These days I only go to Vegas for business trips. I like it, but the world is big and there are still too many places I haven't yet traveled to spend all my money and time in Vegas. I don't get into the habit of going back to the same place over and over again since I like to explore new spots.

Except Asheville, NC. I really like to get there once a year or so.....I call it retirement research though ;-)

My problem is that I'm fickle. :) I like the beach, mountains, prairies, deserts, etc. I just love moving and seeing and experiencing new places.

My husband is kind of "over" Vegas for the last decade or so. We take trips together to places like Oregon Coast (where we have some favorite places), British Columbia, Idaho, Bend/Sunriver, etc. I love to visit my parents on the central coast of California. Mostly I just like to curl up in a chair on their back patio and enjoy the BIG VIEWS of the coastal range. (although I'd have picked the lot across the street with the view of the Guadalupe Dunes and the ocean beyond)

I think I'd be sad if I only could choose one vacation destination. I know my husband would because Vegas is non-negotiable. :)

We try to tread a line between enjoying stuff we enjoy and not getting caught in the same-old, same-old rut. We have a few friends who do the exact same stuff every single vacay. They always rationalize it by saying "we know it because we enjoy it and we enjoy it because we know it." To which I always point out there was a first time for whatever specific locale that is, when they didn't know it or know they enjoy it, and there are many other such opportunities and experiences out there they haven't tried to know or enjoy.

    Life is TOO short.

We certainly have a tally of Vegas appearances, a number we could rationalize -- yep, we all do it -- for a good period of time since a lot of it went directly into my work. Now we haven't done a two-of-us getaway to Vegas in nearly four years though I've been through several times for quick stops/stays. (I may have just picked up a new client and if so we'll need to start heading that way a bit more frequently, and Terri said last night she's looking forward to getting there again soon-ish.)

As to the specific question: We're in Hawaii mode, big time. We get over there once, often twice a year. Our 2015 trip is going to be Europe for, hopefully, three weeks. We also do a lot of shorter tripettes -- Tahoe/Reno and the Sierra, Arizona, the PNW, Mexico (rare these days), So Cal, the Bay Area, Napa/Sonoma -- annually. Going in to mid-July it's a rotation of La Quinta, Banff/Jasper (me), Carmel/Monterey (me), Carlsbad (Terri) and Truckee/Northstar. Then in August I'm off to Bandon, PDX and Bend, then Terri is flying in to SEA and I'll drive up from Bend and grab her, then we're off to Victoria, and Seattle for a few days routing back south. Now our FAVE spot is New Zealand. By far. We're also partial to Australia. Those are rare excursions -- four, five, six years between visits. Work takes me to the south every two or three years. We do NOT get to NYC often enough!

Gambling is not important to our vacay needs; we really enjoy playing some when we are in Nevada, otherwise, nada.

I go to MLB Spring Training every year alternating between FL and AZ and I much prefer that to Vegas. Usually a handful of other destinations that come up now before Vegas for me.

Isn't this thread going to be considered blasphemous on the board? LOL

We love Vegas but we also love to travel to the many destinations that are in close proximity to Vegas. Our modus operandus is to fly to LV and spend a week or so traveling around CA, NV, UT and AZ. We have pretty much stopped going out of the country and focused instead on the good ole USA. So much to see and do.

Depends how far I want to go and what I want to do. However, I like Thailand, Miami, and most of S. America. :wink2:

I go on holiday 3-4 times a year, with this year Indonesia (March) USA(Sept) and Curacao (Dec),so I like to mix it up a little bit, but the Dutch Antilles (Aruba,Curacao,Bonaire) are always a favorite destination of mine!

We MUST have our LV fix twice a year. Yes, we can take a trip to the beach & enjoy but if nothing going on in the area at nite, we are wishing for slot machines...lol. Next year we may forego one of our LV trips to take the great-grandson (who will be 4...almost 5) to WDW. Haven't been there since 1998 with 4 grandkids. He will keep us busy so we hopefully don't miss "our place" that much.....lol :)

I own 3 weeks of timeshare in Aruba and have been travelling there for almost 25 years. I'd take Aruba over Vegas any time!!

Agree, and Aruba has Casinos as well, and beautiful beaches on top of that, best of both worlds

I prefer New Orleans. I can get my gambling jones at Harrah's on Canal St., earn my CET points, and then be in a more culturally significant city than Vegas once I leave the casino. (Great jazz, great food, beautiful neighborhoods accessible by streetcar, etc.)

Like Vegas, don't make the wrong turn down the wrong street.

    Amsterdam got casinos too!

My other favorites (not above Vegas though) include
New Orleans during Mardigras (6 timer)
    Louisville during Kentucky Derby
New York during US Open Tennis
    London during Wimbledon

Wife and I are going to Playa del Carmen for a beach vacation and the end of the month. Never been there before, looking forward to some fun in the sun and taking in the local vibe.

The city in Thailand that restaurant is undoubtedly named after.
