Are Asian customers comped differently?

We all know Asians have a bigger presence in casinos in the United States than their population percentage. I've seen lots if Asian employees too, many in suits that look like hosts. So I'm wondering if Asians in general, get comped differently than other people? I imagine this may be different from casino to casino, but just a general question

Funny you mention this...as I just got a phone call from a CET host introducing herself as my new host from the Asian dept. I don't use hosts and I'm not a high roller, so it was kind of odd thing and out of the blue.
Beyond my regular offers, this host was able to offer a couple of concerts coming up featuring some popular Asian artists...none of whom I have heard of or interested in...lol.

What I'm guessing that Asians (defined by location or name) may be assigned hosts who have the ability to offer specific offers targeted to them and to offer their services in the language of their choice.
I've also received a number of mailers over the years from different casinos for Chinese NY, concerts, Tourneys, and a fair number of Table Game offers...obviously from the Asian Marketing depts, as they were printed in Chinese and English.
The amounts of freeplay and value seems to be in line with the rest of the regular offers, so I don't think the amount of comps is are different - just more options to draw in the Asian crowd.
They've kind of missed the mark with me, as I'm not a Table Games player and I don't speak Chinese...:rolleyes2:

Ummmmm, no. In fact, that question seems a bit strange. I'm not really sure what you're basing it on. What do you mean by comped "Differently"? More? Less? The marketing toward asians may be different and I think all programs for international players are different (but that is more than just Asian players). Comps are based on how much you gamble.

This is exactly what I mean about being marketed to differently. Excellent post

I agree, good post, thanks. That's what I meant by comped differently. Makes sense that non-Asians wouldn't get offers to Asian singer concerts or Chinese New Year free play offers and the sort. It also makes sense the offers are the same (in terms of free play money), but just in a slightly different format. Maybe something like "Winter free play offer" for everybody but labeled "Chinese new year free play offer" for Asians.

But I am also wondering if there is any racial profiling by casinos. Do they give more or less Free Play to Asian names than non-Asian names? (I am not talking about international customers, I'm talking about Asians located in the uS)

I doubt it. I would that any perceived difference would have to do more with the casino games played than actual racial profilng. Maybe my perception is off but it seems lhe casinos love people who spend a ton of time at baccarat. And for the small cross section of people I know, the folks getting more freeplay play all day and bet more than the minimun doing it.

I don't think Asian players get better COMPs per say and/or better offers, maybe different offers? Cause COMPs are still dependent on ADT/THEO. I'm also Asian, and as Sweetspot mentioned earlier with the concert tickets, Chinese NY, and other related events, I get invites to those also. This past Chinese NY, I got a offer to come to Vegas from CET to get some 24k gold Chinese Zodiacs ornaments. I would assume offers like that only reach the Asian/Chinese folks? I think it's all on the Asian Marketing and how they go about with it. I'm over here on the east coast where I go over to Atlantic City quite often and the Asian Marketing here host tournaments quit often which I don't believe gets advertised to the general public, no mailers or offers. Because it's usually mostly Asians, and you might get that 1-5 non-asian sometimes, but the chances are they are most likely 7 stars with CET, which got an invite from a host. That's from my observation here at least.

You have to really look hard and pay attention to see the Asian marketing if you're not really looking for it. Sometimes I'll stumble on a flyer for an Asian artist performing at midnight at a casino. The shows tend to be very late at night. I've also seen Greek shows advertised at casinos. These advertisements are in Chinese or Greek language so I can only glean a few details. I think the Asians are probably comped differently due to cultural differences. It's not more or less comps overall, just a different way of delivering them.

Look at it from the casinos' perspective: You have a demographic that likes to gamble and has a certain expectation of how they want to be treated. You can either make them adapt to the American way or hire in people that speak their language and know their culture and make them feel right at home. A lot of casinos have Asian rooms. The casinos cater to their clientele.

They also like to assign Asian players with Asian hosts.

I would guess that casinos might be more willing to aggressively provide upfront comps to Asian players from overseas. The difference in gaming vs non gaming revenue in Macau might be good justification for this.

They used to offer discounts exclusively to Asian players. They don't do this any longer though.

im Chinese and born in california, I cannot read the characters except for scattered ones on menus and basic things.

I do get extra mailers from CET and V/P for Chinese related events. Usually concerts and tourneys from "an Asian" marketing team at both. Ive contacted the V/P ones and they are true hosts, but the CET ones seem to be more like marketers.

I have a few hosts at the various properties, but non are Asian. Probably because English is my primary language. I don't feel hosts do anything extra/special for different ethnicities, a friendship is more important.

    FK

I wonder if Japanese/Korean clients get their own specific marketers/hosts also.

My guess is, yes! I am chinese, but my last name is often viewed as Korean, by casinos. I often get mailers, in Korean, for Korean concerts and such, which I can't even read...not that I can read Chinese either...lol.

I've heard that Asian gamblers are more superstitious when it comes to numerology than others. Anyone have any insight into that angle?

That's true. Lots of the Asian games if you noticed is missing the 4th seat. They actually don't list it and skip it. It'll go from 1,2,3, and then 5. 4 in Chinese means death.

8 is a lucky number for the Chinese specifically I think.

I work In the telecoms industry and the number 8 is requested constantly for business phone numbers etc. I've seen 8 and 18 getting lumped on in roulette at my home casino as well.

I don't think Asian players are comped differently. The marketing for Asian players is different (concerts, CNY, etc.). I know my local casinos have Asian concerts all the time and send free tickets and rooms to Asian players.

I think the stereotype for Asians gambling is like African-Americans dominating sports. Not all gamble, but a lot do.

Many top tier (MIT, Caltech, etc.) science and engineering grad programs have many Asians enrolled. Some ethnic fellowships, workshops, etc. exclude Asians just like Caucasians.
