We're getting one last stay at Makena Resort before it goes away this summer. We, the public, already lost the golf course with Discovery taking everything private, and a boutique resort village is supposedly going to arrive at some point, but we'll miss a place we love. Beautiful beach, solid resort with no haughtiness, Wailea-close but just far enough south not to be a zoo.

Kinda ironic that lyrical sentiment as there is a somewhat famous sight in Lahaina lamented by the Eagles.

Not condos. Discovery Land does UBER high-end lifestyle developments. They bought Makena proper a few years ago.

    From Wiki...

Joni Mitchell said this about writing the song to journalist Alan McDougall in the early 1970s:

I wrote 'Big Yellow Taxi' on my first trip to Hawaii. I took a taxi to the hotel and when I woke up the next morning, I threw back the curtains and saw these beautiful green mountains in the distance.
Then, I looked down and there was a parking lot as far as the eye could see, and it broke my heart... this blight on paradise. That's when I sat down and wrote the song.

And all this time I thought the song was about a Hamburger joint in LA!

Ooh, now I want to put those songs on a new playlist. What else should be on it? :headbang:

The Eagles song I referenced is the closer on Hotel California, "The Last Resort."

Duh. I grew up listening to the Eagles (and Joni Mitchell) Child of 2 musicians - one of them a flower child:thumbsup: I have extremely varied & eclectic musical tastes.

I know how you feel. I remember when they closed the Seaside Heights Motel 6.

    HoyaHeel - she knows everything.

JOKE. Serious joke. I know a lot of trivia. And a lot of musical lyrics. But nothing current. If it's on the radio now, I won't know it (it kills my husband that I know gossip about people whose music I'm completely unfamiliar with. Ah well)
