    Trips to Las Vegas:

    My Trip Report

Stayed at the Venetian for the second time…wife loves the Canyon Ranch Spa and I think it’s the best poker room. However I requested the Venezia Tower just to see what it’s like. No reason to stay there imho. It’s just a much longer, winding confusing walk from everything you are there to do and see. The rooms are no nicer than those in the Venetian Tower and I think they are maybe even a little smaller.

Tried two new (to us) restaurants this trip and both were outstanding. Milos at the Cosmopolitan was wonderful and $22 for the three course lunch is a phenomenal value. Very nice room, the perfect combo of casual yet elegant, service was spot on. Chart House at the Golden Nugget for a wonderful dinner. Seated right next to the huge aquarium while we enjoyed a marvelous dinner. There are at least a half dozen entrees on the menu that we still want to try. This will be a definite go to place on future trips. Had a couple of meals at the Grand Lux in Venetian….always good, always reliable. If you can’t find something you like on this menu there’s just no pleasing you.

    Off Strip:
Made a drive to check out the Red Rock Canyon. If you are looking for 2 or 3 hour diversion from the strip this is the place. Peaceful, scenic overwhelming beauty. If you want to turn it in to a longer trek feel free to hike one of the many trails. Made a stop at the Red Rock Casino while we were there. A beautiful place with lots to offer. If you are inclined to stay off strip it looks like a lovely choice.

Absinthe: What can I say….irreverent, crude, politically incorrect, offensive…..and hilarious. If you are easily offended don’t go. Otherwise you will be greatly entertained and laugh more than you have in ages.

Gordie Brown: I’ve wanted to see this guy for years and finally did. He may strike some as a little cheesy but my wife and I were thoroughly entertained. Great singer/impressionist. He seems like he is really enjoying every minute on stage and he works his a$$ for you. Bonus, these are the most comfortable theater seats I have ever sat in.

V the Variety Show: Affordable and entertaining. The emcee/juggler whose name escapes me keeps the show moving and he does more and more amazing stuff as the night moves on. Good thing about this show, if you don’t like one act you know it will be over in a minute and something different is coming next.

Human Nature: Not really sure how I feel about this one. 4 white guys from Australia doing a Motown tribute. No doubt they are extremely talented, they obviously love the music and the staging and band that back them up are awesome….but still it just felt a little too “white” to me.

    Random thoughts and musings:
I know many people hated the I.P. I was not in that group. Did it need some sprucing up? Yeah no doubt, but now as the Quad it is completely bland. There may be more changes coming but at this time there is no compelling reason to spend a moment gambling here.

Wandered through the Margaritaville Casino at Flamingo…if the smell of Coppertone nauseates you don’t walk in, that is the fragrance they pump in here.
Not sure if I’m cool enough to stay at the Cosmopolitan but this looks like a fun place to hang. Chandelier Bar is Vegas cool and the pool that overlooks the Strip is pretty awesome.

Ballys poker room has probably the most uncomfortable chairs on the strip.
Aria still intrigues me….hope I can convince the wife to breakaway to this end of the strip next time.
Taking my son who will be 21 by then back in November…till then…
