    My Trip Report

For some strange reason, MLife sent my dad, a nanoroller of a gambler, a two-night comp offer + $50 freeplay at Monte Carlo or Luxor. He invited me to tag along, we added on a third night at $31 MLife discount and were off to Vegas.

Thoughts from my sixth trip to Vegas

    State of Monte Carlo:
I really hope the rumors of a renaming/rebranding/renovation are true. This hotel needs something. I should really love this hotel - an ideal south strip location and a solid casual dining lineup, but when I'm there I just can't help but think about the weak vibe on the casino floor and the painfully boring hotel rooms. It feels a lot like the Harrah's of MGM when it has the potential to be more like Planet Hollywood or MGM. For me and my dad, it's fine. But I'll say this, I'd be hesitant about bringing a female guest here (even with a suite). I'd only bring friends my age (mid/late 20s) if we were on a tight budget.

    Tropicana:
The $200 loss reimbursement promo lured me in at 8 a.m. Friday morning. I put $100 in a video poker machine, dipped to $40 at $10/hand before a couple hot streaks put me at $300 and I cashed out.

    Casa Don Juan (Downtown Mexican):
Great food and margaritas, definitely recommend

    Hecho en Vegas (MGM Grand):
Good salsa, good margarita and dad raved about his portobello fajitas. I just can't do $25-30 fajitas, so I stuck to an appetizer.

    Fun with status matching:
On gambling mertis alone, I would never make it out of the bottom tier (mainly because no one cares about sports betting). Thanks to having Hyatt credit's card, I'm Hyatt Platinum which gives me MLife Gold. Last year, I used MLife Gold to give me Identity Gold, and took advantage of two free comp nights. Since I finally made it downtown, I'm now King level with The Plaza's Royal Rewards, I'll see if I ever take advantage of that.

Aerosmith @ MGM Grand Garden Arena:
I was very impressed with the sound, seating and view at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Definitely see a concert here if you have the chance. I know The Joint gets a lot of accolades, but I was more impressed with GGA. Have not seen a show at Pearl or Axis yet.
As for Aersomith, very impressed that Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Joey Kramer still got it after all these years. A pretty solid hits setlist.

As Royal Flusher would say, very savvy!!!

And I agree with you about MC, it rivals harrahs in casino feel. Nothing sticks out at all. The highlight of MC is their pool area imo.

This was my first non-winter trip to Vegas and first experience with pools. I also liked MC's pool area, another sign of potential in the property.
