    35th Bday Trip Report

Cast and Crew: Me, DW, BIL, SIL, FIL and MIL

About: We are in our thirties and In-laws are early sixties

When: April 17-20th out of TX

    Thursday April 20th:

    Flight to Las Vegas:

Get to the airport in LBB about an hour early and have a couple of beers (many, many more to come) ☺. The wife and I decided not to get early boarding on the trip to Las Vegas but did on the way home. BIL, SIL, FIL, and MIL did get the early boarding and we were only 5 people behind them, save $25 (First win of the trip). Have 4 drink coupons and drink three beers on the way to Vegas but flight attendant only took one coupon. The flight arrived a little early, which was nice as well.

One note on Southwest they have a coupon on the back of the drink menu that you can take a picture on your phone and then at any bar in NYNY they will give a free drink. The bartenders are supposed to watch you delete the pic but we had at least three free drinks each.

I had booked Presidential Limo and Michael was waiting on us at baggage claim with champagne and roses. I nice start the vacation. I highly recommend the limo transfer and will do so going forward.

    Hotel:

We were staying at NYNY on a marketing comp that my wife received, three nights comped plus $75 in free play. I didn’t try the $20 sandwich but did mention my Bday and ask if any upgrades were available, but they want $30 per night to upgrade to Madison. (DW says no dice) So we get to room 608 in the New York Tower, it was fine nothing to write home about. Hot water was an issue in the evenings for showers. Probably will not stay in this room again (More on that later). The In-Laws have a host, and were in rooms 2422 and 2424. I did not see their room but they seemed to like them.

    Diner:

We live in Texas with some of the best Mexican food available but the In-laws decide that we should eat at Gonzalez Y Gonzalez. It was pretty good I guess, I had the Carne Asada special for like $12.95. It was good but served on a bed of sweet potato fries, not what I was expecting. DW had Shrimp and Crab Rellano and loved it along with the cilantro rice. I think the tab was $225 for the six of us with buckets of beer.

    Gambling:

I know this is the part that most people will want to read. My bankroll is 5k for DW and I for the trip. We are about to build a house so I toned down the roll for the trip. We use the envelope system and it works pretty good to conserve funds. I started with 1000 for the first night and started playing craps. Bought in for 300 and was playing 52-54 across and 10 pass with max odds. I know with the limited bankroll the risk for ruin is high at this level with limited bankroll. I could not hit anything and promptly lost 600. Tried some slots with the wife but lost and lost. Ended up losing my days bankroll about 1am or 3am Central time. The wife stated with a $500 bankroll for the day and lost $200.

    So day one:

    Red&BlackSmoke – ($1000)
    DW - (200)

    Misc

My dad is staying with my 3 yr old while we are gone and I get a call that our AC computer board is fried and going to cost $700 to fix. What a crappy way to end the first day in Vegas.

    More to come…

    Friday:

    Morning:

We are wide-awake at 5am and decide to hit the town. I mean why sleep in Vegas. I am collecting casino chips from all the casinos I visit and don’t have the Trop so we head over to get one.

We crossed over to the MGM and had to play the Lions Share. There was no line at 530 am on a Friday. I played sixty dollars through the machine and hit very little. Oh well it was still fun. We crossed over to the Trop and played some craps. Bought in for $100 and PSO and then DW threw PSO. I tried one more time and PSO. So (-100).

Then decided we wanted to go down to Mandalay Bay and get a chip. The tram does not open unit 9am so we had to wait till later in the Morning. Went back to NYNY and waited for the rest of the crew to get up. Played a few slots with no real wins. Then all six of us headed for MBay. I got a chip but was slow playing most of the day because I was down gambling wise. Steve Garvey was a store signing autographs and BIL that doesn’t even like baseball drops $450 for a jersey and a ball.

    Lunch:

DW and I have a $50 MC Voucher and walk over to get it loaded at the MLife Desk for Dragon Noodle. My wife would eat Asian food every meal if she could so Dragon Noodle was a good choice. They had a lunch menu that included an entrée, soup, and a spring roll for 12.95. I had the Mongolian Beef with fried rice and Hot and Sour Soup. DW had the Chicken Chow Main with the same two sides. I also a two Tsing Tao Beers while the wife had Ice Tea. Total Bill: $50.68 so just had to pay tip. Thanks MyVegas

    Afternoon:

I had never been the Aria so we took the tram from MC to the hotel. Very nice hotel and a big poker tournament going on. We then headed to the Bellagio to check out the conservatory, the spring display was beautiful and they had some gigantic butterflies. We keep walking and hit up the Casino Royale for a couple of $1 Beers and play a few slots. The craps table was packed and didn’t feel like squeezing in, oh well. We walked over to the mirage to play the silver strike machine, where I put in a $20 and ended up getting 4 silver strikes. None of them where silver though so cashed in three for $10 each and kept one for the chip collection. We then walked on over to the Venetian because DW had never seen the hotel. I was down to about $200 for my daily bankroll when I ended up playing a Playboy Pinball Machine, put a $20 in and cashed out at 100. Moved to the next machine in the bank and did the same thing. I play the last pinball machine in the bank of machines and cashed another hundred. We were at the Venetian for about 30 minutes and won $300. Feet where getting tired and had to go to Zummanity at 730 so grabbed cab back to the NYNY. The driver tried to take us to the freeway; needless to say I was pissed and let him know about it. I understand that the fare was not going to be a lot because the short distance but I always tip well and thought it was ridiculous to go the interstate.

    Happy Hour and Show:

So we ended up getting (2) $25 vouchers to Nine Fine and they let us use them both at the same time and same table. The six of use had a couple of Apps and a bunch of drinks. We used the pics from our phones (see above) for a free round of drinks as well. Good atmosphere and really good beer.
We had four comp tickets to Zummanity and a BOGO to make a total of six tickets on the third row. I did buy a 32oz beer and Margarita, for $40 ☹. Now the show was really good but the best part was when the In-Laws got called onto the stage at the conclusion of the show and had to slow dance. It was a good time and glad we got to do it for so cheap. I think for (6) premium tickets we only paid $119??

    Night:

I really wanted to go downtown but DW was balking at so we ended up staying at NYNY to gamble. I bought in at the craps table for $200 and proceeded to cash out at $975 after a couple of hours of gambling. It would have been more but was down for the trip and not pressing aggressively. Still a great time. Decided to play some slots with the rest of the group and played a few $5 slots. No big hits.

    So up to the minute:

    Red&BlackSmoke – (500)
    DW - (300)
