I agree with this but Ive only been to Vegas once in 2011. I never felt unsafe or worried at all. That being said my brother who has been there several times always says that once the mob left vega it has gone down hill, not sure if he's right but it seems to be a popular opinion.

I'd rather walk the strip or DT anytime of day or night then most major cities downtown areas.

I don't know how much of this is true (and sorry if OT), but a few years back we were talking to this gentleman at the casino bar at Bellagio who seemed to know quite a bit of LV history and trivia. We got to talking about the Mob in particular.

He said that no, the major casinos are no longer Mob controlled, but that the Mob definitely runs a few things in LV these days. He said that strip clubs are definitely controlled by the wise guys, as well as hooker rings operating out of bars.

He also said that almost all of the "Girls Direct To Your Room" business was run by like 2-3 bigshots who definitely had Mob connections.

I don't know how much of this is true, but he did sound convincing.

The woman in the cab was from where I live in Maple Valley, Washington. She and her husband owned a plumbing company and they were active in the local Chamber of Commerce. Definitely gets me thinking about the randomness of violence and how if impacts communities and families.

Yes, it is the saddest part of all. Hard-working person trying to make a living and a tourist trying to enjoy a well-earned vacation.

Innocent victims of pure human rubbish.

The signature defect of modern journalism is that it has shredded the ideal of proportionality. The real sadness of this story is not those who pulled the trigger but those who found themselves caught up in the madness. So instead of hyping those who pulled the trigger the media should be memorializing the innocent victims of this tragic event.

But I guess the dark side of this story gets more ratings; true and sad at the same time.

Shootout on Strip Leaves 3 Dead

Can't beleive I haven't seen a post about this. If I'm covering an old story sorry.

(CBS/AP) LAS VEGAS - Police believe a deadly car-to-car shooting in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip Thursday morning was prompted by an earlier altercation at a hotel.

I also put up a post about how it basically ruined our plans our first night here. It totally shut things down.

Just what I was afraid of...........

The comment of a passerby saying that the person in the back of the cab could be heard screaming whilst the car burst into flames.

Was hoping the impact had already settled that :(

I really hope that they were mistaken with regards to what they think they heard, because otherwise the alternative is just too awful to think about.

I thought that I had read somewhere that the coroner had stated that both the passenger and driver had died from blunt-force trauma caused by the initial accident.

Medical examiner said she died of blunt force trauma, I would assume they found no evidence of smoke inhalation in her lungs? At least I hope this is the case, what a horrible way to go.

Left Vegas yesterday morning. On the way out the room, they showed a picture of the guy on the TV who owned the black vehicle involved in the shooting. The doorman at MGM said they found the vehicle at his apartment like 4 blocks away. The guy was african american with tatoos on his neck. Apparently he's on the run. Hope they find him . . .
