Friday I get to the 4Q check-in counter at 10am but it's too early for my requested north tower room. I don't want to wait so I opt for a south side room in the south tower. The free wifi is too weak to connect on this 16th floor. Small bath, single bed with two desks but it does the trick for 3 nights. I'm in a pretty good mood so when I bumped into the housekeeper I gave her $2 telling her I won't need service tomorrow. Later I gave her a can of Coke as the RC vending machine was not accepting her dollar bills. The first order of business is a stroll to The Grand. The doors are locked so no hope of an early peek. Across the street I see someone walk into Pizza Rock so I followed them in. The Hostess said it was their soft opening and today is "free pizza" with word of mouth invitation only. Not little personal pizzas either, I got a 14 inch pie for free. She offers me a menu and I sit at the decent sized island bar in the back. I chat with Cate and order a Chicago Crusted Michigan pie from one of the three different style ovens. It's a thin crust with pepperoni and Italian spices I normally wouldn't order. I order a pint of Blue Moon, because I don't recognize anything else, and roam around. It's pretty roomy with big screen TV's all over but not really close together. Only a few spots would let you watch a couple different games. There's a DJ booth inside the full sized semi-truck cab. A seperate Party room with 1 TV could accomodate 14 or so. Attractive interior decor. It was a 40 minute wait for the pizza. It was well-done with the outer crust crunchier than I like it. It is very good and it reminded me of Pop-Up Pizza which I also like. If you like pizza you should try it once. It would have been $21 for this pie. I thought that was kinda steep but if you compare it to Pop-Up, ($7.50 for 2 slices), it is a fair price. After a few random slices, (they cut it in those little squares), I look down at it and it's in the Pac-Man shape of the Linqs High Roller Wheel during construction, of which I have many photo's. My fascination with that Wheel runs deeper than I thought and I should probably see a doctor. A good one, not an Obamacare one. $6 for the pint of Moon and a second one doubles my bill to $12. I left a Twenty and took my Linq Pie back to the room to nosh on the rest of the day. Surprisingly it held it's flavor even at room temp a few hours later and it didn't have that dried grease residue. I wind up at The Plaza. They now have a few nine-seat electronic No Limit Texas Hold 'em tables. No Dealers, a Host walks around to run things. Blinds are $.25 and $.50 with $20 minimum buy-in. You need a separate card to register and login with. Everyone gets their own video screen. Your cards are face down until you cup your hand over your cards then the corners peel up to reveal what you got. You can't act until it's your turn so if you're going to fold you have to wait. These tables are where the High-Limit area was. Failing the "Experienced Gambler" test I didn't ask if it counted toward your rating. I am alone at the light waiting to cross Ogden on Main St to go into the Cal when a couple in their 20's arrives and stand disturbingly close. I move to the other side of the light pole to wait out the signal and the girl asks me to hold her purse. I tell her "no thanks" and to have her empty-handed boyfriend hold it. She got a little bent out of shape and I wonder what scam I just avoided. At the Cal I played Craps for 2 hours. I finally walked away up a little and wanting to mix it up I find a 6 deck BJ game. I misread an early win streak and ultimately left with only $75. I'm hungry so I get a $7.86 Lanai Express 2 item combo, both items teriyaki chicken, chow mein included. For several meals I've never had a food-quality incident with them. I eat it in the room with no adverse effects except I forgot the soy sauce. I have Louisville giving 12.5 points to UCF and UCF is down 28-7 early in the 2nd half. I tune in later and it's 31-35 with 30 seconds left in the game when UCF scores a TD and wins. I just lost the first game of my 9 teamer. $1995 for 9 right picks. I suck. I can hear the daytime FSE noise from the room but those yellow roll up ear plugs shut out all noise including the room fan, which only blows only cold so I have to turn it off and cover up during the night. I lose $100 at craps at the Fremont. During the game a guy buys in and gets 5 Blacks he keeps in his hand. Never playing anything else, he puts 1 chip in the Field and wins. He let's it ride and wins again. He keeps 2 in the Field most of the time and soon has about $1400 in Black as the 2 and 12 hit a few times. I ask him if he stops when the stack gets too big to hold in one hand. Me and a lady looky-loo watch in amusement\awe. She asks how to play and why he keeps winning and what numbers do what and what is the white puck thing and why did I just win and... I ask her if she's a hooker. Stunned, she finally sees I am joking and our chat is a little more tolerable after that. I like to play Let It Ride at the 4Q. The $1 Bonus Progressive is up to $100K for the Royal and a straight flush pays %10. They also have "envy" prizes. I lose $140. With no big wins. Probably lost another buy-in at the Crap table. Later that eve on the 3rd St Stage Monroy is very good as expected. Their Zeppelin montage is a personal favorite of mine. The FSE Security is in full force and not taking crap from anyone as I see random people cuffed and surrounded by several LEOs. Sat Early afternoon I walked east to check out Container Park but the whole block is Construction access only. It's on 7th and Fremont. You can't miss it. There's a BBQ joint in there I want to try. Slotzilla is getting spruced up. On 9th and Fremont I catch the BHX to Sams's Town where I am disappointed in the football seating options. I hop back on the BHX to Boulder Station. I lost my bus pass somewhere so I had to scam another one. I slip a $5 in the slot and ask for a "24 Pass, please". Never been questioned in 9 tries but today the driver asked if I wanted the "$5 or $8" 24 hr Pass. Well, duh, "the $5 one please". It's not widely publicized but locals pay 5 bucks while we aliens pay $8. Act like you live here and save $3. I doubt this will work on the two Strip buses as they would probably ask for local ID. $3 gets me two tasty hot dogs ($1 tip) from the kiosk in the Sports Book. Ketchup with a splash of sauerkraut. At the BS I won $110 playing craps. Charlie the Old Timer regular rolls a lot of numbers. I rolled a 3-point Fire for me and the crew. It's only 7-to-1 but they always appreciate the bets. One of the guys is pretty old-school and is fun to spot him leave an occasional loser bet up for the tippers. Back at FSE the crowd control barriers are going up for Our Lady Peace. I looked them up on Facebook and they did not interest me. Not dissing them, just not my prefered genre. I never saw the crowd as I went the opposite direction to MSS where I profited $170 at craps mostly because of a $2 Hard-10-Parlay. I bet it 2 Ways so the Dealers dropped $64. Wanting to watch a football game I sit down at the Boar bar and get many decent hands at VP including 2 consecutive Full Houses. Head to Dave's in the Cal sports book for VP and the rest of the FSU\Clemson game. With only $3.75 left from a $20 I get dealt 3 Aces. Hold, Hold, Hold, Draw, BOOM get the case Ace and kicker for 400 creds. Order a shot of tequila that turned out to be kerosene and burns my throat something fierce. I stuff a pile of bar knaps in my mouth to not cough up the toxic waste. With my throat on fire I'm pounding on the "Cash Out" button but it won't print the ticket. In all the flailing I had bumped the "Play 1 Credit" button so the game was live. I finally figure it out and cash $102.50. Left a 10 spot on the tip pile and head to the bathroom to stare at the creepy wall paper that looks like Ink Blot Vaginas and 2 guys with mustaches kissing. Kinda makes it hard to go and not feel like I have mommy issues or latent homo-eroticism. Georgia loses, Clemson loses just to show how bad I can pick'em. Back at the 4Q I played some LIR. I asked for, and got, a $20 comp from a nice Pit Lady. I head to the ElCo for craps with 10X odds. Friendly guys at my end with 1 newbie. We all play Pass with modest odds and Place numbers. We find fun in the losses and chide each other after quick 7 outs which are rare. Georgie is the Newbie, but he spells it J-o-r-g-e so we just call him J-Bomb. He has a Newbie type roll making us some decent bank. I think I won 2 points so J-Bomb doesn't show up the Seasoned Veteran. The dice are on the other end when a guy joins us and drops a pile of bills on the table. They give him stacks of Reds and Greens and he puts a huge stack, about half of his bank, on the Don't Pass. I whip out my camera so I can document this Kodak Moment. A Point of 4 is rolled and he puts the rest of the Bank down for odds. Now, his whole buy-in is wagered in two big stacks and in the landing zone, right near my Pass Line bet. The Pit Boss gets a little testy at his crew and Don't Guy, asking both why he didn't just get all Blacks. Don't Guy then pulls the stack of odds away and places them in the Don't Come and a 6 is rolled. He pulls out his phone and steps away from the table as the game continues. Me and my new comrades are enjoying the drama and, except for a confused J-Bomb, we have seen this before. My Comrades have pulled their odds and a couple of Place Bets. Expecting a 7-out I say "F-it" and press my odds on the 4 every time I collect a Place bet. The shooter does well so I have ten Reds stacked behind it in only a few rolls. We're all waiting for the dice to hit the Don't Guys stack and/or the 7-out but instead one die hits my 10-chip pile and it's a "Winner 4" as I probably over-celebrate. The 6 is rolled shortly afterward as Don't Guy takes it in stride and melts into the casino crowd. Walking back I find Fremont East lively with lines of clubbers and feels as safe as the FSE. I duck into the "Park on Fremont" bar for a pic of The Humping Horses. Kinda hard to take because of the full table right under it and lack of lighting so I mark this down for another visit. Kid Hollywood rocks after a late start. The Scinta's, now playing at The D, watch from The D VIP Box and seem impressed as they should be. Peter Monroy can really belt out a tune plain clothed or in drag. For a late dinner I had the very unexciting Fried Chicken at Magnolia's. One half of a bird with mashed potatos and gravy, which is the better part of this meal. The Gumbo is still very good. Note to Self: Just get the Gumbo and some bread next time. Yes, the Gumbo is that good. In the last elevator ride of the evening I am joined by a 20-ish dressed up cutie who looks up from her phone and asks me "just visiting?" I read about this on VMB and celebrating the start of a Hooker Encounter I play the game and reply "What'd ya have in mind?" "Uh, nothing, I just noticed your camera and thought..." Ding! Saved by the doors opening on my floor. Chuckling to myself I leave her insulted or flattered, I'm not sure because of all the awkward silence. I probably scarred her for life when she was just trying to be polite. Sun The Patriots, Bears, Eagles and Chiefs blew up my parlay cards early so I no longer have an obligation to watch any more games. I'm sure I lost a couple hundie on various tables through out the day.. For an early dinner I used my food comp on the Open Faced Beef sandwich at Magnolia's. This will be the third meal I've ever had here and I would get this sammy again. I would say Magnolia's is worth a visit but only during off-peak hours as it is very small and the line gets long quick. If you're staying close by then take-out is a good option. On my way to the Golden Gate I stroll FSE and some 30 yards away I spot the topless Devil Girl about to expose her zoomer's for a customer. Camera in hand and always up for a "Money Shot" I stop, aim and zoom in. Just as she comes into focus she sees me through the very thin crowd and yells that I need to tip her for the pic. I volleyed back with "Public Domain" and she had no reply to that, legally or vocally. She waited for me to walk by and I obliged her so they could finish the deal. I already got a clandestine pic of her skill set and now I have a pic of her pointing at me in a huff. I wonder how much for the Bird. Lost $100 at GG craps as no one can sustain a streak. More Craps at The Cal but I don't seem to have any luck so I spend the second half of the Colt\Bronco game at the Main St bar in the Cal. Slid in a hundie and cashed $102.50 after the Colt win. Got some decent hands with one quad. Miracle draws are mixed with typical duds. I have a great dialogue with 30year+ employee Mike which softens the pain of this losing trip ($1200). Sunday night gambling was not memorable and I leave early Monday morn without my usual Last Hurrah. I'll be back soon and look forward to checking out The Grand.
