Sorry, was just going to bump the last thread but the topic was closed.

So not a fan of seafood in general. But I do love shrimp. Especially with lots of cocktail sauce, horseradish, and lots of lemon. Now I do know that a lot of people line up for the buffets just for the seafood and desserts. But do I justify standing in a line of 20 to 30 people picking through crab legs, oysters, etc, when all I want is 15-20 shrimp?! And I'm talking about piles of shrimp behind the counter. And I would probably come back until they replenish that allowing the heard in line their share.

So what's cool guys? Wait in line for 20 shrimp, or make my way to the shrimp, pile what I want on my plate and head back to the table? Also, do you ask the person before the dish you'd like to sneak on your plate, if it's OK if you grab a few before them ?

IMHO, if your line-jumping requires interrupting the line, then you should wait in line. If you wait out of the way til you can get in without disturbing the line, then line-jump.

Yes. I agree. I'm not going to stand there and build a salad, or pick through the oysters with only the ones I think "look good" (so many people pick and chose). I'll go up, grab something, and select what qualifies at my seat.

Not sure which buffet you are going to ...but FYI many buffets have shrimp that have not been peeled. This is a big peeve of my dh. He doesn't want to fight for his food.

Lots of buffets do not have lines as such, but stations that you can enter and leave without disturbing anyone.

Correct, such as Bacchanal. Tons of peeled, large delicious shrimp, you can just walk up and load up.

Lines are at cafeterias not at buffets.

The only time you wait at a buffet is if someone is serving themselves from the food that you want.

    Otherwise, buffets are a free-for-all.

Spot on! However if there is a short line....wait. Would you want someone to cut in front of you? Good question.

Ya lines at a Buffett really annoy me. I don't want one of everything, I want what I want. My rule is that if no one is handling the food I want, I just dive right in and serve myself. If anyone says anything, I no longer speak English. Learned this from a thanksgiving Buffett years ago at Harrahs. It was one solid line from the salad plates out to the dessert. I mostly ate salad that day because I couldn't stand waiting any longer

If it's obvious that there are people waiting to serve themselves a particular dish, just jumping in is rude asshole-ish behavior
