Some friends of mine are spending a week at MGM Grand looking for entertainment, food, fun, transportation, and more! at frugal prices.

Background: They're both 30. Neither cares about gambling. They both like drinks, dancing, music, good food, and open to more suggestions for a couple that age.

I've told them to spring for a cab to/from the airport to MGM then buy 3 days passes on the SDX/Duece to get up and down the strip and to downtown. (not sure if I should make a separate post in getting there/getting around for this)

    All suggestions welcome.

    Thank you very much.

Definitely do a taxi to and from the airport: its only like $10-12
For food at MGM: I highly recommend Wolfgang pucks restaurant in MGM-- they will get high end food without breaking the bank.
I wouldn't go too crazy on the bus for the strip. I would suggest they bring walking shoes and walk the strip. Its feb and the weather will be nice enough to walk around without getting heat exhaustion. Then do the bus just to go downtown on the cheap.
If they really are that frugal and they don't gamble much, drinking at the bars and paying for drinks is gonna be expensive. If they go 2 blocks up there is an ABC store, they can pick up some drinks for the room so they can pre-game before they go out.

Only a warning for them verses any suggestion I could offer.

If they seldom gamble, yet like to drink, they'd better bring more money or be prepaired to adjust the drinking downward. Drinks of any kind are very costly to just walk up to a bar and order one.

My #1 suggestion to your friends. Get them to come here and read posts from the past month or so. (not just the first page). They do not even have to get an account to read stuff. Read food, entertainment, etc.

#2 Suggestion - Encourage them to walk from casino to casino. Make it a day.

    # 3 Suggestion - see #1

As to the cab from airport - why wouldn't they just take a cab? I surely do not see that as "springing for it".

    BUS PASS for the Strip.

Going from and to the airport use a Cab, and warn them about the tunnel, and SPECIFY Swenson to Trop going to MGM, and Trop to Paradise returning to airport. Inform them, when the cabbie asks... first time in Vegas? They say nooooooooooo!

If they get tired of walking or it get s too cold, take the bus.

PLUS..... have them go to maps.google.com

When you zoom in (enough) on the Las Vegas Strip, it will easily show the locations of all the bus stops. I suggest they do some printouts of this and carry it around so they always know where the stops are at.

For a first timer this is very helpful. For example:

You are at PHo bus stop and want to ride up do Bally's. Nooooope! For after the stop at Paris, it goes alllllllllllllllllllll they waaaaaaaaaaaaaay up to Harrahs!

Next, they drink allot but do not gamble. That is going to cost them big time! Most (not all) of the cheap drinks are gone as part of the New Vegas Corporate Strip concept. I suggest they learn how to play 5c (25c a wack) VP (JOB or BP). Even with crappy pay tables a $10 can go for awhile.

But did you say this February? If so, no time to buy a VP trainer and learn, so forget that idea.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe people can chime in (or better yet create a new post) of the drink specials on the strip.

Is there something like $2 Michelob's at Casino Royal?

Does Bally's at the Tequila bar have a tequila shot special?

Check Groupon Frequently for shows, spa, and food deals, and get yourself an ACG.

Tell them if they want free drinks, sit at a slot machine and bet 1 cent. Just make sure you tip the CW so she comes back.
