    From his Facebook page:

    Johnathan Szeles
Last night I had dinner with the guy in charge of operations of The Plaza and the Las Vegas Club. I though he was going to ask me to remove The Screamont Experience, the Haunted House I built last year. It wasn't. Instead he asked me to redesign the entire casino. He wants me to make it "FUN!" Just when you think you're retired from Vegas they give you a casino to redesign. This is going to be a blast because I LOVE that place and I've already done this job in my head 100 times. Now watch this shit!

Not that it matters to me right now, but I recently tried to determine if his haunted house remained open, and couldn't find anything to suggest it did.

The hotel towers need as much work as the casino, but you gotta start somewhere. If Golden Gate can run a small, successful casino, I'm pretty sure VC can do it, too.

So, which way do you go: young and hip or gambler friendly? Do you ramp up the sex appeal and attract the party crowd the D covets on its main floor or do you go back to the days of "world's most liberal blackjack" and other rules to bring in a consistent gambling crowd that enjoys an upbeat atmosphere while not getting screwed at every spin/roll/deal?

I'm guessing that if the goal is to make if fun then the emphasis won't be on making it the best gamblin' joint on Fremont.

I know 10 things I'd do if it were up to me.

I have to wonder how this idea will pan out. Plaza/LVC just severed their relationship with another comedian, Anthony Cools, who was behind the failures of Swingers Club, The Drink, Exposed Salon, and the showroom, which is still closed. And Jonathan just left Bally's after a bitter dispute, which is where Anthony Cools spent the summer while his Paris showroom was being renovated. This all seems quite odd.

Did they also ask Amazing Jonathan to make some money magically appear to fund the renovations? I thought these guys were on the balls of their a**?

LVC and the Plaza definitely need some help, but maybe they should stop hiring comedians to make it "fun" and hire someone with some experience running a succesful casino.

+1. Unfortunately, I'm not sure there are any more Benny Binion's or Jackie Gaughan's.

The best thing this group could possibly do to improve their success and cash flow would be expediting the re-opening of The Western.
Its loyal (albeit small) cult following miss the gritty Western tremendously and would be there with cash in hand if they opened it up.

    From today's Las Vegas Sun:

While speaking of properties owned by Tamares, and of individuals named Johnathan, a Facebook post by the eminent Amazing Johnathan caused something of feather ruffle this week. This bears examination: A.J. wrote a post on his Facebook wall saying he was excited about a new venture at Las Vegas Club, in which he was being charged with redesigning the entire casino floor. A.J. met Saturday with (Jonathan) Jossel (of Tamares), in which the two did talk of casino design, and soon after the meeting, A.J. wrote that post. He also reiterated his new role at the hotel in a phone conversation Tuesday.

But as it happens, officially, formally, the all-but-retired comic magician has not been retained to do any design work at the casino. There is no confirmation of him working in an official capacity at L.V. Club. A.J. does have a relationship with Tamares with his Screamont Street Experience haunted house and has a sharp eye, and acute passion, for casino design. But what really needs to happen here is for the two Johnathans to agree on what’s been agreed upon in relation to any plans for the design of Las Vegas Club.

The Vegas Club is a sports themed casino. Why not put in the biggest and best sports book downtown. There really isn't a decent sports book anywhere downtown. It hurts me to see what has become of the Vegas Club. Years of neglect and poor mangement have taken a toll. I will say that the employees are friendly and honest. If Tammares is not going to run the Plaza and Vegas Club in a professional manner than sell the properties to someone who will. I am glad they are at least going to try something but I have no confidence in the management at these propertes.
