Had a wee bit of 100 proof Rittenhouse Rye left and it was a hot one yesterday, so I fixed myself a Manhattan on the rocks. The higher proof really holds up well to the ice as it melts. I came back out and found a Yellowjacket tasting my cocktail, maybe too much sweet vermouth?

Probably nothing to do with it. They are just very aggressive insects.

    Give Suncoast another try.
Our new favorite place to stay, but gamble at MSS

I haven't seen a yellow jacket in at least 10 years.

How many times do I have to tell you - I do NOT SHARE ;-)

Drink sounds good! My favorite Manhattan uses sweet & dry vermouths. I like rye, but don't actually have a preference between rye & bourbon in a Manhattan. (we did a tasting of all our new bourbons last weekend - yum! Did the rye a few months back, but haven't gone head to head with ryes & bourbons. I fear we'd need medical attention.....)

We often have happy hour drinks out on the deck and haven't seen a yellow jacket (or fly) yet that didn't like whatever we're drinking. (No shortage of yellow jackets here!) I trust you used Angostura in your Manhattan.

    On the rocks?!?

What are you, some sort of communist? That much ice belongs in a shaker, then strain and serve in a cocktail glass.

:shakes head: What a senseless waste of good rye.

    :p
