away free drinks to gamblers, would be out of business in a month.

I do know that dumps like the wynn dont comp drinks for bartop poker, good for them I guess, of course they do all sorts of strange things, like forcing dealers to share tips with the floor.

You may not agree with some of their policies, but if the Wynn is ANYTHING, it's certainly not a dump.

The Plaza DT has stopped serving anything other than cheap well drinks to even those in the high limit room. An unwise move that will hurt them. I have taken my large (for downtown ) bankroll to other properties. I'm sure others have done the same.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and anyplace that thinks so highly of itself, that they dont comp drinks for bartop poker players...is a dump in my eye.

They're problem is that they really believe that because they can get away with charging 8 - $10 for a drink, that when they give one away, they just comped someone $8, which is of course ridiculous.

5-5 Blackjack. :) They will advertise as 5-5 btw, that looks better than 1-1.
