    My Trip Report

    Hi Everyone,
I had a blast waiting for my trip by reading everyone else's reports so I am going to be giving writing one a shot. A little background...I am a teacher/coach from Houston and that is why I have time to spend 18 nights in Vegas and trust me I needed a break ! My friends always ask how can you stay that long but honestly its not a problem. I could stay a month...easy ! :peace: I had a partner in crime my Mom along and since she really hates flying it was a super LONG road trip. Drove first night to Las Cruces and second night to Chandler, AZ. Decided to stop there because there are a few casinos and we gave them both a little shot. No big hits but I left a couple of hundred up. Cool !! Day 3....it was a short and fun drive to Las Vegas. We were watching Vegas Vacation and as we drove to the dam the dam scene was on. Pretty good timing. The damn dam traffic was OK but did slow us down a bit as they were working on the roads. It is so amazing to watch them build the new bridge across the dam. Really really amazing....anyway we had to have a little "break" becuase of the traffic so we stopped at the casino right after the dam. It was there that I got my first look at the Amazing race slots. I really like them and I did great but I had no idea why I was getting bonuses....it took me until the next day to figure out it a group bonus. LOL.....on to Vegas !!! We have a long standing tradition that as soon as you can see Las Vegas we play the song " I feel lucky" as loud as our ears can handle and sing along. My Mom said I really do feel lucky and I said I Hope so because so do I. We headed striaght to the Las Vegas Hilton to check in and pick up our registration packet for the slot tournament. I was soooooo happy to finally be in my second home... More to come soon !!!

    And the tale continues.....

So me and my Mom go down to pick our times to play in the tournament and we decide that the 10 A.M. start time for day 1 sounds lucky. We shall see  We then decided to go get something to eat and play a little bingo. I do enjoy playing and my Mom loves the bingo. We went to Terribles...mom won $160 and then we ate the dueces wild special. Seriously where else in the world can you get this kind of deal. $2.99 for 2 pancakes, 2 eggs and 2 strips of bacon. (and it was actually good - but stay away from the buffet there !!! ). Next we headed to Eastside Cannery to check out their new classic slots section. It was fun but I was expecting alot more machines than there is. We played alot of slots and bingo again.....(Yes, my Mom won again !!! ). Then back to the Hilton to get some sleep. We get up and get ready and I load myslef down with lucky socks, new lucky shirt, lucky undies....you get the idea. We play as partners in the tournament and we decided she should play round one. She scored good...towards the top of everyone in our session so we were happy with the start. It was then time to find a good spot to watch the first USA world cup game. The Hilton had an awesome setup in the showroom so we grabbed a couple of seats and got a couple of hotdogs and enjoyed the game. It was then time for me to play in the second round of the tournament. It was so much fun and I scored a pretty respectable score but not as good as my Mom's....but overall it was good. With one day to go I am pretty sure we are sitting in at least the top 20 or so and am hoping to get a little cash out of this....you will have to stay tuned to see how it ended !!!!

18 days, wow, I don't think I could make it.

Nice to hear about the Hilton, I'm popping in Diamonds Are Forever as part of my pre-trip prep.

    Do continue...

This is where it gets good........

So the next morning we have a big decsion on whom is going to play the last round in the tournament. After much persistance on my part my Mom finally agreed to go for it. (made sense to me since she had scored so well the day before). Her machine was rocking for the first part of the session but slowed down the last few minutes. It was so much fun cheering for her....red, white, blue !!!!! Overall her score was good so now we had to waste a few hours before we can check at the casino cage to see if we had won anything back. We headed to Boulder Station for some bingo (yes, she won again !!!) , and some 3 card poker, and slots. Around 4 we head back to the Hilton and get dressed up for the banquet. We go to the casino cage to pick up our "hopefully" winnings and got a big surprise. The girl said I cant give you your award you need to go to the banquet....I know I was smiling and then it hit me...we are in the top 4 !!!! So as we are walking to the banquet I am on the cell phone calling everyone and so excited. The dinner was awesome but I was so nervous so combined with open bar and free flowing wine I was also quite a bit tipsy. We had to wait till the end to find out how we finished. So they announce 4th place...not us ! And then third place....not us ! I am now super surprised and they announce us as the second place winner for $15,000.00. Wow...too cool. We got a plaque for the wall and some pictures taken at the front of the room. When it was all over we went back to the cage and collected the cash which I immediately went and put in a safe deposit box at the front desk to be taken to the bank Monday morning. Back to our room to call everyone and celebrate !!!!! Still 15 nights left in the trip but this is defitnely one of the most fun moments EVER !!!!

    Still lucky.....

So the next morning I woke up and had to run to the dresser to make sure the plaque saying we had won was still there. So happy it wasn't a dream !!! We decided to go to Circus Circus to play those really old $1 magnificant 7's machines. I am pretty sure these are the same machines that a long time ago used to be on the carousel. My Mom loves them and I still remember hitting the blue sevens on my 21st birthday. I have to admit there is something cool (and dirty !!!!) about playing with coins and although we didn't hit the big one we had fun and walked away a winner. I felt 10 years old again when I said "Mom I wanna go upstairs to try to win a stuffed animal" but she thought it was cute and upstairs we went. We both made the little camels run by throwing the balls in the little holes and she won a cute little animal. I saw this guy walking by with a huge bear and said I gotta find that game which I did and it ended up being a game where you have to knock 3 blocks off a pedestal with a beanbag. The coach came out in me and I walked up paid for a beanbag and threw it soooo hard and totally missed. My Mom was laughing so hard so I got another one and Bang nailed it. The lady working looked totally in shock and now I was having to walk around with at least a 4 foot bear....hilarious !!! (Glad we are driving- how do people on a plane get these things home???). Anyway enough kid fun we decide to drive to Alliante Station. We both really love this place and for some reason always do well here. I started by playing one of the new 3 reel reel em in machines with the little fish progressives on it. We both were bonusing together and we ended up cashing over $600 out. I next attacked 3 card poker where I got back to back.....staright flush and 2 card poker. SWEET !!! Side note...there was only 1 lady playing when I sat down and she was sitting in the middle of the table. I took seat #1 and about 5 hands later hit the straight flush...she was pissed and then I hit the 3 of a kind and she got so upset she walked away. I felt kinda bad but if she wanted to keep "her cards" then she should have been sitting in the first seat. I am a pretty friendly person but she was already grumpy when I got there but I guess I made her day worse...After that we played Bingo and we both won but nothing big. I also forgot to mention before we left the Hilton we ate their champaign brunch and it was really good. We usually only eat one meal a day in Vegas becuase we eat too much and then just snack on fruit and stuff in the room. I will try to include at least some of the highlights of eating out. I thought it was cool they had gummy bears to put in the ice cream....even though I didn't do it !!!! (Had some delicious chocolate cake instead for desert). Happy 4th of July to all !!!!!:peace:

WOW, congratulations on the big win!!! With such a long haul in Vegas, you are very wise to have deposited that.....I'm pretty sure if I left that cash in my room safe, at some point I'd have too much to drink and go completely degenerate and donate it back.

Congrats on the back to back straight flush and the 3 of a kind also!! Were you playing a $5 table? How much did you win? I can understand why the lady would get up and walk away after that!

Enjoying your report! Keep it coming!!!

On the 3 card poker I was playing $10 up top (pair plus) and $5 on the bottom. Walked way about $950 up after 30 minutes. I really did feel bad for the other lady but dang she was so unfriendly and rude. A few years ago...the guy sitting one seat ahead of me went to the restroom which altered the cards by one position.(This was a Carribean stud table - by the way that game has almost disappeared..) and I lost out on a straight flush and I was a little sick about it but I was still super happy for the guy that hit it. I guess I am strange like that...happy to see anyone winning !

    Still having a blast !!!

The next morning I decided to try something new and went to the spa at the Hilton. We had a couple of passes included with our hotel package so I figured why not ? I was so lost when I walked in....hmmmm what to do ? I ended up trying a couple of saunas and then a nice long soak in a relaxing hot tub. I felt so awesome after leaving there and I thought it was cool all the hair products and stuff to get ready with. I then did some not so fun stuff... went and got the car washed and then hit the grocery store for a few items for the room. We spent the rest of the day at South Point. It was a fun day / evening. We ate the buffet and thought it was really good. We also watched a movie in one of their new theatres I forgot now exactly what they called it digital something. The seats were leather and the screen was very clear. ( We saw Karate kid which we thought was O.K.). I really usually like the smell of leather but it just didn't mix well with the popcorn smell...just kinda strange smelling and it kinda got to me a little. I had absolutely no luck on the slots here....just feeding them like crazy. We did play a couple of bingo sessions and both won but nothing big. Overall a really relaxing and fun day. Will write a little more tomorrow !!!

    Another fun day !!!!

The next day the main event was going to Aria to see Viva Elvis. I had bought these tix for my Mom for Mother's Day as she is an Elvis freak. She needed to get her hair "fixed" so we made an early afternoon appointment at the El Cortez. My Mom has used the same super awesome, friendly, and talented Vanessa for at least 10 years worth of trips. So before heading downtown we ate at the Hilton again and it was very good. Getting her hair done is about a 1.5 to 2 hour ordeal so I was able to mosey around downtown but it was sooooo hot I ended up mostly playing at Fitzgeralds. I gave it my best shot at winning a Corvette for nickels and then settled in for a while playing Sex in the City. I had a ton of bonuses but these machines are expensive to play so I settled with breaking even. When I got back to the El Cortez the lights went out....OK that was weird. Playing a slot machine and then buzzzzz nothing. It only took about 20 seconds to come back on but then all the slot machines had to reboot which took a while. I cashed out and then like 2 minutes later buzzzzz nothing. (lights out again). Right about then my Mom called my cell so we got outta there. We decided to go to Main Street station to play in their daily slot tournament and to play some VP. We both got into the finals of the slot tournament ( OK so there were only 6 people playing and 5 made the finals....lol....but it was fun). My Mom did not place and I got 4th place which won me a Main Street Station jacket. For only $10 this is a really fun deal. We then played a bunch of 25 cent treasure chest VP. I got 2 4 of a kinds but the scratch cards and chests were little. We then ate something but I really can't remember what :rolleyes2: Next we headed back to the Hilton to get dressed up for the show. Since I wasn't sure about parking and picking up the tickets for Viva Elvis we headed over to City Center a little early. Parking and finding our way around was easy so we ended up with a little extra time to gamble. Nothing for me but my Mom hit a slot for about $200 up. We really had a good time at the show. I have seen mixed reviews but for my Mom ( a true Elvis fan) it was awesome. Since we were all dressed up we took a tram over to Bellagio to take pictures in the conservatory, watch the fountains and just hang out. The conservatory was beautiful as ever and we took tons of pics. After that we headed back to the Hilton. Tomorrow is moving day - going to leave the Hilton to go to the Gold Coast.

Really enjoying your report so far!

What time of day is the MSS slot tourney? Sounds like fun for a cheap $10.

I'm going ot miss Elvis . I know it isn't rated well, but I figured I would grab the $50 Cirque summer special - unfortunately it appears they are off a full 2 weeks in July!

The finals for the Main Street Station daily tournament is at 4:00 so what we usually do is go play at the last session at 3:00 and that way if either of us makes the final we don't have a long time to wait. I think the other times you can play are 11, 1, and 2 but I am not 100 % sure since we usually slide in about 10 minutes before 3. Good luck...it really is a fun time !
