    Hi Gang!

I'm still contemplating if I want to go on a trip 7/31 to 8/4/15. But if I do go I wanted to put at least 40K on my tier card.

How many hrs a day should I play VP and at what denomination should I play? I'm a craps player but was thinking on playing more VP if I go on this trip.

    Thanks for any help!

    Electro.

P.S. I'm Sapphire at Boyd properties and will put majority of my play at Cal and MSS.

Which property? 40k at mlife vs CET vs Wynncore vs V/P is very different?

Um, really depends on how long you want to play VP and how much you want to swing in the bankroll.

If the ultimate goal is to up your tier score, I would probably avoid VP machines that take $3 coin-in to earn a base point unless you really want to grind something like $1 10/7 Double Bonus (100.17%) all day as a machine like that would take 6000 hands a day.

If you would prefer a bartop, then the choice is pretty obvious, 9/6 JoB (99.54%) at boar's head for bets ranging from quarters to dollars (again depending on how long you want to take to complete coin-in goals or swing in your bankroll). If you want to swing for the fences at a bar, $1 9/6 DDB (98.98%) at Cal's bartops works too. Just make sure all these earn full points ($1 coin-in=1 point), they should.

If you want to play multiplay, 3/5 play 8/5 Bonus (99.17%) at MSS for quarters to keep the swings lower. If you want more swing, 3/5 Play 9/6 DDB w/STP (99.26% w/STP) for quarters at MSS.

I'm not a DT expert, but I would think these are some of your better choices for accruing tier points. Some other more seasoned Boyd DT players may have some better ideas.

Yeah, I think I worded my post wrong. I'm hoping the more experienced VP players would chime in and share their experiences as to how long it took them at a certain denomination to achieve roughly 40k in 4 days. I know it depends on how the machine(s) are paying out but a ball park figure would help me figure out if my planned bankroll is enough.

Time would be a factor in this trip also. I plan to escort my Mom (85 yrs. young) so I'll be spending considerable time escorting her to her room, watching over her as she plays (slots) and assuring she takes her medication and stays hydrated (she's a stubborn slot junkie). So playing time for me will be curtailed on this trip.

Thanks Tring, for the info you shared.

Oh, I play DDB in quarters and dollars.

Depends on how long you want to play...
    Short as Possible:
    8/5 Bonus Poker 25c Spin Poker @ MSS ($11.25 a spin)
This will lower variance and put through serious coin in a short time

If you want to take all day:
9/6 JoB Single Line 25c @ MSS Boars Head Bar..$10k coin-in will take 8 hours at a decent clip.

Those are our exact dates at MSS. Maybe I'll bump into you.

My wife and I play on one card. Her quarters, me dollars. I prefer sitting at the bar, but if I want to rack up points in a hurry, I'll play the STP near the crap table. Quarters, DDB at $12.50 a hand.

At the bar, we'll average about 11,000 per day in maybe 6-7 hours. We play the machines at the slowest speed setting and shoot the breeze with the CWs and bartenders.

I don't know about those five new machines they installed, but all the bartops at MSS and Cal were $1 in, equals a point.

At a buck a point, you need 8000 hands of dollar VP. I figure you can do 300-400 hands an hour. I'd probably opt for either dollar Jacks or 10 play Bonus Poker quarters, which would take less than half as long.

On Four Queens jacks uprights I could do 2000 hands in about 3 to 3 1/2 hours.

Thank you Joe and Mr. Flusher. This is exactly the feedback I was hoping for. I kinda knew what it took to achieve these numbers but wanted solid feedback from the VP Kings!!

It's great that we'll have a chance to say hello Joe, and it would be nice to meet you but I still haven't pulled the trigger as to if I'll escort my mom. She'll be traveling with 3 friends but always had my sister to accompany her. I don't feel right about her being without a family member at her age.

If it happens, it will! Thanks again Gang!!!

Speaking from experience, once family is on the trip, it becomes much harder to do the 10,000 a day. We had several family along last Oct & Nov and only managed about 7,000 points a day. Boyd was quick to punish me. Freeplay disappeared and even though I don't use the mailers, since I book through a host, free nights dropped to 3 and nothing in food offers. My freeplay on the latest offers is now $25. It used to be $100, then dropped to $75.

One more thing...if you do book, don't use your player's card the morning of the 4th. Any use will count as a gambling day, even just swiping to check your point balance will affect your daily average. Unless of course your 40,000 point goal is just to get to Emerald and you are not worried about mailer offers.

Yes, that's important, and if you are using your reward points for cash back, get it the night before. Electroguy, good on ya for taking care of your mother.

Yep. I figured this trip will be hard as far as racking up points on my play. As a craps player, I end up 3 to 4 hrs. per session at the tables. Usually 3 sessions per day. I won't do that if I go and escort my mom. My mom is getting frail and weak but she is fiercely independent. She doesn't want anyone hanging around her when she plays slots (her superstition that it brings bad luck, lol!) so we always had to supervise her from afar.

I figured I'd play at some acceptable VP machines far away but close enough to watch her in case she gets up and wanders off. One positive note is that once she finds a machine she likes she's in for the duration, come hell or high water, lol!

So like you said Joe, time will be a factor. That's why I was leaning more towards VP play where tracking points is easier. Playing craps is harder to track and harder to focus if I'm only worrying how my mom is doing.

Hitting those multi-play machines is probably the best way to kill two birds with one stone. After I see her safely to bed I'll probably attack the craps table.

I'll be happy just to make memories with my mom. I actually was planning a later trip with the 40k goal in mind to ensure Sapphire for another year but I learned that my mom was going on this trip without my sister. So I'm concerned. Really no biggie if I don't get the 40k points.

Are units that slow at MSS? I typically play on slow speed everywhere because i don't like burning holes in my meager pockets, but i was curious to see how fast i could play in 15 minutes of 35/8/5 Bonus (99.66%) at my local while the speed setting was on "slow". I got 160 hands in (640 per hour, on slow!!)

But of course, i would never recommend playing so fast that you make significant errors.

Since you like DDB electroguy, finding the 9/6 DDB units with STP for quarters would be a pretty good choice for that. I'm not positive all are 9/6 DDB so be careful. And remember STP is optional, you can still set the machine to bet any number of lines at 5 credits per line via the touch screen.

Also not sure how much you've brushed up on strategies. But being familiar with 9/6 JoB and 9/6 DDB strategies would be a good idea. 8/5 Bonus would be great too but it's pretty similar to 9/6 JoB.

One time at MSS a guy near me was playing two VP machines, the second was a backup while waiting on scratch cards.

I play VP pretty slow.

I've been practicing on-line for free with a trainer that lets you hold what you think is optimal then stops you and shows you what you should hold, in addition to a table showing the math as to why. So far I believe I need to practice and study the more difficult hands more.

Thanks for the strategy links. I'll be sure to study them!

Which strategy trainer is it? The other day i found out the strategy trainer DonnyC was using was mathematically incorrect and gave wrong hold suggestions.

That one should be fine as i did a quick test vs. the Wizard's hand analyzer and they matched numbers. That's the one i suggested Donny switch to.

That trainer is good too because it measures errors by how much they cost you in return. i would keep practicing until your error cost is less than 0.5% of perfect. Preferably even lower. Most of the games i play I'm within 0.2-0.3% when i casually check my skill with near perfect for Jacks. I don't practice nearly enough though if i was shooting to be perfect. Maybe an hour a month, usually before a gambling trip. I use frugal video poker myself which is also free.

Sorry I'm still figuring out the VP thing. I'm sure the answer to this question is obvious, but what are the percentages you have in parenthesis? I ask partly because I noticed one is actually above 100%.

    Thanks!
