After several weeks of rumors and a couple of lawsuits I was informed yesterday that The Act in Palazzo was closing. So after one of the investors said tonight is the last night, now it is officially closed. The acts were getting to sexy and people complained. There is more to, but it will come out soon enough.

I have never been there or seen it, but why the did people complain? If you don't like a place, theme or atmosphere - don't go into it.

Very true, but have you just met the American pubic? We're full of whiners and complainers and we're good at small numbers of people deciding what's best for all the others... it's what we do.

it is sad, and I don't know who was complaining if it was just the investors didn't like it. They were getting some negative publicity and the lawsuit about the nudity . I have known Mr Adelson since before he purchased Sands and I know his crew wouldn't just shut it down, it was more to it , like publicity factor. I was asked to come down on Friday afternoon and I new about it then. they want some old school classy place, but they know it wont make the money a club can bring. I said take the spot over and put a nice high end humidor or whiskey/bourbon bar. the thing is with all these big money clubs you have to have a fresh idea now, not something that will hit in 6 months. we shall see

If you actually believe that's why its closing, then I have a bridge to sell you. They run these same clubs here in NY and elsewhere and they do fine. I've been to immersion theater performances over here like Sleep No More which are incredibly lewd and graphic but also popular with everyone from tourists, to hipsters, to the upper crust for being good performance pieces. And this is Vegas we're talking about, where prostitution is practically legal and advertised on every billboard. You don't even need the "art" factor to operate anything lewd.

Someone posted a story about this place once before and that Sands execs thought the performances were going overboard and they wanted to get rid of it. There's probably more to it than that, but even they didn't try to blame the public. It gives cranky people a good straw man to beat on though by making that assumption.

That would be me he's referring to, though in a more covert way, so his post doesn't get pulled AGAIN for attacking another member.

    Whiskey

Hate to see Vegas establishments close.

I do like Roberts idea of Vegas needing a true whiskey/bourbon bar. Have not seen one in a long time but they are really nice.

I have pitched a couple of casinos on doing a nice bourbon room, but theres just no way it would draw the money a club can. I have told places, you want a club you get a younger party crowd, and that's your money. A high end lounge/bourbon room/humidor would have to have a lot of money backing it.
maybe in a few years. We are working on contracting a few of the concierge's booths middle of next year and maybe some things might spin off that. maybe one day you will see Infinity Management Group.

I really hate to see that one close. I really enjoyed the place when we were there in June. I was dissapointed when I heard their lease was being threatened because they were being accused of being too lewd. I didnt see anything that shocked the senses while we were there, but we left by 1am, I heard it gets crazier as it goes on.

I would love a new high-end lounge/cigar bar in Vegas.

    Robert,

Do you think ACT will find another home somewhere else?

The old Krave building is a great place to discuss. Not sure what the Act guys are planning. The old Cathouse spot is ok, but you got LAX right there. The issue is Palazzo is a higher end casino, and The act is a place for a younger crowd, I think either of the 2 mentioned venues would be good. I have been trying to get investors on my concept to get in at the old Krave place. you never know.

Krave would be awesome, that would eliminate the higher ups complaining. I still cannot believe Cathouse even closed, let alone nothing good has replaced. I used to love starting there before hitting LAX.

the concept would have to work around a lounge opening at 2 pm with a couple of different venues in their so you have a nice edm mix, and a live music side. Cheaper bottle prices and not have so many managers and hosts. nobody is really catering to the 40+, so if you had live band or 80-90s music that would help with that. I mean people would still pay $200 a bottle but you need a big place to move people in and out. I say 2 shifts of employes 2-10 and 10-6, that's great for a lounge nightclub.

i actualy posted the original story. first the club was modeled after a club in nyc called the box.they new what they where getting when let them become tenants.

theres a lot more but i got in trouble from admin before so ill stay clear of the subject ,but the bad press didnt help the hotel but helped the niteclub.

they should have done it in a free standing space. the act was a totaly differnt nite out in vegas for the good.

they spent millions to build it to bad

I know one of the operators of The Act well.

Their relationship with Sands executives has always been very sour. In fact they didn't complete their entire agreement until months after they opened and the situation was extremely tense.

Their was an internal conflict at Sands as well where many executives didn't think the club's style was appropriate and they wanted something more high brow in that space.

As the relationship worsened Sands was looking for ways to end the arrangement. They decided to use the argument that the actions at the club could be grounds for the gaming board to fine the company or at worst pull it's gaming license.

This would be unlikely since their legal counsel already signed off on the deal originally. The club has since gathered additional legal opinions that they aren't running afoul of any gaming regulations.

This fight continued with a litany of threats from Sands alleging violations of their agreement. Eventually both parties agreed to part ways.

I really like your concept, I think the 40 plus crowd is an untapped gold mine. I am 39 and travel with others my age. We frequent tier 3 clubs like LAX because there are more people our age and the music is more to our liking. I think the idea of a multi venue is excellent, let the EDM crowd help support the other genres and vice versa.

This board is proof that lots of 40 something and even 50 somethings still want to hit "da club"! ha!

normally we do about 60 groups a week and more than half are over 35. Foundation room and Pure are getting most of our groups right now. the biggest thing is trying to get a venue that has 2 or even 3 separate rooms that doesn't have a balcony level like the Act has. it would be bad if it had a separate room to play some other genres of music. I really like the setup of Hakkasan, but they are catering to tables and EDM. Bagatelle is a venue I really like as well, make a nice higher end bar food with that lounge feel, but I asked if we could take the patio and down the steps and have it fenced off, NOPE. the biggest issue with casinos and clubs is that the casino does no promoting of the club. I think if a casino has a high roller then the casino should comp bottles, so at least the club makes money. This system now is horrible.

im sure there aren't many people wanting to build a club right now. I think they need to let the new wear off of Hakkassan and Light. these casinos are in no hurry to fill these empty spots.
