OK so I splurged for the 2 bd Penthouse at Vdara for 8/7-9 (mlife upgraded me to Hospitality suite FTW)
and they emailed me about the free limo details this morning...

I asked if the lines for check-in would be long on a Thursday afternoon?
they said with the conventions and Justin Timberlake concert?, yeah I'd have to wait quite a while

so I dropped $50 more to get VIP check-in, am I crazy or smart?

my cousin is visiting from Europe, so I kinda want to blow his mind with high-roller vegas treatment (and myself TBH:beer:)

I vote both! Hey, if I had the funds to do it, I would! And the older I get, the more convenience I want.

You work hard in your life - treat yourself!

yeah the Mlife price was 50% off, so why not live a little right?
plus $25 each for curbside (limoside?) check-in just sounds cool to me
and after the upfront cost what is $25 in the scheme of things?

    No kidding.

I just booked a flight from HNL to the mainland. A $150 f-c upgrade was available, $100 net since two bags are free. Didn't bat an eye. Twenty bucks an hour not to sit in steerage, somewhat real free food, definitely real free drinks, free entertainment. Life is way too short to chisel over every dime.

You only live once. Have the best time in Vegas that you can. Ive done both frugal(younger days) and splurge and I prefer the latter.

My motto is, as long as you aren't spending money you need for food, or a roof over your head, or your kid's college fund, there is nothing wrong with a nice splurge now and then. As long as I'm not having to charge it and pay interest on top of the cost, I like to treat myself from time to time too.

yeah this trip was saved for in extra cash for last 6 months, we live a cash based life here at home
so while this stay will be on the CC, I'll pay it off before I even check out

we used to go with another couple each summer and invariably the day of checkout they were in their suite calling 2 or 3 CC companies
to float their portion of the hotel, wtf?...we planned this 6 months ago and it was casino rate, how can you not budget
when one is an attorney and the wife makes 6 figures?

shocking how bad most high income people are with money mgmt

The older I get the more I indulge in comforts and luxuries that I would have scoffed at as a younger man. Maybe its experience, maybe its just age and you begin to actually take a mental note of how few of opportunities come around to truly relax and indulge.

No I am with you, spending money on things that others may consider frivolous is fine. For my Vegas trip next week I originally booked 2 one way flights. The outbound (from JFK) was free using credits from a prior flight I didn't end up taking. The return I paid for on JetBlue. Well here is the rub, the (free) outbound flight was on Spirit Air and had a 5 hour layover in Chicago that if it got in on time, and it is a big IF given Spirit, got into Vegas at around 6pm. Coming from the East coast that didn't leave much time to do anything the first day once I got to the hotel, checked in etc. I was dreading the flight out, given the layover, when it got in and the fact that is was Spirit.

I said screw it and ended up buying a one way ticket for the flight out, direct on Virgin America in main cabin select. Now I am looking forward to, ok maybe not looking forward to but not dreading the flight out. 5+ hours total trip time vs. 12 hours, Virgin vs. Spirit, arrive at 1 pm vs. 6 pm, TV on Virgin vs. nada on Spirit. I told a friend of mine what I did and he thought it was the stupidest thing ever to waste a free flight. But he is a guy whose goal in life is to pay as little as possible for everything.

As others have said, life is too short.

Yep... I like to think of those as another nice memory that will make me smile when I'm retired and sitting in the rocking chair on the porch.

yeah, I'm cheap with most stuff but live very well...I see friends and family weekly or monthly overpay for things
they think are important then turn around and are aghast at something like this trip

dude?, didn't I just not go eat out 3 nights a week for months (like you do?) AND loan you money to cover car repair or a mortgage payment?

    but I'm "the idiot"

I think I could do $100 worth of damage to food and booze on a 5 hour flight. That's a huge score!

What's wrong with spoiling yourself. It sounds great! I keep meaning to try Vdara, but haven't yet. Please do a trip report when you get back! Have a wonderful trip.
