    My Trip Report

Counting down the minutes until we leave for DTW to head out there. I have been before back in 2009 but my partner has not. She never even really gambled until she met me..haha

This was definitely a last minute trip. I posted on here a few times before I went back in 09 but lost my log-on:rolleyes2: We are in the process of buying a house and with work being a zoo we decided to get out of town for a few days and Vegas was the only place I knew to relax completely. It also doesn't hurt that it's been 60 degrees there and it's 10 here (we live just outside of Detroit).

We are staying at the Super 8 next to Ellis Island. From what I've heard the reviews are decent. I would like to be on the strip but free airport shuttle and us not being afraid to walk a little made that decision pretty easy. I also have wanted to go to Ellis Island for a while. I love the smaller casinos and the steak special seems too good to pass up. Last time I went I stayed at the El Cortez. I enjoyed it and called them up to see if they had anything available to be comped but turns out I didn't spend as much as I thought the last time I was there:ssst: I adored Downtown though and with the $50 free play from flying spirit at the D I can't pass up a trip down there first.

We are on a pretty tight budget from some of the other bankrolls I have seen. $100 a day for food and gambling. AHHH I know. We are flying in Friday night and leaving early Tuesday morning. Here is the thing though. We are really going to gamble. Don't get me wrong. We are going to sign up for every players card we can get our hands on and with our ACG coupons, the free play at the D, the slotplaycoupon.com Palms special and other noob specials we will decently entertain ourselves I'm not worried about bankrupting Vegas. Our plan is if get up a little (a little in our standards is 20-30 bucks most) go eat go do something that we want to do on it and come back if we want. Honestly, I am going to drink and be in awe of the almighty Vegas lights and try to forget home inspections, appraisals, loan documents and what med goes into a Cardiac Cath Postop order set (I'm in Health IT).

I will post as we go along. Let the countdown begin!!!! Our flight leaves at 7:50 Friday night!

That's meant to say *not* really going to gamble...Apparently that early in the morning I lose grasp of the English language.

You're going to have a good time. The area around Ellis island is a little sketchy looking at night, but I've walked around there quite a bit at all times of the day and have never had any problem. The only encounters I had were a homeless guy asking me for a cigarette and a working lady checking on how bored/lonely I was.

There is so much to do in Vegas besides gambling. Walk around, drink some $1 tall cans of bad beer, admire the lights, eat good for cheap, etc. Some things I recommend:

Free strip attractions: volcano at the Mirage, Sirens at TI, lions at MGM (oh wait... :grrr::grrr:), wildlife exhibit at Flamingo, plays inside the Venetian, etc.

Free Casino Royale slots! You can win BOGO beer or margarita coupons, $50-500 free slot play (not all it's cracked up to be--set your expectations low!), or a $5 match play for table games. The slots are right in front of the casino. They tell you that you can only play once a day, but just space your tries out and you'll get a few in. The best prize, IMO, is the match play.

$1 Michelobs and margaritas at Casino Royale. Combine this deal with the free slot BOGO coupons for a great deal.

For food, make sure to get the Ellis Island steak deal. It's really good, especially for the price. Also check out restauraunt.com deals. They'll sometimes have $50 certificates for only $4 or so.

For cheap gambling on the strip, I recommend Hooters, Casino Royale, Circus Circus, and Riviera.

Have a good time and good luck :drunk:

It's great that you stay within your means

Or at least what you feel comfortable with spending. The old adage "Bet with your head, not over it" is great advice. Have fun.

    Have fun, monczkia!

I heard that the $1 margaritas are GONE from Casino Royale!

    Someone confirm or deny!

Sadly, I can confirm that there is a Fat Tuesday out front of Casino Royale and no dollar margaritas inside. :(

    Nooooo!!!!

Oh well. I have a lot of 2 for 1 drinks from the ACG book. I spent 2 hours yesterday making a cheat sheet of new player signups and organized my coupons. My poor partner. She looked at me like I was nuts when she put the Palms coupon in the downtown pile and I nicely corrected her:nono: I think she is in for a real treat. Little less than 36 hours to go!

Not sure if you got all the signup bonuses on your cheatsheet, but make sure you have Tropicana which has a really good one ($200). Also, Hooters ($100) and Cosmo ($100).

Cosmo is loss rebate (lose 100 get another 100 in freeplay). The other 2 are freeplay for signing up with their player's card. For Trop, get 100 the first day, 50 if you come back the next day, then 50 more if you come back again the next day. Hooters is the same as Trop except half the freeplay. And they are right next to each other.

Ahhh today is the day. With a fresh 4.5 inches of snow here in Detroit, I am itching to get out of here. Bag's are packed, money is secured, and now I just have to make it through a work day (at least I'm working from home today). Our flight leaves at 7:53PM tonight but we plan to be at the airport pretty early. Flying makes me extremely anxious and getting there and knowing where I am going within the airport and being at the gate calms my nerves a bit, so we will probably head over to the airport around 4:30 (takes about 20 minutes to get there) then we have to park and be shuttled to the terminal.

Watched Vegas Vacation last night and got excited. Even though that movie is over 12 years old I still love it. Wayne Newton is my old man crush...ahhhh:nworthy:

Plan to post at the end of everyday or when we get a break. I'm no high roller remember, but I'm sure I will have some stories about our low-roller gambling and shenanigans:drunk:

    Have a great time!
Don't forget to add Wynn/Encore to your freeplay list. New members get $10 freeplay just for signing up. Last month my buddy won $800 on his $10 freeplay at Wynn. Beginners luck!

Have a great time in Vegas! Hubby and I are originally from the Detroit area, so we know how it is to want to get away from the snow! :) We love downtown Vegas ~ we normally stay at Main Street Station when we go ~ rooms are really reasonable there. You might want to check it out for the future. Good luck!!

    We are here #1

We are here!! Got in last night around 9:30PM and got off the plane and had our bags within 10 minutes. Airport was not crowded at all. The flight in was okay but Spirit is CRAMPED. The wife and I were in the second to last row and had a large drugged woman beside me who was on the aisle. Of course I got the middle and proceeded to have the worst backache of my entire life for the next 4 hours. Wife lost $15 dollars on the plane or airport by pulling her phone out of her pocket (great start dear:Þ).

The shuttle to the Super 8 was fast and efficient. That's about all the words I can use to describe it. The shuttle driver made no small talk and I think barely looked at us. Oh well, it was free and I dig free so fine with me. We checked in our room rather quickly and headed up to the third floor. The room is small but efficient. I think the Wynn or Venetian probably has nicer bathrooms than our room but not the point. I don't come to Vegas to sit in my room and stare at the lamp or stucco walls. We put our bags down gathered our Ellis Island coupons and headed about 100 feet over to the casino.

I really like the feel of it. Small, intimate, not too crowded but people still having a good time. I'm easily pleased. We sign up for our players card where they were super friendly I may add, used our play 10 get 10 Q's and was told to swipe at the kiosk for an additional free play spin. Wife and I both got $10 in freeplay and we split up. I hit my favorite Shake your Booty machine and made $18 off it with a 5OAK. Hell yes! I found her and she showed me an 8 dollar ticket. I thought maybe that was her winnings off her freeplay but no she had put a twenty in because she couldn't get the promo play to work:confused2: We found a Monopoly Machine and found her promo play did work, and she won about $15 off it. We decided to play a fish game ( not sure what its called) it soaked $10 off of me within 5 minutes and she stayed about even. At this point we were hungry and I wanted steak. We decided to get the steak and eggs and use the 2 for 1 ACG coupon. With 2 steak and eggs and 2 root beers it totaled about $16 without tip. I then used my $5MP where I lost in blackjack. Being the gambler I am, I decided to play another $20 and lost it..should have left when my luck was up...rookie move on a low ballers part:rolleyes2:

All in all we spent $60 from leaving the airport to the time we went to bed..including the $15 that was lost. Not horrible for cheapo's like us. Today the plan is to meet my friend from an online mommy group that lives here for lunch and then we plan to ride the Deuce downtown and use the $50 from the D for riding Spirit, $10 at El Co and a few other random SP and MP we have.

Very much enjoying your trip report. It is especially interesting for frugal members like my wife and I. Please keep the details coming. Nice job.
