As anticipated, TMs numbers were off rather significantly and at least these first cuts were absorbed by the Adams side of the family. Adidas appears eager to dump the golf side of the megacorp but the question is who would or could write the check? Is this how UnderArmour gets into the golf equipment biz? A friend of mine wrote Adams is well situated as a candidate to tell the USGA to eff off relative to the equipment standards, and there is some logic to that. Someone is going to do it one of these days, every OEM has toys in the closet that exceed the limits, but none of the huge publicly traded houses yet is willing to run the risk. Ely (and Arnie) certainly backed away from it when they were king and court in the hierarchy. But the time is coming and a second-tier brand with decent name equity -- Top-Flite/Spalding? -- like Adams could be it.
