After weekend yard and patio projects I was able to get over to La Purisima for nine late yesterday afternoon. Jekyll and Hyde got nuthin' on me:

    Par-double-par-triple-par-double-par-triple-par.

5 pars is good. Triples are bad. Very bad.

Come on out, Snide. At La Purisima triples are pretty standard. There was a hot-shot young player from Brisbane out recently for a mini-tour event, US Open qualifying and the Can Tour q school and he had one round below 80.

That's my game. Feast/famine. Consistency is milquetoast, boring, anyway. We're Americans, volatility rules.. I'd rather be nine over on three holes than shoot nine bogeys. (I actually did that once -- hell, probably more than once -- at the Dye Course at MHCC. Six pars, three trips.

I can make enough triples at home. No need to travel 3000 miles for that. Played last week. Hit 3 different trees on one hole and made a par. I hate trees.

I don't know. We're playing Sandpiper on Sunday. Pretty place. And the oil hasn't reached that far east!!! Several prime trip options at 'piper.

To answer the question, we play golf for that one pure moment, be it a drive, approach, chip or putt, that is as good as anyone in the world could do it. The rest of the round may suck shit, but that one beautiful shot, it makes you come back every time.

Hitting it on the screws is cool. For me, I think because it is so glory/goat/glory/goat that makes me love it. And it's an awesome social pursuit -- two hours or four hours with friends -- and in most places the scenery doesn't exactly suck, either.

I know we've established similarities in our scoring patterns before, Ken, but it's uncanny. Me today: 5 over on 14 holes, 14 over on the other four. Ugh. These blow-up holes are killing me.

It's crazy, my friend. It was like I had the even-numbered-hole shanks. lol On two and six I hit perfect drives ... boom, bam, crater.

Yeah, same goes with me. My handicap comes from the 4-5 holes a round that I crater, the rest of the holes are around even par, or close to it.

I think the Jekel-Hyde thing is synonymous with golf.
I played Wynn last week with a friend of mine who was 3 under over 14 holes and 8 over the other 4.
When I do it it seems to be a lot more exasperating if I screw up at the end of the round.
And, of course, depending on how much money it costs me.

I've already had 2 CHIP IN's !!!!!! from about the same yardage --
10-12 yds off the green.........pin in the middle of the green.
That would be my TOTAL from all of last year !
    *
    Last round :
    I called "Hole in One" just before I swung ( 170 yd = par 3 )
    I put it 10 ft from the cup -- ( at least, I CALLED IT ! )
Then, missed the putt..............of course !

Golf is an evil temptress, a fickle mistress. I can go out, toss in two or three birdies, yet the overall score really doesn't change. As a wise one noted, we're defined by our blowups not our few bright shining moments. I had three birdies at Pebble once and barely broke 100. Last year I tossed up a 78 at the club and I don't know that I had more than one birdie, maybe two. I had four through 13 holes at Avila Beach last year and nearly as many Xs -- we cruised in after hitting #14 owing to the glacial pace. I seldom go a round without at least one birdie but then I also can play 18 and maybe sniff no more than a few pars.

    Heroin.

Less expensive. Less destructive. Less addictive.

    Interesting point.
Years ago I had 4 birdies at Pelican North and shot 80.
2 weeks later no birdies and I shot 78.
It's like sometimes I can play 2 or 3 shoes and no blackjacks but big wins and 1 shoe with 3 bjs and big losses.

Gambling or golf: Seeking patterns in the chaos ... they don't exist.

And that's why there is GA. Maybe there needs to be a second GA.
