    My Trip Report

I wanted to stay a couple days at Rio because I think the pool is fantastic, and that is exactly what my girlfriend and I were looking to do after the 2.5 hr flight out of omaha.

We landed at 12:40pm and its over an hour before we get checked in. There wasn't many people in line but this took forever. It had me nervous about changing hotels...So Im looking around to see if theres a TR check in - turns out there is, just not for us lowly gold members. Get to the counter and its a newbie in training (I was going to make an attempt at the $20 trick).

I had thursday and friday comped in a standard room, they offered me an upgrade to the samba rooms for $20 a night (they wanted $100/nt online[wtf]) so I took it and paid for it with my RCs. Got 37th floor view of the pool. There was no wait to get in the room.

The bed here was crazy soft. Just kind of sank into it.

There was a fridge under the TV, thankfully it was empty.

Had lunch at the deli, it was very good as usual.

So we get down to the pool area, 1 is as hot as a hot tub, no joke. The other was just a little too cold. Didn't bother with pool/sand area- it was full of kids. The adult pool/party area was pretty loud but we never bothered to go in.

I noticed Rio doesn't have any 40th floors. (I've heard that 4 is unlucky for some asian folks) So beings were on the 37th floor there is only 38, 39, 50, 51 above us. And judging by the looks of the last pic in this bunch, we are near the top of the building.

Went to the American grill for burgers and beers, it was pretty good.

Played some quarter slots with no wins to report.

Thursday night we stopped at the casino bar for some captain and coke. $24 for 2! really the casino bar? So we finished those, hit the giftshop for a 750 of captain and a pepsi (b/c thats all Rio sells) for $24. Thats more like it. So we have a couple drinks in the room and head to Tryst at Wynn. I had never been and it turned out to be a neat place.

We had a couple drinks and ended up leaving -this place turned into a meat market. If you're looking to pick up dudes, this is the place to go on a thursday apparently.

We ended up back at Rio about 1 or 2am. We were going to go to Voodoo (I love witchdotors!) But they wanted to charge us $30 to get in...and considering witchdoctors are $35 we opted to just crash. We were both tired and we're used to waking up at about this time.

By Friday afternoon I was definitely ready to check out of Rio. The noise from Voodoo the night before was crazy loud in our room, and now the pool party was almost as loud...pretty amazing considering we were so high up. But we had one more night here.

    Friday
My girlfriend bout us tickets to see Ludacris at palms pool.

    Palms pool was filling up.

Im normally not into wild pool parties and that sort of thing (as I like relaxing at places like the pool at Rio) But this turned out to be a lot of fun.

Ludacris gets on stage and this place comes alive. He knows how to get the crowd going.

This place filled up and it was wild!

After the party we decided to try Rios Carnival Buffet. Once again, not that many people in line and its taking forever to get in. We get in and there's plenty of open tables so Im not sure what the problem is.

Everything I tried was pretty good. No complaints about the buffet.

After eating we take about a 3 hour nap. I ate WAY too much. So its about midnight by the time we get up again and are showered and ready to get back at it. Had another captain+pepsi in our room and headed to Surrender at Encore. -What a beautiful place.

Theres a HUGE dragon in front of the bar at this place and my picture does not do it justice. I was going to hang around and try to get a better one, but it was insanely loud in the club area.

The hot tubs here are sweet!

I can't remember what time we left, but I was dead tired by the time we got back to the room.

    Saturday
Time to check out of Rio and head to palms place. We checked out right at 11 and debated on just walking but opted for a cab. I think it was $4.90 to get over there. The driver was real friendly so I gave him a 10.

I had made my reservation through olotels.com - which I found through room77, which I had never heard of before coming to the board - and this saved me almost $150! Thanks VMB members!

When I get to the counter and give the girl my ID she says I have a room book in Palms' Ivory tower, but its not a problem and she can check my in here. Good thing I printed to receipt of my booking that says palms place.

Im not sure whos end the problem was on with the booking but the girl said she could change it and get us checked us into Palms Place.
Its 11:15am, and the girl says theres a room on 8th floor thats ready, but if we want to wait a while she can get us a high floor room. We were fine with 8th floor so we took it.

    Love these rooms!

The beds here are pretty firm, it was a nice change from Rio.

We headed to the 24/7 cafe for breakfast. Both us got cheesy eggs, hashbrowns and toast. The food showed up super fast and it was great. Servers were also friendly. Here I noticed palms is also on board with the discounts for players card members. Even if you're not a gambler its becoming worth the 3 minutes to sign up for a players card just to get the discounts in the restaurants.

We took the Palms shuttle to the forum shops (which leaves Palms at every 1/2 hr on the hour until 8pm). The Rio gave us a coupon book that had a card in it to redeem at the concierge in the forum shops for another book with "$2,500" worth of coupons. I thumbed through it and placed it in the trash. It was basically 20 coupons for 10 or 20% the insanely overpriced "fancy" stores in the forum shops.

We got some gelato at the place near the casino entrance, damn that stuff is good. Stopped into chocolat (I think that was the name of it -its also a restaurant and it smells damn good from 20 feet away). We tried a sample with roasted coconut and damn that was good. A box of I think 9 was like $12 and I would have bought one, but I was thinking about it being 110 degrees outside and knew they wouldn't last.

We walked the strip for a while. Didn't see anyone working on the old Bills.

Sugar at Paris had these on display.

But I had a fresh budlight lime...
Played quarter slots for about 2 hours at Paris and didn't hit anything better than $10.

Saw some construction at Monte Carlo, I didn't realize they were working on anything here.

So we headed back to palms. My gf got Earl of Sandwich from the foodcourt. Hit the the pool and had some malibu+pineapple.

After getting cleaned up we stopped at Rojo bar in Palms Place to use our 2 for 1 drink coupons the lady at check in gave us. This is a neat little bar area and they have some good specialty drinks.

Went to dinner at Nove. It was fantastic. View is amazing and we went right at sundown. I had an 8oz fillet and asked for the black truffle asparagus, which wasn't on the menu but someone on here told me to try it and it was great. Our servers eyes lit up when I asked for it. He wanted to know if I had been there before, I told him I had just heard of it. He says its amazing and it was. My girlfriend got chicken parm and we also had a appetizer with a bunch of cheeses and cured meats. This place was awesome. We didn't get any drinks, dinner was $110. I don't mind spending the money when the food is amazing.

So its about 9pm, my gf needs a nap. I turn 30 in a couple hours, so I start mixing drinks in the room. After about an hour my girlfriend wakes up, I pour her a drink, and myself another and thats the last of the nearly 2/3 of the 750 of captain. I am ready to party at this point. Finish our drinks and head to ghostbar.

The view here is absolutely amazing and my crummy cellphone pics just don't do any justice.

Headed over moon which is on the top floor of the other (fantasy) tower. This place is very cool. The roof is retractable and they will open it up occasionally to show the night sky.

    What a night.

    Sunday

We check out of Palms place right at 11 and head to Cosmo. Now Im thinking checking in could be a problem, especially after a saturday night.

Neither of us had stayed at Cosmo, so it would be a new experience for both of us.

When we pull into Cosmo my gf is immediately wowed. Get into the lobby and theres a bunch of people. Employees are walking around handing out waters.

After about 10 minutes we get to the check in counter. I give the guy my ID he pulls up the reservation. Have a little small talk...he says I booked a great room(wraparound), I mention its my birthday and he says he can get us into something right away and they wouldn't want to keep to me waiting around on my birthday. I can't argue but I wasn't going to make any demands either...

He says he got me a premium view and hands us a room key. Off we go...

Im sure everyone already knows, but this place is uber fancy and I could have take 1000 pictures here.

My heart starts to beat a little heavy because I am so damn excited.

But first I want to show some pictures of the lighting set up.
This fancy little button will turn on/off all the light in the room. Cool.

Sliding dimmers next to the light switches.

And the lamps have pushbutton dimmers
    [IMG]

    Damn this place is COOL.

There was some kind of accident on the strip in front of Ballys Sunday about 6:00pm. Not sure what happened, kind of looked like that white bus hit the walkway. There was some smoke for a while but after 2 firetrucks showed up it cleared.

We went to China Poblano for dinner. Had the 20 vegetable fried rice, carnitas tacos and a beef tongue taco. It was all very good. The carnitas tacos are one of their most popular item and its no wonder.

After dinner we went to the Mandarin Skybar for a couple drinks. Wish I would have taken some pictures.

Headed back to the room fairly early as both of us were pretty tired.

The noise from the strip was kind of loud even with the doors shut. I got woke up a couple times from police sirens.

Question about the wraparound suite balcony... Is the guardrail about waist high and is there anything on the other side protecting drunks from falling further?

Good Start! But if unless that is standard for Cosmo rooms, I don't think I am ever staying there even if I became rich. I assume that's a suite and assume retails at $500+ while I would rather stay in a standard Mirage room with strip view for comparison. The biggest highlight looked to be the fountain view. Just my ~cheap opinion though. :)

Loving the report so far. My May trip was split between an Ivory Tower room at Palms and Cosmo. No better place to celebrate a milestone birthday like 30 than a Cosmo wraparound terrace suite overlooking the Bellagio fountains; that's where we celebrated my 50th. Fantastic photos in your report; looking forward to more!

It was the perfect spot. Height was just right too! Although I have to admit I was a little week in the knees at first...

Guardrail is a little above waist height, and its about a foot or so from the actual edge.

This reminds me, I saw a younger kid about 7 floors above us in the east tower sitting on the guardrail. I couldn't even stand to look over there.

I absolutely LOVE palms place rooms. They are fantastic. The bathrooms are great too, they have 2 shower heads - one in the standard spot and the other on the ceiling -they're so refreshing.

Also if you ask for an even numbered room you will be facing the strip, and you can see everything from Mandalay Bay all the way to wynn and then some.

The room is called a wraparound terrace. I paid $330 for sunday night. I have seen it cheaper. You can get a terrace suite for even cheaper but the terrace is only about 1/4 the size.

I did do some gambling. A little at Rio while waiting on the GF and about 2 hours at paris. The drink service was fantastic at paris. Although I should mention the times I have played at rio it has been good there as well.

My GF doesn't gamble much, and since it was just us two this trip we didn't play much.

I should also mention, this trip is a prime example of why I never have any solid plans prior to heading to vegas. I had a hand full of things that I wanted to do but they never happened.

    1) I fully intended on getting presidential limo service (my own fault because I waited until the night before to make the res and they don't take them 24 hours prior to pick up) I am sure I could have called but I really wanted it to be a surprise to my GF and since she was home I didn't want her to overhear the call.

I also wanted to cruise the strip at night in a limo, but since the friends that were going to come with us bailed (idiots) and b/c my gf and I have seen everything on the strip I figured why bother.

    2) There were two shows I wanted to see this trip. Never made it to the box office.

    3) the cars at the quad. I even printed the free passes. forgot all about it.

Glad everyone enjoyed the photos. I know I love seeing them in your guys'.

The rooms in the Ivory tower are really nice, very modern and clean lines. I put a review on Trip Advisor.
