    My Trip Report

Here is Andy's trip report for my amazing (and unprofitable) vacation from July 5 until July 11.

I took Southwest from BWI at 5: 30 PM July 5-flight was uneventful and the crew good. They served drinks three times. I landed at LAS about 7: 40 PT. My two traveling companions Steve and Jerry arrived a short time later. They took different flights from BWI that were a bit cheaper but had lay-overs. We get our bags right away and then get one of the bus companies to take us to the Main Street Station for one night.

We get there after dropping people at the Rio, Harrah's and the LVH. Check in was no problem and the room we had was on the 16th floor looking toward the Plaza and California. great view. The Room was larger than I expected and quite nice. The three of us go to the 777 Brew Pup for a quick bite. I love that place and I recommended it to Steve and Jerry. I had a great burger and they had cheesesteaks. The Hefeweizen was really good. Then we hit the casino. I played craps and lost, played slots and lost. Jerry played blackjack and lost. Steve lost at slots. Not a good start. We all head to bed. We wake up early as still on east coast time and use the LVA coupon for Sunday brunch. The food was good-I ate there once before. They had good prime rib and the usual breakfast items. Plus I never had Hawaiian food before-the pork dish was good. We play a bit more and nothing. We then decide to walk to Fremont and go through the California, the Las Vegas Club, and the Golden Gate. It is about 9 AM or so. Jerry hit a nice $350 jackpot on the new Michael Jackson machine at the Golden Gate. We all earn some freeplay for being new card members. We go back to check out and head to Bally's-our home for the next 5 nights.

We could check in right away-Steve had a 5 day comp and he and Jerry shared a room. He helped me get a fantastic rate for my own room. The room was great-we were on the 7th floor. I had no view but they had a good view of Flamingo Ave. I unpack and we head out. The losses mounted for me. I could hit nothing despite hitting bonuses. We go to the Cromwell and Steve hits the Twilight Zone machine and keeps playing for a while. The Cromwell is nice-with attractive cocktail servers. Jerry tried to get a date with one of them. The drink were flowing. I went to the Flamingo to try to change my luck and I actually won $35 playing craps. I come back to the Cromwell and lose it back at their crap table-it was $5 at 5 PM. a bit later we make it to the Mirage to redeem the buffet coupon from My Vegas game. The food was great. We had amazing service from Alex from Pamplona Spain. I was talking World Cup soccer with him-he was surprised an American knew so much about it. He gave us all a hug as we left. We then hit the casino and the losses mount for me. Jerry goes back to the room to sober up a bit so Steve and I kept playing. I was hitting bonuses but still leaving each machine down. I put $50 into the new Bridesmaid machine and lose it all. The game is fun but did not pay. If you are a fan of the movie you will love it. Steve and I then watch the volcano show, head to Casino Real, get the coupons and lose some more. Their famous crap table is no longer $3 but $5. They had $4 roulette that I played with $1 chips for a bit. I just lost $25. Some drunk idiot got thrown out. We then walk through Harrah's and the Quad and the Cromwell again before heading to bed. We get propositioned by two working girls and I politely decline.

Monday July 7-Jerry had an adventure in the "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas category" so that does not get reported. I go get the rental car at Enterprise at 10:30 AM. Steve was up earlier and called the wrong room. Enterprise's computer system was down, I had a reservation, so it had to be hand written. Macon was very nice and she was quite helpful. The place is down Flamingo at the Westin (old Maxim) and was easy to walk to. I pick up Steve and we head to The Orleans-he was never their before. It had the new 1960's Batman game and he is a huge Batman fan. He hits many bonuses and finishes a bit up. I win a bit their too then but it back. The two of us hit In and Out Burger on Tropicana and have the best burgers in the fast food world. I waited 8 years to have one. We then go pick up Jerry, take him to the In and Out on Sahara (his first time). Then it is off to the Strat so I can take the tower and take pictures. Steve and Jerry stayed in the Casino. I like to take pictures each time and compare from previous trips. My losing continued so we head back to Fremont Street and start out coupon run. Steve and Jerry have a little luck and I lose. We hit the Las Vegas Club, The Golden Nugget, The Golden Gate again, and then Binion's. We then use a coupon for the buffet at the Fremont and the food was pretty good. I was warned it has had issues in the past but was OK. The service was good and the employees there cheerful. I then went to meet up with a high school classmate who now lives in southern CA and her husband. We met at the Lift bar at the Aria. I love the Aria. It is class all around. I have a few drink, we catch up (I did not see her for about 15 years) and it is a great time. I then go back to Bally's to pick up Steve and a friend of his Larry who happened to be in town. We take drive to the Palace Station and Steve wins-I am still losing. It was a bad day gambling for me. I take the two of them back and I head to OG's. That was a terrible experience as I paid cover and drinks and they had just two dancers. I leave quite angry and drive to Little Darlings. The guy is quite polite and says they just have 4 dancers and I should come back another time. Thank you. I then head to Cheetah's and they have dancers and I spend a little time and money. It is now 3 AM and I go to bed.

Tuesday July 8th-We start by going to the Hooters Casino and we all get clobbered. I got some free play for my new card but lose it all. I tried blackjack with an attractive dealer in Hooters outfit and lose. We leave. We go to the Palms to use a coupon for the lunch buffet. Today is Jerry's birthday so we treat him. The food was good with great selection. We then play there and all get hammered. They had the new Batman game too and it really took money from Steve. We then go to the Gold Coast and I still lose and Steve wins a bit back. He sued the free play coupon here. Steve and Jerry go for a rest so I go for a drive. I go to the Boulder Station. Supposedly resorts on Boulder Highway have the best paying slots. I get a new card, get some free play, and I put $100 through the machines and walk out with $100.35-YUP a .35 profit after 45 minutes or so on the machines. I then go to the Bellagio just to walk around and I see the WMS 2012 Clue game-the four machine game. THis has been my favorite game the past few years. I learn it is the last one in town. I won $43!!! I then go back to Bally's and Steve and I head to South Strip. I actually start to win! I hit in NYNY, Excalibur (on the Jurassic Park machine-a $56 win which was to be my best jackpot all week) and I win a bit in the Tropicana. Steve loses some and we finish at the MGM Grand. It is about 3AM and time for bed.

Wed July 9th-I make back loses from Tuesday and part of Monday so I am feeling good. This was our non gambling day to start. We go to the Maryland Parkway In and Out burger for lunch. we then head to the Pinball Hall of Fame. I am in a pinball league in Maryland. My club is the Free State Pinball Association. I was at the place at his old location last trip in 2006. The place was busy! I am so happy to see so many people of all ages interested in pinball. Plus they had classic video games! A great time was had by all. The next stop is the Gold and Silver Pawn shop-Steve really wanted to go there. There was no line because none of the Harrisons were there. I enjoyed it more than I thought. I looked at some Olympic coins and bought a magnate. We all took pictures and they had a cool Indian Motor cycle. The next stop is that big souvenir store next to the Strat. I get some things for my niece and nephew and a Tshirt for me, We then head out to Red Rock Canyon. I have never been here and it is spectacular. We pay the $7 and drive through. We stop and take pictures. It was the wonder of nature and the highlight of the trip for us all. Then we go to Red Rock Station for the dinner buffet (with coupon) and the food is great. I highly recommend it. Plus we played there and all won-supper was free! We head back to Bally's late-we liked this place that much. Jerry turns in and Steve and I go to the Cosmopolitan. It was not built during my last trip. I like the place. I lose though. I get propositioned by the best looking working girl yet but politely decline. We see the sun come up-it is about 5 AM so we turn in.

Thursday July 10-I had planed to sleep a bit longer but my phone rings at about 9: 30 AM with someone asking for Julio. After I get peeled off the ceiling I try to go back to sleep with no luck. I get up about 10:30 and my friends are still asleep. I go get the car at Aria and park back at Bally's. I want to win something to treat my friends to a nice supper our last full day in Las Vegas but it was not to be. I walk through the Linq and have a great milkshake at Sprinkles. The ice cream is amazing, but one milkshake was $9. They were out of malt. How is that possible? I go into the new O'Sheas and was shocked to see their crap table at $5. The new one is smaller than the old one. I then play in the Quad and win $45! I like Queen of the Wild 2. I then walk through the Flamingo and try the Grease Pink Ladies Machine-I lost at Hooters and try it one more time and I win $40 worth. I then walk down to Planet Hollywood and I realized right away I liked the Aladdin better. I was not in here last trip. The vibe was off for me. I can't explain why. I do not even play. I do get a frozen hurricane drink that was $9 for the small. I then take my profit to Paris and I do not know what happened here but the vibe is also not quite right. They had a $5 crap table so I play and I lose all my profit from the two machines. The guys are now ready. I just have energy in Las Vegas. We use a coupon for the Palace Station buffet and the three of us ate for less than $20. I give the food a c. They had roast pork on the carving station and that was good. we then spend the night on Fremont. We parked at the 4 Queens, Steve and Jerry win, I lose. We then enjoy a light show and a band on stage and go to the D. I like this place-I like the attractive female dealers that also GOGO dance. One caught my eye in particular. I lose some more. We then go to a souvenir store. Steve gets a few pens for some co-workers. then we walk to the El Cortez. Now 15 years ago one would not walk to the El Cortez at night. Nice to see we can now. We play a bit there. They no longer have $3 craps with full pay. However, I did play some $1 roulette with .25 chips. I played a while after buying in for $20 and walked away with $9.50. There were fewer colorful characters than I expected. We then go to the Fremont that had a full pay $3 crap table and I buy in for $50 and walk away with $54. We then go back to Bally's. A great day.

Fri July 11-Steve and Jerry have an early flight-we all turn in about 2 AM or so. I get up, take the car back, and check out. My flight is 5 PM. I then go to use a coupon for the Planet Hollywood Buffet for lunch. The food was good and I am glad they kept the middle eastern dished-the coucous with raisins and almonds was good. I then go back to the Quad to try that same Queen of the Wild 2 game and I lose $20. I put a $50 in one behind it and win $1.25. I cash out and leave. I go back to the Bellagio to try clue one last time and I lose $20. Time to get to the airport. What a great week.

My pictures are on photobucket under "triviaandy"-feel free to check them out. I took about 200 of them

Observations-almost everyone was polite and nice everywhere we went. I was actually surprised. I did not have one bad experience.
-I lost more at gambling than expected. I was think I would hit at least one jackpot of $300 or more like very other trip. I had just two winning crap sessions the entire time. I thought all the off strip places would be better. Not this time
-there were a lot of people begging on the walkways around Bally's. Some were left over from the Electric Daisy Carnival. The buskers were everywhere, not just on Fremont.
-the vibe on Fremont is great-I had a lot of fun there and I did not see any one too drunk.
-I can't say enough about Red Rock Canyon-please go there your next trip

    Thanks for reading

    Andy

    Good report!

And I appreciate the writeup. Many on this forum don't write TRs when they lose. More depressing obviously. I hope you have better luck next trip!!

Thanks for the TR, the first one I did was not very good but my next one will have more detail. The comments you made that I quoted was my experience as well and you are dead on about Red Rock Canyon, we went and it was phenomenal.

Very nice trip report. Sorry about losing - it's no fun. My last 2 trips have been OK, but the 3 or 4 before that were lose, lose, lose. Come on, I want to hear about what had to "stay in Vegas". We don't know Jerry - we won't tell :)

There's pinball leagues?!? That sounds pretty cool. I really need to go check out this place one of these trips. We had 2 pinball machines in our basement when I was a kid, I would play those things for hours a day.

Hello-thanks for the kind comments about my pictures.

The ride is on top of the Stratosphere . There are three rides up there. This one is Xscream. No I did not go on it. It would scare me too much. I like amusement parks too and love roller coasters. This one is a bit much though.

The "fetish girls" were on Fremont Street Monday night. I got Jerry to take the pictures of me with them. I wanted to give my mother something to talk about-Haha. I tipped them each $3. However, there were some other "fetish" girls on Thursday night that seemed to interact with people more. I should have waited. I got these pictures just because the fetish thing is not my personality and I thought it would be a good conversation starter with friends and family.

My pinball club's website is FSPAzone.org. I have been a member since 2007. I have played pinball since I was 4. There are pinball clubs all around the US and world for that matter. You may want to google pinball and your town/area and see if something comes up. I play on Wednesdays. My club has three 10 week season per year. I usually play 2 or 3 per year. My club has some amazing players that have world rankings. Plus look at papa.org. This is a pinball organization in the Pittsburgh PA area that sponsors a yearly championship. I have competed there twice.

Sounds like fun, unfortunately my town is to small for anything like that.

Nice report. Enjoyed reading it. I went to red rock canyon a couple of years ago and it was a good time.
