So I recently found out a buddy isn't allowed to go to Vegas unless his wife comes along which pretty much instantly killed the prospect of the trip.

There's 4 of us in our group. Stu, Alex, Darryl and myself. Alex is finally getting married this summer at the end of August. We've always said that if it ever happens, we are going balls out for the bachelor party. After close to 10 years of dating, he broke down and popped out the ring. Ideas for the stag began being thrown around as soon as word got out about the engagement. Naturally Vegas entered the equation as a possibility. Nothing has really been planned yet as it's still almost 6 months away but there's always discussion about it whenever we get together.

Not too long ago the topic of the bachelor party came up in the presence of the other three's better halves. The word Vegas was thrown out there and we were quickly told by Darryl's wife that he is not allowed to go to Vegas for a bachelor party unless she is goes along for the trip. Apparently if we want to go to Vegas the women have to go as well according to her. Well that pretty much killed any hope of doing it in Vegas. And it's just not a trip to Vegas she's trying to control either. She wanted to know if we were planing on taking Alex to a strip club for his stag and she can't believe that we said probably at some point we would be. This isn't even her finance we're talking about!! In fact Alex's fiance doesn't have a problem with it at all.

It's funny, if you were to have asked me which character from the Hangover each of us is, I wouldn't have hesitated to say Darryl was Phil but now I'm positive he's our Stu.

Wow! I cant imagine being married to that control freak. Seriously, she cant figure out that you are "much safer" in a strip club than a regular club where people actually hook up? Why dont the other 3 of you guys go and leave Mr and Mrs Ball and Chain at home?

It's all about trust i.e trust one wife to spoil the trip of a life time! I hope he can persuade her, he will need to use all his knowledge, abilities and bankroll in my view.

    I hope it works out.

Guess not everyone is as lucky as us with the wives. I actually don't even have any buddies who have wives who ever give us much of a problem. Or maybe the ones who do don't end up going for some other excuse. Hmmm come to think of it there have been at least 2 divorces from our regular Vegas group in the past 5 years.

Of course both those dudes are banging hotter chicks now.

    Food
    For
    Thought.

    :wink2:

whoops 3 divorces, forgot one just initiated.

again 3 for 3 on the dudes banging hotter chicks now. basically same story for all 3 couples too....

ridiculous psycho jealous wife initiates divorce against dude who I can attest never did a thing wrong in Vegas.

dude goes thru rough patch eventually recovers meets hotter chick

    old wife tries to reconcile

dude laughs, continues banging hotter chick.

I have no way of knowing their relationship "history" (and perhaps it doesn't matter)... he might be a "Frank the Tank" type who used to streak thru the Quad or the kinda guy that ends up with the lampshade on his head during the office Christmas party, but I don't think that's how reasonable people in a trusting relationship handle things.

I sure couldn't operation or thrive in the environment...

BUMMER! Everyone deserves a real Vegas Bachelor party if they want one!

There seems to be a 'fun-kller' in every group. Like most fun killers, she sounds insecure. Someone always seems to elect themself as the righteous and the logical spokesperson for the group. These folks insist on holding the 'moral compass' for everyone else. Over the years people like this have come (and gone) into our circle of friends. This righteous behavior has a tendency to back-fire though. It just makes everyone else less open and less truthful.

I've attended SEVERAL over-hyped Vegas bachelor parties. For the most part, they turned out to be rather tame. HOWEVER, some of the scandilous stories that leaked from the related bachelorette parties put our Vegas bachelor parties to shame!

So why should the rest of the group have to suffer? You should have a 'honorary' Vegas bachelor party for your buddy. You can send updates and reports of the shenanigans to Darryl. And his wife.

There is stuff going on in that relationship. I know you are annoyed about the party but it really sounds like your friend needs a sympathetic ear. Let's just hope the paranoia is baseless.

i pretty much instituted my own rule about going to a casino without my wife. she keeps me balanced and i have more fun and do better at the tables to boot. without her i tend to sit at the tables for 14 hours a day and continue playing until i lose. plus she enjoys going to the spa and we enjoy dining out together, so it's a win/win. so i told her a while back i'm never going without her again. that said if there were a buddies trip with a bunch of guys that someone else was planning, i would probably go without her and she would expect that.

I think the guys need to worry about the engaged guy and leave the other guy to handle his own life. He married this woman, and he needs to either live with her or figure it out. Maybe he's using her as an excuse to avoid going with you? In the end, it's his life and his marriage and not your concern.....

We're trying to figure it out as well but have pretty much accepted the fact that is who she is. The ironic thing is he's the last guy you'd have to worry about doing something and you'd think she'd know that by now after being together 6 years. We always joked that he would make a good priest. She is insecure and we can't hold that against her but it does mess us up when it comes to planning stuff. I think this is all a holdover from a previous relationship she had just before she met him.

The problem is we haven't gone away together as a group in a long time, ever since the first one of us got married. Since then everyone has been doing the couples thing with trips (except for me the consummate bachelor) and we saw this as an opportunity to get the boys together again. This isn't just about a bachelor party either. Stu and I were talking this past week about maybe trying to get something planned for the fall and he was asking me about Vegas (I'm the only one who's been) and he said to me there's no way we can ask Darryl because of the misses. That pretty much goes not just for Vegas but I think any future trips.

I would imagine "buddies sticking their nose in it" is just going to make it worse for him. Tell him you're headed on a guys only Vegas trip and it's up to him how to handle his home life.

I don't really see any other way.

Yup, sad to say, the best you can do is plan the trip without him and tell him that if he finds himself able to go you'll find a way to make room for him. Good luck!

Its easy for us to think his wife is crazy and overbearing but we don't know the whole story. Maybe she is like the Hangover guys girlfriend or maybe this guy has gone away before and cheated on her over and over so she has a hard time trusting him but wants to try keeping the marriage together. I've seen that with a few friends of ours.

I had this exact same scenario happen a while back when we wanted to take my cousin out there for his bachelor party. His wife is a major control freak and wouldn't let him go.

Vegas has a similar issue with attracting corporate and government conferences. There's always someone or a couple people who object. If you try to argue against them, they make you feel immoral.

They have no problem spending twice as much on rooms, meals, etc. and nightmare travel to have the meetings in Omaha, but at least "we haven't degraded ourselves by going to Las Vegas!" Ughhhh

Makes me glad to be gay. When I wanna go to Vegas without him, the most my partner says is "how long?". Sometimes he'll suggest shows for me to preview for our next trip there together. Bliss....

If your friend had any sense he would go anyway, if she throws a fit and threatens to leave him or something, he should say, "there's the door". Cause as long as he keeps caving in to a control freak, it aint gonna get any better.

Sounds like a group email is needed to let this wife know that this is unacceptable. Let her know she should get her ass on the treadmill (or quit being such a no-fun controlling bitch) and he will have little to worry about her husband beeping his hands to himself.

Then the 3 of you need to buy your friend a blowjob!
